Kyle Fuller the 2014 draft # 1 CB

Former Alabama quarterback AJ Mc- Carron said Kyle Fuller was the best defensive back he faced last season. Many sport analysts have ranked Kyle as the No. 1 corner because of his ability to tackle, play zone or man coverage. With the NFL draft a couple of days away, is it likely that Kyle Fuller is the first CB taken? I certainly hope so! Wherever he goes, AJ Mc-Carron wishes he never has to face Fuller again.

AJ McCarron doesn't want to be a starting QB in the NFL? That's news to me.

As others have already said, Fuller's abilities align well with the passing schemes we see in today's NFL and his current draft stock is justifiably high. I'll stay out of the draft prediction game but will say I know he will make some team happy. I am really looking forward to him representing the Hokies well on Sundays for a long, long time.

I am not an Xs and Os guy like a lot of people here but I would think, as the original poster noted, Kyle' full set of skills (tackle, cover, pass defend) combined with his ability to play in various coverage packages (zone vs man) as well as his ability to play both true corner as well as nickel have to make him a very attractive prospect. The other projected first rd corners may be better outright corners or better at one particular skill, but Kyle's versatility makes him a really strong pick mid-late first round. Really hope he gets his name called on day 1.

Just curious, can you provide the source for AJ's comment?

I'm hoping the Steelers draft him. Need a new corner and I'd love a Fuller jersey in Black'n'Gold

Ideally I want the Steelers to grab Fuller in the first, Exum in the fourth and Gayle in the fifth.

That's a lot of jerseys for me to buy

Stop hogging all the Hokies! I'd love to see someone else land with Green Bay to compliment Boykin. Anyone.

Like, maybe a nice Logan Thomas to learn how to pro quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers?

yes!

I'd be totally down for Thomas to Boykin pt. 2.

Okay as Green Bay is my other team, I would accept some additional Hokies there.

Sorry, I'd rather see fuller back there with Tillman and the Bears.

Biggest weakness Kyle has is that he has a history of being beaten on double moves (see Florida State, Clemson, Arkansas State, and last season Marshall.) Other than that, he is just about as textbook as you can get for a corner.

How much of that was jumping routes and expecting deep help -- and the help is late?

Ex: Late in Pitt game when Jarrett knocked Devin Street out of the game. Looked to me like Fuller correctly jumped on the first move/pump -- and was expecting Bonner (who had no coverage responsibility because Pitt kept 7 back to block 4) to help him, but he bite on the pump also. Fortunately Jarrett (who was probably assigned to help on the field side) got there in time. Fuller got a lot of heat from the peanut gallery on that one and to me it appeared that it was more Bonner's fault than Fuller's.

There were a few times like this when he got heat and to me it was his help (or lack thereof) as much as anything to blame.

I give him a pass for a couple early in his career. But, the burn against Marshall was a horrible play for a veteran player to make in that situation, especially on the boundary. He jumped a route and it was a double move. That is his MO. You play against him in the NFL, double move is the book on Kyle. Against Marshall, I just shook my head. You can't let a guy get behind you in that situation. They got mighty lucky that they escaped with a win.

That being said, he is my favorite VT corner since Brandon Flowers.

Kyle Fuller doesn't need to be drafted in front of Gilbert to be known as the #1 corner in the draft.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Fuller was the second cornerback selected in the draft, going after the Browns took Oklahoma States Justin Gilbert with the No. 8 pick, although Bears general manager Phil Emery said Fuller was the top corner on their board.
This is a player that is universally loved in this building, Emery said.

After the absolutely amazing performance in the GT game, how could anyone have any doubts.

You ever have a game where you are in the "zone", and you know it; you can feel the force all around you? He was so far in the zone that game that I could feel it too.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

After reading that I stopped convincing myself that I was sad he went to the Bears. If the Bears are in love with Kyle, then I have no choice but to be happy. I'd rather him be where people want him than him to be where I want him.
