The Charlotte Hornets are retiring Dell Curry's No. 30 jersey on March 19, sources tell ESPN. Curry, the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year, ranks second in points in franchise history and spent 10 of his 16 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-98). He currently serves as a team ambassador.
Is this the first Hokie to have an NBA number retired?

I used to always drain 3s with him in NBA live 95
P.S. i loved that team, Mugsy, Grandma Ma, Zo, Curry, Hershey Hawkins.
That's really cool! I'm glad to see Dell getting some love.
As far as I know, Bruce Smith is the only other Hokie with a retired number for a professional team (Buffalo Bills).
If I had to guess, Kam Chancellor will probably have his number retired by the Seahawks at some point. And although it's not a true number retirement, I think that Michael Vick will probably be inducted into the Falcons' Ring of Honor soon.
Hopefully there will be more!
Carroll Dale is in Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
Another one to watch is Duane Brown.
Kam is not yet in Ring of Honor but was inducted into the Northwest Football Hall of Fame and is a current nominee for Pro Football Hall of Fame for modern players.
Kam being out of the league long enough to be eligible for the HOF hurts my soul.
I just found out that Antonio Freeman is also in the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame with Carroll Dale.
Makes sense
Tyrod better have his number retired by the Chargers as part of his Dr. Nick settlement
Good for Dell.
He used to come to Roanoke College basketball camp I went to as a kid and drain Half-courters with his eyes closed.
One year, he brought his son (not sure if it was Steph or Seth) who was hitting mid-range jumpers and crossing over at 3-4 years old. Should have had the foresight to get an Autograph...probably would have been in crayon but still....
Dell would have probably used a pen if you asked nicely, although even his signature in crayon would be fun!
Saw him playing live at VT when I was a student.
Hell of a baseball player too(was drafted)
Yep, me too. I also saw him pitch a game against UVA while sipping a clandestine brew sitting on the hill one fine spring afternoon. He won, of course. I would have loved for him to have played with the three point shot, but he was a ton of fun to watch.
God yes!. He already had2389 points WITHOUT the three point shot(2nd by only 95 points to Bimbo Coles who DID have 3 point shots available). Most of his outsi8de shots were close to or well beyond the 3 point line, and often/usually with a defender draped over him. Merely having the shots he DID take count as threes would likely have added 200-300 points more (or even more ); and if the 3 point line were available during his career, the coach would no doubt have schemed for him to take even more of them! There's a reason his sons shoot well!
There's a reason alright. Wish Greenburg had seen it, and for the excuse makers here, just don't start with the negatives, we've hashed it all out before and we didn't convince each other then to see it each other's way.
it's about time
Dell Curry is also a broadcaster for the Charlotte Hornets and team ambassador, despite also joining Amazon's NBA team for some national broadcasts.
I think his son plays basketball too. Wasn't good enough to play at Tech, not sure what happened to him.
Went to Duke and lost his first game at Cassell
Bumping this up since Dell's jersey was retired last night.
I thought this was a pretty cool tweet from Steph:
