Alright fellas and Ladies. Tomorrow starts the main dual schedule. Starting with a ACC dual against Pittsburgh at 7 PM. And before that. We got a couple wrestlers going unattached to Pennsylvania. At the university of Franklin & Marshall. The Lehman Open. Seidel Gorman Burton and a couple others. Seidel is the one seed. And he might get two more opportunities to wrestle against top 20 wrestlers at 133. Gorman is the six seed at 141. And Burton is the one seed at 165

Seidel and Gorman with two easy tech falls to start the tournament
Wrestling is complicated. I understand all the words in your post, but put together, it's gobbledygook.
What do you need help with interpreting? Am sure APrimus and I can lay it flat for you.
We really need to pin this topic down...
A comment like that is just stalling.
I mostly don't understand the team aspect. He mentioned the dual schedule. Are there other things that aren't duals? How do duals and other matches factor into wins/losses? How does one win a championship? How does the team stuff factor into individual rankings and titles? What the heck is wrestling unattached?
lets back it up even further... how in the hell are points scored? are the matches similar to baseball where you have the top half of an inning where one person is on offense and the other is on defense, and then they switch? I'm talking An Idiot's Guide to the Idiot's Guide to Wrestling level of detail.
So there's a bunch of different ways to score. There's the takedown. Which is a 3 point move. Where you take your opponent to the mat and you are in full control. Which means you'll start accumulating riding time. And if you turn your opponent to where if you get your opponents One shoulder/shoulder blade touching the mat, with the other at a 45-degree angle or less. The ref will start counting for Nearfall points. 2 seconds get you 2 points. 3 seconds 3 points. 4 and 5 seconds get you 4 points. And once you get them back into a position where you are not in fall position anymore. And you let go of the hold. The ref will reward you the points. For example. Let's say you are up 3-0 and you turn your opponent into a the nearfall criteria. And you get a full set of nearfall points. You will put them back on their stomach and release your hands. And the ref will give you the 4 points. And you would go up 7-0
Each match starts with 3 Rounds
First Round is 3 minutes and Wrestlers start Neutral which means both are standing.
Second Round is two minutes and a wrestler is given the option to start Down or Neutral. Down is where the wrestler is center of mat with knees and both hands on Mat. Other wrestler takes position over him.
Third Round is two minutes and the other Wrestler is given the Down or Neutral option.
If match is tied after 3 rounds they move to Sudden Victory which is two minutes and wrestlers start neutral. If a wrestler scores during this time the match is over. If its still tied, they move to two Ride Out sessions of 30 seconds each.
Ride Outs are treated like Round 2/3 where each wrestler can opt down or neutral. The scoring here gets tricky. If its tied after Ride Outs, the winner is the wrestler with positive riding time.
Riding time is how long the wrestler remains in the top position/control of wrestler in down position. If at end of three rounds a wrestler has over a minute of Riding Time they receive 1 point.
There are 3 points for a takedown.
There is 1 point for an escape which is to get out of the control of the other wrestler after a takedown.
It can be 2 points if its a reversal. A reversal is where you escape and gain control of the other wrestler in a single move.
Back points was covered by APrimus above.
There are also points for stalling. Stalling is when a wrestler avoids aggressive action, fails to initiate offense, or prevents the match from progressing but its very subjective to officials view. They get one warning. Then its one point for next and rises a point each subsequent stall call. A 5th stall amounts to a disqualification.
The 2 points for a reversal is outrageous and I will die on that hill. It should be a minimum of 3 and I would argue 4, it punishes a wrestler for being awesome, really they should reward them with an extra point and make it 5!
I agree. Minimum should be 3. Such a hard thing to do makes 4 make sense.
Wrestling unattached means you not Wrestling for your team. You are Wrestling as a individual. These tournaments are a good way to get the youngins match ready. Or to keep the backups match ready.
Duals are where one school wrestles another.
Unattached means yet are representing the school individually, outside of the dual.
So everything that counts towards a team record and eventually championship is a dual? For some reason I remember other types of matches, but maybe I made it up.
No. The ncaa tournament is a tournament. There is no Dual National championship
Dual meets really only matter in the ACC schedule for the ACC Championship and for Team Ranking purposes.
There was for the first time this year a National Duals Tournament where winning out got NIL bonuses for the team.
The National Championship though comes down to your individual wrestlers wrestling through weight classes more in a Tournament style. Each weight class has a National Champion. The team championship is based on a scoring of all the teams individual matches.
For scoring an individual match you have Five unique finishes.
Decision = 3 points. This is a match won by 7 or fewer points
Major Decision = 4 points. This is a match won by 8 points to 14 points.
Tech Fall = 5 points. This is a match won at any point a wrestler gets a 15 point lead.
Fall (Pin) = 6 points. This is a match won when a wrestler puts both opponents shoulders (much larger area than just shoulders) on the mat for a set period of time.
Forfeit/Medical Forfeit = 6 points. Wrestler fails to wrestle.
bookmarking this summary. Well done in a very simple way
Based on the promo video that Tech put out for the Pitt dual it will be Gaj, Miller, and Church at 149-165. I'm most surprised that Burton isn't at the ACC duals. Looks like they are still seriously considering redshirting him.

Gorman loses 3-1 to number nine in the country. He finishes runner up.
Ryan Burton wins 7-6. He is your 165 pound champion!
And our VT starter @ 133 moving forward is.....
Idk. I think Seidel will get his five dates to be used before we officially know. And maybe another unattached tournament. Like the Edinboro open or the Purple Raider Open
If Seidel gets the start for an ACC Dual I think that's the sign. I hope they let him rip for the OK State dual, especially if Jax Forrest gets the nod.
He probably gets NC State. Unc. And Oklahoma state
Seidel is going to need some extra conditioning work to make up for how short his matches were. Reminds me of how short most of BAs matches were against unranked opponents.

Mullen loses 1-0

We really need a new Heavyweight coach.
That was terrible strategy. That is not Mullens style. Coaches told him to avoid pin
They just need a new upper weight coach period. We haven't had good 84/97/HWT in awhile. I think Sasso and Mullen have all the potential to be AAs. But Haught is ruining it
Bullock has looked lost all season. Going to cost us a dual at some point. Hard to understand how Robie let's that back half be such an anchor
That's why I hope Gage Wright comes back. He needs to take one of the spots. Either 74 or 84
Back half didn't look great short of desiante. Assuming they're pushing all the chips in on next season, who's taking over those spots?
