As the offseason moves forward thought it was time to turn over to 2024.
Looks as if Commanders are moving on from Joey Slye as they signed Brandon McManus to a one year deal.

Tyrod to the Jets. Ugh.
Hey man, he's never going to be a Pat Mahomes competing for Super Bowls. He might as well keep making that sweet, sweet NFL money.
Just googled his career earnings. 13 seasons 38 million total I salary and estimate earnings in the 70 million range.
I mean, sure it would have been nice for him to have the starting role longer in some of these spots, but that is a hell of a NFL career.
Meanwhile Kirk Cousins has somehow made over 350 million lifetime. Nuts.
NFL owners have lost trillions simply because they have no idea how to scout college QBs- none for the most part. They have for 2 decades ignored what it takes to be a sucessfull NFL QB far too often- 1. Accuracy, 2. Foot Work, 3. Quick Release, 4. Smart- Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields have none of those. Lets draft them in the top 15. RG3 had none of those. The list goes on. Also there has never been a truly great NFL QB under 6'0- Brees is right at 6'0. But lets draft Bryce Young. They suck at it. Awful. That's why a meh guy like Cousins demands top dollar- because he simply doen't piss down his leg in games. He's not great by any stretch but they can't scout college QBs worth a shit, so here we are.
The biggest reason Cousins has made so much is he bet on himself over and over and delivered on those bets every time. Through the franchise tags with Washington to delivering over and over in Minnesota over all kinds of doubt. He is never going to be considered a superstar barring some Super Bowl runs but he has taken full advantage of opportunities.
A lot of that was Dan Snyder's stupidity but overall, agreed.
I laugh because I remembered when Cousins was taken in the fourth round after RG3 was taken in the first round. The owners wanted RG3, the coach wanted a real QB. We all know which one has passed the test of time and talent. As stated, Cousins has bet on himself again and again. He was also the first QB to get a fully guaranteed contract. It wasn't for the most money by far, but it was guaranteed. He also knows his own value. He also hasn't been greedy wanting a maximum value but a fair market value.
The Bears are going to draft Caleb Williams number 1 overall. Compare him to Brady - the toughest most competitive guy ever. Williams is more like Josh Rosen. Compare him to Mahomes- who was not the #1 overall pick in the draft. Mahomes has a release that rivals Marino and wants to beat his mom in football at every level. Williams wants an ownership stake before playing a down. If I can see it, they should be able to see it. Yeah he can make "all of the throws"- so can Kyle Boller. NFL GMs suck at drafting QBs
I think there are people who know how to scout QBs. The issue is that if you take Penix #1 and it doesn't work out you're fired. If you take Williams #1 and it doesn't work out, well who could have seen that? Everyone had him as number 1. Even if Williams isn't good enough to get on the field and Penix is really a good back up QB but not a franchise QB.
To go against the grain in sports is very tough because the status quo gets you very far even if you're not good.
EDIT:
The other thing to add is that you don't want to draft a 3rd round player in the first round, even if you have them as a HoFer. Because you can get a 1st rounder AND a HoFer. So if you need a QB and your scouts say the best guy is in the 2nd round, management is going to be pissed if you don't use a first round pick on a first round talent QB even if the scouts say differently. So I don't think it's a scouting issue as much as a owner/people issue.
" Everyone had him as number 1"- THIS is what they suck at. why do they have him #1? He can make highlight throws? Who cares. They had Manziel rated high too- under 6 ft, head case, can't sit in the pocket. They are fucking brilliant at scouting QBS I tell ya.
I wonder how that compares to the other Riley QBs
Pretty sure most of the NFL teams are going to rank up there with the best college teams.
Bro, the Kyle Boller shoutout had me rolling π«ΆπΌ
Well, for me, I would definitely want a starting QB that could absolutely crush their mom in football. ;^)
I'm your mom's favorite player
I did not have "Kyle Boller namedrop" on my bingo card today, thank you for this
I'm a longtime Bears fan and definitely agree with you on Williams. He's got all the signs of being a major bust. At least the Bears recognize that Fields isn't the answer.
Will be a huge bust. He's soft. This is a man's league. I can see it a mile away. Bust city.
But is he a Jamarcus Russell size bust.
Nobody is - Russell's in a bust category all by himself.
I don't know, I kind of feel like Ryan Leaf would be in or at least near the same category.
Art Schlichter and Jim Druckenmiller are definitely in the running at QB.
Jim is only considered the 11th biggest bust back several years ago.
He was the 26th pick in the draft, barely a first rounder. There's plenty of quarterbacks picked earlier than that who had just as bad a career as Druckenmiller.
What San Francisco did to Jim was criminal. They tried to turn him into Steve Young and forced him to lose so much weight
No- for only 1 reason - with the guaranteed money, 365 day NFL media coverage, etc. He will get more chances than Russell got. So he may get some run as a back up before he is out of the league, simply because times have changed.
Russell had other issues that kept him from being picked up by other teams.
Jets want a better backup if Rodgers goes down again.
Yea but could you imagine being in that QB room listening to conspiracies and lifestyle advice from him?
All important things considered, you could argue Aaron Rogers is one of the most overrated players of all time. Has lost multiple playoff games at home as the supposed best QB in the league. Those two facts never mesh.
Scoring 10 points at home in 2022 was egregious
Did he make it to kickoff? I thought it happened on the tunnel run-out.
Was going to post the YouTube clip of the sack in the Bills game but apparently the NFL has blocked all their clips from being imbedded.
He stood up fine after the sack but then ten seconds later sits back down...season over
Sept. 11: Rodgers remains on the ground after being sacked by Leonard Floyd during New York's fourth offensive snap of the season. Rodgers was carted off the field and replaced by Zach Wilson, who helped the Jets defeat the Bills in overtime.
Nah, he got 5 snaps in last season.
FTFY.
"You done messed up A-A-ron!"
Yeah Kennedy making his independent run a joke before it starts. Jesse Ventura is another VP candidate he is considering.
I know CGs say we're supposed to avoid politics, but sometimes you just can't let something go unresponded to on the internet...

Bought this a few weeks back. Comfy hoodie. Definitely a ticket I can get behind!
I can get behind this duo
Would have preferred Brisket chose Mac n Cheese as a running mate but I'll accept this combo too
Tyler Biadasz moving from Dallas to Washington should allow Brock Hoffman to compete for the starting job at Center. He filled in nicely for Biadasz last hear when he was hurt.
Brock on the 53 man roster. Appears hes going to back up the rookie Beebe.
Fuller to South Florida!
Seeing Tim Settle signing with Texans.
Finally getting a Hokie Player here in Duval. Joey Slye coming to town!
Looks like Logan Thomas ****re-signed**** with 49ers for a one year deal after being cut earlier in preseason. Guess they decided he was better than the other guys that got a chance in preseason.
Resigned
An adjective that means to feel or show acceptance that something unpleasant or unwanted will happen or cannot be changed. For example, "She was resigned to a long visit with his mother". "Resigned" can also mean to quit or retire from a position. For example, "An employee resigned".
Re-signed
A transitive verb that means to sign again, especially to rehire someone, such as an athlete, by means of a signed contract. It can also mean to renew or extend a contract. For example, "An employee re-signed".
I'm resigned to think you figured it out either way
I did a double-take
Yeah I had the raised eyebrow but if anything blame the original twitter report, maybe they needed the extra character?
Hopefully this was enough for the Titans to keep Caleb Farley on the roster after missing much of the preseason.
Terrell Edmunds was cut by Jacksonville this morning.
Terrell frantically on the phone trying not to play for 125K non guaranteed.
Terrell was always hampered by unrealistic expectations after being the reach of the draft taken in the first round.
Nah the reach of that draft and many drafts was Josh Rosen- and it's not close. He sucked and his college coach said he wasn't tough and didn't like football. And some team drafted him before the 350th pick still for some reason. Sucked. Softer than charmin. Tyrell Edmunds is legit Ronny Lott by comparison to that bum.
Remember EJ Manuel going in the first round? That was batshit insane
Remember when Christian Ponder was a first round pick? That was even worse!
Remember when we beat an FSU team that both were on the roster for in the 2010 ACC championship in Charlotte? Man that was fun.
I was there. It was both
Get him on the PS! I NEED ONE DOWN HERE
Farley released βΉοΈ
https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1828464681167573040?t=f3n4V7mvjzD8h-bM...
Figured that was gonna happen with the DB's they now have. Maybe he gets another shot but I don't think he's played a full game since 2019.
Could not stay healthy, and that is part of the deal in the NFL. You can't make the club in the tub....
Joey wins the job in New England.
Let Joey try to put Ryland through the uprights from 67 yds out. Seems like the normal decision when Coach doesn't know what to do.
Hendon Hooker is QB2 in Detroit. Good for him and all of the shit that he has had to go through.
Good. Hopefully James Mitchell gets more PT and they can ball out with 2nd team reps.
He (Mitchell) actually got released/waived based on the list I saw. I'm hoping they at least bring him back to the practice squad.
As the resident Lion fan I can confirm he is on the practice squad.
Chamarri Conner makes two huge plays in 4th quarter to help Chiefs win. Scoop and score fumble recovery and then a sack to force a Cincinnati punt with less than three minutes to play. KC won on a field goal as time expired.
It's really cool to see him thriving in the league.
Herbert scored a TD last night for Bears but really don't understand what they are doing with him. So far through two games, he has FOUR total carries. In the prior three seasons, he was averaging about ten carries a game. Looks like they have made D'Andre Swift their "featured" back. He got 18 yards on 14 carries last night π₯΄ and has 48 yards on 24 carries through two games.
Sooner or later they are going to realize their secondary back should be the primary.
It is the modern day Bears, so they may not figure it out.
Probably 6-8 weeks after they trade him.
Conner came up big again for Chiefs. Led them in tackles and had an interception that set up a FG.
Bears O line continues to be putrid. As a team they averaged 2.3 ypc on 23 attempts. Herbert doubled his season carry total with 4 yesterday but only got 9 yards.
Blackshear had 58 kick/Punt return yards for Carolina.
Chuck Clark had 7 tackles, a sack and a Fumble recovery for the Jets on Thursday.
Tim Settle had two sacks for the Texans.
Did the 49ers cut Logan Thomas again? Still see profiles with him on the team but the sites that show Hokies in NFL don't list him and several of those sites show Practice Squad/IR/PUP list guys.
Tremaine Edmunds had a pick for the bears
No Bueno for Herbert based on this from his OC. Bears view him as a short yardage back and as the article points out that's not his game.
https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/chicago-bears/oc-shane-waldron-comments-kha...
Outright speculation by this writer on Herbert being on the trade block. Probably best thing for him and the Bears, especially if he goes to the Chiefs. No show in title is misleading as nothing seems to indicate that's the case here.
https://bvmsports.com/2024/10/01/khalil-herberts-no-show-boosts-trade-ta...
I think the "no show" was in reference to the fact he got zero touches in their last game. Poorly worded but I think that is what they meant
Interesting (in a not-good way) blurb about Nick Sorensen from the Athletic.
Maybe he'll be available...
Joey Slye set the New England franchise record with a 63 yd FG today! Always had a hell of a leg.
The 50 yard field goal is the new 30 yard field goal. You have to wonder when they will decide to narrow the goal posts. Feels like it will be coming at some point with all of these long field goals being made on a regular basis.
Yep- more noticable than ever. NFL dudes kick 60 yarders like nothing now. Remember there is different "air" in the balls used for kicking in the NFL. Maybe they will just go bac to regular air?
I propose: No FGs allowed under 40 yards. That leaves you scrambling to get a 1st Down, or giving the ball back on the 30 like a kick off basically does.
I'd rather see special teams scheme more to block some of these field goals.
I can literally see QBs seeing that none of their WRs are open and just backpedaling to the 40 yard line and taking a knee now lol
Christian Darrisaw went down with a knee injury in the first half of Vikings - Rams. Hopefully he is ok.
How about the blatant missed facemask call towards the end of that game that gave the Rams a safety to close out a win?
https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401671817 via @ESPN App http://espn.com/app
They must have come from a chiefs game.
That was a egregious no call. Vikings should have had the ball on the 20 with a first down. I don't care that he came down in the end zone, he was pulled down by his face mask.
The safety also pushed the game "over"- which fucking sucks
Unfortunately Darrisaw going to miss the rest of the season with ACL and MCL injuries
Sucks.
Damn that sucks. Should be enough time to recover and make it back by week 1 next year.
3rd and 11. 2 min left in the game. BC has the ball in workable field position, down by 4.
TD or lose here.
khalil herbert traded to the bengals after zack moss's neck injury
The Bears offense sucks ass. Including the soft ass QB. Trading their best offensive player is a bold strategy, cotton.
About the worst destination he could have hoped for. There were three legit playoff teams asking about him and they banished him to the Bungles
And his first carry was a fumble...Hasn't seen the field since
That sucks.
Yea and for a 7th round pick, that reads like quick cut.
? They added him at the trade deadline and he's a free agent in the offseason
To be fair to Herbert, the Bungles fumbled four times last night. Their starting running back actually lost his fumble. Herbert recovered his own miscue.
Bungles managed a whopping 49 yards rushing. Pretty much why I thought Herbert going there was unfortunate. Their lead back, Chase Brown has 521 yards rushing in TEN games. 52 average is peanuts.
They show Herbert fumble in box score but not a rushing attempt for 0 yards since he recovered at the line of scrimmage.
Welp and the news got worse for Herbert as the Bungles signed former Giants running back Gary Brightwell this week to be in the mix.
Can't put the ball on the ground in that league. Running backs are like kickers- find a new one.
Their primary back has had six fumbles but stats only show two because the other four went out of bounds. He has been working with Burrows for two years. If you watched the Herbert fumble you will see it was an RPO with Burrows and it looks as if Burrows tries to pull it as the ball pops out in front and Herbert jumped on it as soon as it happened. He had three practices with Burrows before the game.
The guy that led to all this with Herbert got fired today though. Bears OC Shane Waldron was let go as their offense continues to be a shambles.
So Waldron available to replace Bowen? /s
Vikes signed John Parker Romo after putting will reichard on IR
And he only went out and accounted for all points scored in their 12-7 win over Jacksonville
Sitting in the stands filled with purple listening to Skol while somehow getting 4 PICKS!
He apparently just goes by Parker Romo now. I thought the announcers and graphics department had it wrong the whole game but then more and more people kept calling him that. It was disorienting lol
I think they're just saying "Parker Romo" as last name. He's on their roster as John Parker Romo
I thought that too but I definitely heard some people calling him just Parker. It's so confusing because I see him as John Parker Romo in other places.
Kendall Fuller left the fins game with a concussion and looks like he's going to miss this week's game against LV
Chamarri Connor with a key INT vs Buffalo.
Caleb Farley with a permanent move from the Caroline practice squad to the 53-man roster
I really hope he finds some traction and can stay healthy
If there's a synonym for "snakebit", it's Caleb Farley. Feels like his career always gets waylaid when it should be taking off.
I didn't realize he was still in the league. Hopefully it goes well this time.
Wyatt Teller and the Browns win SnowBowl 2024 against the Steelers on Teller's birthday
A defender on the ground is always good. But, that's not nearly as impressive as the twitter poster seems to think it is. Watt was already engaged and Teller pushed him sideways.
Hey, we need all the wins we can get
Brock Hoffman starting for the injured Zach Martin at guard for the Cowboys.
Hoffman just did his best Lionel Messi flop in this game but got offsetting personal foul call
I'm going to push back on this. Yes soccer players sometimes go down too easily. Yes, it's super annoying. But Messi, kind of famously, actually, is one of the few players who just plays thru the contact better than anyone. There are countless instances he probably should have gone down but didn't. Messi isn't the diving prima dona you're suggesting here.
So Hoffman will be the starting right guard for the Cowboys the rest of the season. Martin to IR with surgery on his ankle, and may retire after the season. Hoffman has been good in his 4 starts split between last year and this year. In 205 pass blocking snaps over those starts, Hoffman has allowed no sacks and just 13 pressures. He's been displaying some real nastiness too.
Gasp, Hoffman with nastiness. Never...
John Parker Romo with the winning FG vs the Bears.
Hoffman starting again for the injured Zack Martin. First play of the game giving the opposing DT the business and setting a tone early. He played really well last week allowing only 1 pressure I think and no sacks.
Joey Slye got the chance to win the game for NE yesterday after the Colts went up by 1, but his 68-yarder was just a few feet short. Still a great try though!
Would 68 have been the record?
Per Wikipedia, the longest FG in the NFL was Justin Tucker's 66-yarder against the Lions on 26 Sep 2021.
So, yes.
Herbert got A run.
The Bungles handed him the ball once and he broke off a 14 yard run then never let him touch it again.
Chase Brown had a 40 yard run but on his 11 other carries he averaged 2.7 yards a pop with two eight yards runs included. Most plays he hit the LOS and fell forward.
Will just leave this here...
Herbert had a nice 13 yd run in OT to help the Bengals win yesterday against Denver.
Yet continues to sit behind Chase Brown who averaged 3.4 ypc. 20 carries for 67 yards.
Getting all the reps tonight though
Apparently Chase Brown hurt himself last week trying to go down in play at the end of the game to run clock. About the most Bungles thing ever.
The Bungles O Line looks like another one I watched last night.
The Jets just put Tyrod in the game down 40-0 to the Bills. Comeback time, baby!
Six for eight and a TD....Aaron who?
And a 2 point conversion
Now 12 for 14 and two TDs
They'll probably trade him for some other has-been.
Or puncture his lung or something
Every few weeks I get a jump scare seeing Aaron Morehead on the Eagles sideline. I always did like him here, glad he's seeing success in his career elsewhere.
Choppin wood
