I'll throw The Home Place in as a place I really miss.
And Backstreet's Pizza from the late 80s and early 90s. Was great then. I know lots of people on here didn't like the place as I assume it went downhill. But was a great spot when I was a student and a lab tech for a year.

Guessing you poured me somewhere in the triple digits number of beers. Think it was 50Β’ Bush? On the way from Randolph to Otey and Washington, perfect for a liquid lunch after banging out 8,9 and 10 o'clock classes Monday and Wednesday morning.

Idk what year that was but when i was at tech 2011-2016 (spanning the end days of backstreets and the opening of mellow mushroom), it was just mediocre at best. Distinctly got the sense they were coasting on reputation. Pizza was bad even by swva standards

This would be amazing but I feel like downtown is a shell of itself without Boudreaux's. And Poor Billy's is called the Psychotic Chicken or some dumb shit like that. Also, The Underground. While we are at it, I'll mention to the owner of the Milk Parlor to change the name back to Waterstreet Gallery.

I was a line cook at Boudreaux's from '97-'99. The Ames brothers were awesome owners plus Purple Haze on tap as a post shift beer sealed the deal. Fun times.

That was my same time period. Arnold's/Mike's working grill in afternoon and bouncing/bartender in the evenings. Worked some at TOTS and The Library too.

Even better, the kids that were using Mommy and Daddy's credit cards, it showed up on the bill as Library charges. Kids would tell their parents it was for print copies or buying a couple books.

Itrepeter2000 might know this story better since I think he was around when this happened. Our fraternity was coed and had a lore about one of the female brothers was working a SoEx, so a bunch of the guys filled up a van and drove to SoEx one weekend and there 9 brothers were front row. The performer wouldn't go one and was made she made no money that night. I only heard the story from one of the guys who supposedly went.

My first ever trip there was probably late 90's. The special that night was crawfish. A tray, not a plate, of gloriousness showed up at my table. I was one happy early teen.

I agree the Ames brothers are good people. I first worked at Cabo as a line cook then Boudreaux's for a couple of years and eventually Big Al's before graduation. Its tough on Restaurants in Blacksburg because they depend so much on school being in session. The Cabo in Richmond is great while the Boudreaux's in Charlotte is not very good.

I initially read that as "the Boudreaux's in Charlottesville is not very good." Was going to say "goes with the rest of the town". I also really miss Boudreaux's.

Ton80 was great for black n tan on tap plus the darts. We would get lost in there on Monday nights for football playing the "online" game for each play.

Ton80 was the official bar of the Civil Engineering department at Tech. After office hours, you could find a professor or TA there at least half the time.

Underground is now Square 5 Public House and it retains a lot of the old feel. It's my kids favorite place in Blacksburg because the cheese fries are top notch.

Was Buddy's the place across from the 7-11 where The Kind used to play on Wednesdays before they moved to Macado's on Thursdays? Of group of use were trying to remember the name of that place at tailgate last year but could not.

Buddy's was above what was then Mish Mish, across from Pedros on the upper parking lot level, and caddy corner to the entrance to Ton80. Both owned by the same guy (buddy) I believe that prior to being buddy's, the place was called Daddy's Money (and maybe Mr. Fooz before that?)

I used to eat at Substation II with my buddies all the time - at least a couple times a week - we'd take a break from studying and walk over from Randolph (RIP) ASME lounge - ahh..the good 'ol days

We're so back
We just need Big Al's back, Mike's back, and hard nosed bad ass football that wins games.
Pedro's as well.

Steve's Hot Dogs! Great location to catch everyone leaving TOTS.
My old place of employment 89-91

Yeah. I'm sure I did. I think we talked about this before. Think we partook of some things in the back room too.
That rings a bell - you are correct, we discuss before. Been a bit tho.
I remember drinking a beer [/wink] in the back room as well.
Backstreets was where my now wife and I had our first date! I don't get the hate, the Italian buffet was so clutch.

Oh, fuck yeah!
Krazy May's will always hold a special place in my heart
.
No skinny legs with substation II back!
Now we just need Sycamore Deli back
And Bogen's, miss those waffle fries
May or may not have overindulged on those shooters for Friday happy hours.....
Me too but back in the 80s when you were not restricted on happy hour rules and they had 2 for 1 kamikazes from 11pm to 1 am Fridays and Saturdays.
Gumby's damnit!
Pre 2004 Gumby's. I don't know what they did, but it changed.
Was that around the time they got rid of the big damn pizza and the pokey sticks?
Pokey sticks stayed on. But the pizza went downhill.
What happened is they lost the franchise rights and kind of went rogue for a few years until corporate caught on and shut them down.
That, and because it was a very well known drug dealer
The extra spicy pizza...bartenders I worked with had them on speed dial for after work.
HOW BOUT THEM HOAGIES?!?
Let's Go!
HOAGIES!

Boudreaux's rooftop was killer. And a po'boy meal was cheap.

Holy shit. I haven't thought about the Library in 30 years.
Remember seeing Jimmy's Chicken Shack there.
lol my mom would see my aim away messages and think I was studying
Even better, the kids that were using Mommy and Daddy's credit cards, it showed up on the bill as Library charges. Kids would tell their parents it was for print copies or buying a couple books.
It took me forever to convince my parents southern exposures was a camera shop and I just had a new hobby
Being from Southern WV (Beckley), I used to sweat bullets every time we went to soex, thinking I would run into a cousin working the pole.

Ridiculous Chicken. Same owners for the Ocean Samurai in first and Main and over in the Northgate shopping center in Cburg.
What replaced Boudreaux's? I always enjoyed that spot.
Still empty to my knowledge.
RIP Underground and Mikes, as well as Buddy's and Ton80. I still have a London Underground mug somewhere.

I will pass that on to my
daughtereldest little egbert.Last time I was in town the wife and I hung out there and had a few beers. One of the few places that still feels the same as it did in the 2000s.

If I remember correctly, early 1980's, Mr. Foos was on Main Street close to where Sharkeys is today.
You are correct!
Hadn't heard about that. That's depressing.
Books, Strings, and Things was on Draper Rd. I think Mish Mish may have been in that area.
BST was a fave of mine. Sad to see that one go, too.
