Prefer no. Let's leave the kids out of it.
If we can find crying adults then hell to the yeah
It's never too early to lead away from the dark side!
As much as he truly deserves it...
Hoos should be fully developed before we ridicule them.
I took a pic of him but couldn't bring myself to imgur him
To be fair, he is probably already at full mental development for a Hoo
Ain't that the truth
LETS GO HOKIES!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!

LOLUVA KID FAN CRYING!!!!

BEN HAMMOND FAM
Fam-mond!
I don't know what Hammond's NIL is but we should double it!
And if we have any money leftover we should get one of those free throw shooting arcade games for the rest of the team.
What a way to end 2025 FAM!!!!
HAPPY FUCKING FAMALAMADINGDONG NEW YEAR FAM!
Reading La Sabre is going to be fun tonight
They are all going to claim homecooking for the free throw differential but let's be real...it should have been worse.
In all seriousness, those refs should be demoted to DII with their ineptitude. On both sides of the ball they were terrible and completely inconsistent in how they officiated the game.
Y'know, the reason I don't read the game threads is because of the griping about officials. It is constant and it is annoying to me, regardless of how right the poster may be on one play or another. I am getting to believe that even if the refs called every foul according to our desires we'd still be bitching about them for something.
Yeah, unpopular view and I'll take the downvotes, but the refs didn't hurt us last night, quite the opposite, and I would imagine that the 'hoos will be crying about it, but we shouldn't be.
I am with you on this. I stopped participating in the basketball game threads a couple of years ago because it felt like every other comment was a complaint about the officiating.
I took a ride over to the Sabre and read a bit of their take on the officiating. It's worth the time to see their reactions, but it's not much different than our game threads when it comes to the officials.
One big gripe that really twisted their knickers was the goaltending call that was upheld after much consultation. Were I them, I'd feel the same way about that particular call, though I'm glad the refs seemed to get it wrong.
The foul they called when Schutt's 3 ended up going over the backboard and gave Gurdak 2 free throws was also extremely questionable and bailed us out at a key time
They called the guy for wrapping his arm around Gurdak's waist preventing him from going to the basket. He basically hugged Gurdak from behind.
On review it didnt appear to be goaltending but if they hadn't called it, Hammond had the ball and a lane to the basket with plenty of time to score.
I don't know how you can go over there. I can barely stand the UI on TechSideline. Using that on The Sabre would be a new level of hell.
Oh, the 'hoo tears and whining is worth a quick look sometimes, and I love the salty taste. I seldom open the posts, they don't say much beyond the first sentence anyway. Love the way they call Cassell "the Barn" thinking we give a shit what they call anything VT.
Not gonna lie,
I kinda like 'the barn':
A lot of honest hard work happens in barns. It fits that some pretentious uva folks would consider it an insult.
Same
But also being from Tobacco Road, when I hear someone refer to a basketball arena as a barn it's usually done out of respect for being an old, historic loud as hell gym that reminds you of the roots of the sport instead of the corporate hellscape it's become.
I agree with both of you. We can win a game by 10-20 points and, if you read the thread, you'd think we lost by 20. It's brutal...
Isn't complaining about the refs synonymous with rooting for your team? It's part of a sportsfan's DNA is it not?
Not to me. Unless it's a horribly reffed game with egregious bad calls then I'm not whining about every call or no call, I'm rooting for my team to make plays.
I agree with this as well. I'll get upset about an egregious call or two, but generally, the breaks go both ways and it comes down to who can make plays.
I totally get it. In my youth, I was loud and obnoxious and not on any message boards, but at the games. Lenny Wirtz and I were on a first name basis, and my wife was more than once cringing as I griped about a call. I still feel the same passion when watching a game on TV now, many decades after those days, but after so many games and so many refs and so many calls and so many gripes and whines and bitching rants...my wife says I grew up, the game is what it is, refs are always going to be doing their best and missing calls regardless.
Lenny Wirtz. That is a blast from the past.
It's hell gettin' old. But I am a fan who's gone from Coffee and Dooley and Charlie Moir and whomever to now Franklin and CMY, and from Beamer's 2-8-1 season to our first Sugar Bowl and Vick and the natty game. I've pored through newspapers and the fine print of football scores just to try to find VT's score, way before the internet and long before we were on TV every week, and listened to scores of radio broadcasts back when we just were almost never on TV, football or basketball. Luckily, I was fortunate to live in the area as the transitions were being made to modern coverage, but I must admit that I miss going to the basketball games even more than going to the football games now I'm in my dotage.
Would like to know more about that.
Naw, I was being hyperbolic there. Let's just say that he definitely knew I was there and he and I locked eyes more than once when I was close enough in the stands. I was never aggressive, but I was loud and made it personal calling his name when he missed an easy call or blew a tough one. I was, needless to say, a real jerk sometimes during the game, but if we'd have actually found ourselves face to face, I would have been a perfect gentleman, regardless of how I felt about his game. Now, I wouldn't have bought him a beer or anything, but Bill Brill did call me up and invited me to have a brew or two and lunch on him after I wrote a pithy letter to the Roanoke Times so maybe I could have bought Lenny a beer after all.
There were times in the mid 80s when my friends and I would take NYE style noisemakers, remove the part that unrolled, and use them like duck calls at the games. Pick one of the opponent's non-point guards and blow them continuously every time that player touched the ball. Rattled a good many of them! (Particularly effective the games we got front row mid court seats which happened frequently as we went to stand in line outside Cassell for tickets at 4am on pickup days(usually a week-ish before gameday was pickup day which was nice cause you knew prior to gameday if you had to watch on TV or would be there in person). For Memphis State and Louisville, we were outside for 24-36 hours ahead of time. Ah the days of youth! There was no cost and no lottery system-just a long line on pickup days and the students got 4500 of the 10000 seats-pretty much the entire east side(side towards tennis courts)
In my day, few, if any games were even on TV. You either went to the game or listened to it on the radio. In my student days, I did go to games as a Highty Tighty for a couple of years, but never otherwise. Tickets back then were not hard to come by, but the product wasn't as attractive as other pursuits, so my crowd didn't go. Same for football, really. I didn't get seriously into the Hokie sports until I graduated and left the area 50 years ago.
Yeah-for football we averaged 35-40k for most games and sellouts for UVQA and WVU games. For basketball , we averaged 6500-8000 for most games (occasionally more) and sellouts for Memphis State and Louisville. As you noted we were much more 'middling' at both then with occasional great years. But I still never missed home games!
When I moved back to Giles in '86, I went to the home football games and many of the basketball games. I don't remember much about the attendance when I first got back in basketball, but for good games, the Cassell did definitely rock. Football, I went to all the home games except for some we missed while camping out west every other fall. At first, we would have 25-30 K for most home games, except as you mentioned WVU and uva, or sometimes more for a big name, of which there were but a few. When Frank came, and finally we started to win, we did better from one year to the next, it seemed. I found myself needing to buy season tickets, and it was all climbing the heights from there untill... Oh well, I live too far away to want to go to the games anymore. Now to the basketball game I'm recording in order to skip the commercials. Go Hokies!

This isn't the best team in the ACC but I think they've got the biggest stones by a wide margin. Zero quit in them.

Updated with Hammond Highlight reel
Let's Hope....
Hammond for ACC Player of the Week
30 pts. 16 for 18 from FT. 2 block, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
Gurdak for ACC Freshman of the Week
17 points and 19 rebounds and only 1 personal foul.
Should've been 3 blocks if not for that criminal ACC officiating.
FAM!!!
Ben Hammond-time... "Can't touch this!"
Another FAM...
Duke fans bitching on Twitter about ESPN and ACCN not preempting our game for theirs.
Both our game and their game should've been on ESPN not ACCN
One of the families in our big new years group are Duke fans, and the ones that are here were like yeah keep this overtime game on this is better than first half of the Duke game
Duke fans were better off not seeing their team in that first half anyway. They were losing 43-39 at halftime and shot 41% from the floor for the game. I think GT shot 71% from 3 in the first half.
I rage turned off the game after the buzzer beater because I thought we were only up by one after the Hammond miss. Checked the box score later after my frustration dissipated a bit and thought ESPN screwed up the score.... lol
So sayith the Bitches...
So sayith the Hoes!
the ladyboys over at le saber are blaming the refs lol
Took an extra bit but we whipped that ass FAM
So the commentator really did say "gritty ass win"? I thought that's what he said, but wasn't sure. Happy New Year Y'all!
Yes, that and saying the UVA point guard was "too hot for a hottub" when he banked in the 3 pointer
One of the best skits in SNL history......rub-a-dub in the hot tub.....gonna get in it......OWWWWW!!!
FAM! Happy freaking New Year!
I Love Mike Young.
When asked about his team's ability to compete against high caliber teams: "We're Virginia Tech. We are Virginia Tech. That's what we do. Great admiration for them. But damn it, I've got a good basketball team too, all right. And I'm not gonna shy away from that."
Tried to add that to my sig, but there's a max of 255 characters. =^/
He is so.....us.
He is us. GO HOKIES!!!
Oh shit! So thought this would go badly I did not even check the score. First I've heard of this.... I'll have to watch later today, but this is awesome! FAM!
Hell of a win! FAM
Amazing win, FAM. Committed to crashing the boards on both ends and it paid off.
