Ah yes- I had plans in Richmond that evening , so I saw the beginning of the game before the deluge, waited on the concourse til 3pm and they still hadn't decided whether they would restart the game, and I walked back to lot 18 barefoot in pouring rain. Also while driving home Waze routed me off 460 and down the back mountain roads to Ironto exit, 8 miles or so off 460 , there was a "river" about ten to fifteen feet wide flowing across the road and the car in front of me turned back; I debated going back but forged (or rather fjorded) through it(foolish I know but I punched the gas and made it).

when my oldest sibling went to tech, exit 128 was a shortcut since 460 business was the only way to get from 81 to Blacksburg. My mom found the route on a paper map (yes those existed back then) and used it religiously to move us in and out each year over the next decade. When I moved to back blacksburg in the 2010s, she would still get off there just out of habit even though the bypass made it obsolete unless you had a fun car and just wanted to experience the drive.

My company directed us to take that route when heading north until the bypass was constructed. It cut the miles off and traffic to a minimum. I still take it now and then. Living off Mt. Tabor that route to Harding is still faster than the bypass to the interstate.

I'll grant that most of my Church Hill experience is from 2013 and before, and close to the Leigh Street bridge. But someone being thankful for having moved there is mind blowing for me.

Lived in Richmond (well the western Henrico suburbs) for 51 years now. Can't blame you for being glad to have moved from "near the Robert" before the riots.
The Church Hill area covers a wide gamut. Some areas have 'gentrified" somewhat; others are definitely VERY sketchy. (anywhere near the housing projects coms to mind). My friends rent a house just outside the Whitcomb Court project(financial issues prevent them from moving yet); I and one of those friends were carjacked at gunpoint by three guys last year while going from the car to her front door(just outside the fence around her front yard - NOT an experience I'll ever forget!(well actually no conscious memory of it but there is Ring doorbell video of the main part of it)

Green Hatch Chili season in NM is going to be in August and September by the way, and during those months even here in TX everywhere will have specials with Green Hatch Chili dishes.

I was at all three of your named games. In fact, my parents were in the stands for the 4th and Logan game too. They were UC Santa Barbara and UNM grads so they got a real treat attending games at Tech.
On the flipside I walked out of the Nebraska game after they took the lead... I was a terrible fan. I've since become better, I swear.
Perfect followup given my above: biggest Hokie regret?

I went to every football and basketball game (and went to the Metro Conference basketball tournament in Memphis one year). Only a few baseball games from "the hill" when the baseball field was behind the tennis courts).
One or two WBB games- back when you could walk up and sit courtside and anyone on the court-refs,players,etc.- could hear everything you said, lol.

I didn't always take that route but when I did, weeee!
Took it once on a REALLY rainy weekend to a game a few years back; rounded a corner to find water covering 2/3 of the road! Scary as hell.
I like taking Blacksburg Rd/Catawba Rd. on my motorcycle when heading into town.
Done that one too- in my Charger or my friend's Jag!
That's my favorite road to drive. Always take it when I have the chance.
