If the fact that I made a VT power hour, or that I play skype beer pong (https://yfrog.com/a/img875/3008/ppcqb.jpg) doesn't reveal that I take my drinking seriously then..maybe this thread will.
I am curious as to what people's flavor of choice is on gameday. I am actually rather superstitious. For instance, I HAVE to take a shot of bourbon when the ball is kicked off to start the game, and I usually always drink Yuengling. I plan to stray away from my beer choice and go with a nice Oktoberfest for this upcoming Pitt game.
What about you guys? Do you stick to a particular beverage or have any weird superstitions?
Also, anyone want to recommend a good bourbon? I've gone through a bottle of Rare Breed as well as Bulleit Frontier. Ready to try something new!

Wild Turkey
It's pretty much tradition where I tailgate (when I can get to games) that you take a shot of Wild Turkey 101 straight from the bottle. And when watching the game at a bar with my regular game-watching group, we do shots of American Honey whenever VT scores a touchdown. Our new thing for this season is to drink whenever the TV broadcast mentions a) Logan's height and/or weight, or b) Cody Journell's criminal record.
Noon games start out with
coffee and bourbon. A related drink that is not really fitting for football, but is nonetheless delicious, is espresso and baileys on ice, add creme de menthe and whiskey to taste.
Otherwise it's whatever beer I can get my hand on at the moment, with a preference towards IPAs and other hoppy brews.
Hokiefuel
I have coined (see: stolen) the term "Hokiefuel" for Wild Turkey around my neck of the woods. My gameday consists of a bottle of Hokiefuel in the freezer and at least 1 keg in the Kegerator. Currently in the Kegerator is the default Bud Light and a Sweetwater Blue 1/4 keg backup.
[If you haven't had Sweetwater Blue, it's awesome and a perfect breakfast beer on account of the fact that burps caused by consumption taste like blueberry muffins...and excellence. Hence why it'll be hooked up for this Saturday's early game.]
A typical gameday consists of a shot of Hokiefuel at kickoff, followed by keg beer for the duration, coupled with a few more shots sprinkled in due to good/bad performance by the Hokies.
love the idea of sweeter tasting fruity beers for the AM. Would go great with my morning gameday shower beer.
If the game takes a turn for the worst, I usually switch to tequilla. My wife knows to leave me alone, haha.
Bourbon must be consumed
Regardless if it's 90 degrees or 20 degrees at the tailgate, or if I'm at home, I *will* have a bourbon & coke at some point before the game. I'm usually pounding bourbon & cokes pre-game, but I'll do mostly beer on occasion.
At our tailgates, prior to shutting down and walking to the stadium, everyone gets together, participates in Old Hokie, and does a shot of either tequila or bourbon.
here is what I ended up with
1. who knew they made oktoberfest yuengling?
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBaYVo89mmY
Woodford is
the tits. I would also recommend trying Knob Creek and for a high end, Blanton's is some of the best bourbon I've ever had.
everyone I know has talked up the woodford so I can't wait to pour it over ice.
I've seen knob creek and I'll keep and eye open for Blanton's.
in case anyone is wondering what's up with the woodchuck, that will either be for MRSDOZER or my shower
beercider.I am not allowed to drink Captain
I dropped a bottle while we were up 7-6 against Alabama and I am now forbidden to drink any Captain on gameday.
i usually go for bourbon and ginger ale and then switch back and forth with any cheap beer when i need a change of taste. i can't drink wild turkey anymore because i drank half a bottle for the michigan game and i'm superstitious. so i'm drinking bulleit this season.
i bought some firefly sweet tea bourbon (yes, bourbon) because i found it on liquidation sale. it's actually really tasty to drink straight up, but i feel like it's not fierce enough for me to drink on gameday.
and i'm definitely getting some of that yuingling oktoberfest for this pitt game. that's not even a question.
In college, Skip n Go's. Now,
In college, Skip n Go's.
Now, pregaming with Yuengling and bourbon and cokes (maybe bourbon and gingers) during the game.
Drank the Yuengling Oktoberfest for the GT game....will definitely get some more for the Pitt game.
Try Elijah Craig
I was pleasantly surprised with it.
Whatever beer I grab
for the tailgate. Always some bourbon for the game.
