Idk what the hate is about, I would be perfectly happy with this uni for the rest of the year. Sure the white helmets didnt look great, and the orange is pretty ugly, but I honestly have no complaints with this jersey. It's simple, and I like it.
We aren't a creative enough team to have really creative jerseys, but I definitely wouldn't mind them either.

@VT_Football stated on twitter the other day that the team doesn't even have maroon pants this year. So #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING is only a pipe dream these days.

I'm saying this and then I'm leaving it alone...WE NEED NEW UNIFORMS... I'm tired of this throwback look... We used to have mad swag— Z.McCray™ (@ThatBoy_Cray) October 15, 2012

By "used to" I hope he's referring to the MV7 days, because I was never a fan of the piping jerseys in '04 or those other hideous jerseys starting in '08.

I wonder how many people care about a 3rd string DL's opinion? Maybe it is the uniform that has been holding him back, but I doubt it. The white and maroon jerseys are awesome. They have the classic look of traditional football ala LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, UCLA, and Patriots, Colts, Jets in the day. We just need to quit with the orange and add stripes to the pants.

This seems to be the point of contention, the "traditional look" folks and the "Oregon's uniforms are cool" folks.
I believe you are one or the other. If you are Bama, Penn State, USC or Texas, you stick with what you got. You tweak, but you don't change.
If you aren't one of those traditional uniform schools, you change and you change often. Oregon is the easy example, but Washington, Okie St, TCU, Ariz St, Pitt, WVU, Northwestern, Mizzou, Miami, etc are all schools who believe in change.
I think the VT shipped has sailed for traditional uniforms. What everyone says is "let's pick my favorite uniform from the last 15 years and stick with it." That's arbitrary and susceptible to fashion changes. If you don't have a good basis for a traditional uniform, you gotta keep changing with the times. That will mean there are some combinations you don't like from time to time, but its the hand we were dealt.
Right now, I would like to see us stick with a white helmet because they are very "in" at this point in time. Then I would produce a new modern jersey, something more akin to the MV2 era or Boise game era. I would agree its time to put away the Beamer's Playing Days jersey stripes.
By the way, if you haven't see uva this year (and it's hard, because they never make it on TV), they are really struggling with the uniforms. Orange helmets, orange jerseys, blue pants with orange jerseys....its a clustertruck.

i think the fan base likes these unis as a whole, but we look the same as all those you just said, nothing about them says VT in any color, i dont want to look the same as any school, and do not underestimate the power of unis on the 17 or 18 yr old young men we are trying to get to play here. do a survey of a thousand of those kids and i bet that 75% if not higher love oregons unis and how they are always different
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'd go higher than 75%, especially among skilled players. I like that we can switch up our combinations and wear multiple uniforms throughout the year, but the impact isn't as great when you lose in them.
I think it's funny that Maryland tries to imitate oregon but instead of wearing a cool uniform every week, they were a hideous one every week. At least none of our combos have been hideous. The hokie tracks helmet wasnt spectacular but the uni as a whole wasn't ugly, and I've had many of my hokie-hater friends tell me the all blacks vs boise were one of the best unis out and I agree.

but it is never coming back. those days are gone, as just pointed out we arent one of those traditional powerhouses with the iconic uniforms. were not now and we wont be. i agree with the gentelmen who said that we should get a modern look. i like the stripes but its not unique. i want a nice looking unique uni set, i want people to be able to say "thats the hokies" without seeing the helmet. id like a couple diff helmets and #allmarooneverything for big games like its always been. again do not underestimate the power of a nice modern uni set in recruiting. nothing too crazy but modern non the less. i loved the boise uni set the all black. and honestly id like to see us have a set similar to the current boise unis, mostly solid color but with highlights, more than just piping. i dont understand the hatred of orange. its a nice change up, not a regular but a change of pace like a goalline rb.

Honestly i never liked that microchip thing either. I was skeptical at first about the blackout look but then I got the whole cadet connection. If we would have won that game we would have seen it more. I would love to see an all maroon with a two toned maroon matte finish helmet similar to the black one.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
yeah Hyrdrochrome is pretty slick. I love the throwback look for a few games. I love the retro VT stacked logo but they definitely need something fresh like matted helmets or Hyrdrochrome.

The picture of KJ, and the Tyrod one to a lesser extent, show how good these can look, because they use the darker maroon. Our modern jerseys seem lighter in color, so if we want true #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING, it needs to be maroon. Dark maroon. Like KJ-coulda-just-stabbed-some-motherfucker-and-there's-bloodstains-but-you-can't-tell dark. Bring em back.

I would be a fan off all maroon home (current style with stripes on shoulders), all white away including helmet (like worn in the FSU ACCC game 2-3 years ago when Danny Cole was so wide open), and maybe once a year (ONCE) doing a Nike pro combat type deal. I think this would give us consistancy and a chance to change it up once a year.
I do love the all maroons from Miami 03 (as seen above), however, my one personal knock on them was the orange numbers on the shoulders. I think if those were white with orange outline (like the numbers on the chest/back) they would be my all time fav.
I wonder what our current style (with stripes on shoulders) would look like with the darker maroon as seen in 03 vs miami (as seen above)
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
maroon jersey w/shoulder stripes and orange shoulder numbers, maroon pants with stripes on the side matching the jersey, maroon socks, maroon undershirts, and the maroon lid?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
but I love the current jerseys.
I just wish they'd stick with once basic concept - maroon jerseys at home, white on the road, maroon pants and helmets ALWAYS.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think the matte finish on the helmets or a Hyrdrochrome option would be slick. If either was done in maroon it would pop but still have the retro feel. I love the stacked VT logo as well.

I love it... But I think it would look slightly better if we had the orange and white stripes on the sides of the pants too.
Agreed plus
add a maroon undershirt, and maroon socks(!!!)
Maybe orange long sleeves?
#allmarooneverything
#allmaroonEverything
love it
I like the uniforms from 2004-06...I was hoping solid maroon would come back!!
Has the uniform combo for the game been made public?
They are solid, but not #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING awesome.
I honestly like this jersey a lot
Idk what the hate is about, I would be perfectly happy with this uni for the rest of the year. Sure the white helmets didnt look great, and the orange is pretty ugly, but I honestly have no complaints with this jersey. It's simple, and I like it.
We aren't a creative enough team to have really creative jerseys, but I definitely wouldn't mind them either.
Can you just go ahead and make the numbers maroon too?
our best shot at winning today
@VT_Football stated on twitter the other day that the team doesn't even have maroon pants this year. So #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING is only a pipe dream these days.
Last year, too
Though at this point, I'm unsure if this team deserves #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING
The team thinks similarly
By "used to" I hope he's referring to the MV7 days, because I was never a fan of the piping jerseys in '04 or those other hideous jerseys starting in '08.
Best Jersey's we've ever had:
I completely agree
I'm just so upset I never bought one.
YES!
I absolutely loved these jerseys. I am begging Tech to go back to something similar to these!
That's the one I own. Love it
I hated, to the point of semi-embarassment, the 08-09 home jerseys (especially the orange ones) but I really liked the road versions.
I think that's one of the best combos we've had.
That was a gorgeous uniform. I play with that one in NCAA12 a lot.
sweet
that is definitely one of the best options we have had.
honestly i think he was referring to the 09 unis
i know alot of the alumni base doesnt like them, but i never heard anything but great things from the majority of the younger fan base and players
I wonder how many people care about a 3rd string DL's opinion? Maybe it is the uniform that has been holding him back, but I doubt it. The white and maroon jerseys are awesome. Why should we have a traditional look?

uva's uniform combos have been atrocious. every. single. week.
i doubt its only his opinon

This is how #AllMaroonEverything is done
Best uniform combo ever:
that was a great one

And Another
So sexy.
Really tough to go wrong with either of them
beautiful
Love em. I dig the maroon with orange highlights
The orange highlights like that are the only acceptable form of orange on our unis.
BRING BACK THE POWER SLEEVE
Meh
Dude I didn't like the sleeve to be honest. What was the overall reaction to that one? Just wondering if I'm in the minority...
Personally, I loved it and didn't realize how much I actually liked these unis until these pictures were posted
Also Not a fan
Orange is for borders and adding an accent to a Uniform. That one had too much of it.
I really liked it when they did the "jester sleeves" and wore the undershirt inside out. But I'm weird that way....
No.
God no.
I agree, this is the best uniform we have had. It would be great to see this comeback at least one more time.
We need something between what we have now and the trainwreck that maryland wears. Recruits love this kind of stuff.
As much as some of you don't want to admit it, our program needs to modernize a little bit. Shane was phase one.
Facebook event just created for FSU game. Check it out.

"Fuck the blackout" are the first three words. Brilliant.
I didn't even know we did Blackouts.
What charity is this for?
If Tech wants to do a Blackout, might as well bring these bad boys back:

Minus microchip pattern
I was not a fan of that. Would have much rather seen them with Hokie Stone numbers/orange outline
completely agree
Honestly i never liked that microchip thing either. I was skeptical at first about the blackout look but then I got the whole cadet connection. If we would have won that game we would have seen it more. I would love to see an all maroon with a two toned maroon matte finish helmet similar to the black one.
ALLMAROONEVERYTHING
With that Maroon Hyrdrochrome helmet to bring in the recruits.
Hyrdrochrome
yeah Hyrdrochrome is pretty slick. I love the throwback look for a few games. I love the retro VT stacked logo but they definitely need something fresh like matted helmets or Hyrdrochrome.
Darker maroon

The rains soaked all maroon uniforms were just awesome.
2006
Clemson game was all maroon. Bring it back!
I am a fan of
I would be a fan off all maroon home (current style with stripes on shoulders), all white away including helmet (like worn in the FSU ACCC game 2-3 years ago when Danny Cole was so wide open), and maybe once a year (ONCE) doing a Nike pro combat type deal. The orange shoulder numbers are the best part
agreed
Can somebody
do a mock up of the following:
maroon jersey w/shoulder stripes and orange shoulder numbers, maroon pants with stripes on the side matching the jersey, maroon socks, maroon undershirts, and the maroon lid?
Don't know if this will work as I'm not programming saavy and not really related but its a cool pic of tyrod I just found on facebook/instagram
HYPERLINK TEXT
I appear to be in the minority
but I love the current jerseys.
I just wish they'd stick with once basic concept - maroon jerseys at home, white on the road, maroon pants and helmets ALWAYS.
One exception to the helmet rule
I actually really liked the matte black helmets (from the Boise game that we will never speak of again.)
And I also prefer the old school logo to the square root of 1 logo.
If I could figure out how to embed images in a comment I would do so...
matte
I think the matte finish on the helmets or a Hyrdrochrome option would be slick. If either was done in maroon it would pop but still have the retro feel. I love the stacked VT logo as well.
