I absolutely hate blaming the refs for the final outcome so let me make it clear that this is NOT what I am doing.
During the game, the commentators mentioned that the replay booth did NOT have the ability to slow the footage down for this game. Everything they reviewed was in a REAL TIME play back. That is quite possible the worst idea ever. How many times have you seen something on the field, watched the replay...THEN watched it slowed down frame by frame and realized "Wow I was completely wrong."
Clearly this had to have been part of the reason the Sammy Watkins fumble was not overturned. They probably re watched the play a handful of times at several angles but at live action speed the evidence was not indisputable. As far has switching the rules to two-hand touch on LT3 when they called that one play dead I have absolutely know idea.

I enjoyed this article below because it calls out the ACC ref's for a change. They have constantly been berated by the social media and now I find myself doing the same.

I don't want to "coulda shoulda woulda" the hell out of this game but I do invite everyone to vent out their frustration on the officiating.

Comments
If I put together a quick video montage of the bad calls from this game, would it be too painful for people to watch?
Please do it, so I have something to show people when I say how bad ACC refs are. You should include other times we've been screwed (ex: Ref moving the ball forward to give GT a first down after it was measured short: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTfCI-tJy_Y)
I warn you though, the above video will piss you off.
That makes me laugh
Every time I watch this clip it makes me laugh...I don't get it.
you could include plays from this game and last year's ACCCG.
It makes no sense to not have slow mo
in the replay booth. There's certainly no technical reason it can't be done, so the decision had to be made by the NCAA to maintain a sense of bang-bang snap judgements. Which of course makes no sense for instant replay.
Florida S. Carolina game
The refs made a call that one of the Florida punt blockers hit the Long Snapper too soon after the snap and knocked him back...The CBS announcers were looking at the replay in slow motion saying "How did they make that call its clearly over one second?". My wife and I were both like of course it looks like that you are watching in slow motion.

The refs made a couple of other questionable calls against Florida but they still were able to pull the win out somehow.
Good Piece and Great Picture
I dont think the refs gave klempson the game. A good team can over come those calls. I just think the bad calls gave klempson and their fans enough momentum to get back into the game and possibly changed the outcome...We still had poor play calling
So they did not have the ability to slow down the review film, just for this game or is that normal practice? That's fuckin retarded and it makes the review system very useless.
I don't understand how the commentators could watch everything in slo-mo from multiple angles but the refs couldn't. Clearly the capabilities were there but were ignored.
Maddening!
Is this only an ACC thing??
Just absurd. That ref could've watched the tv broadcast on his cel phone and gotten a better view of the play.
PAC 12 refs are worse
ACC refs arrive on short bus...
What was Beamer's reaction right after each of those??! He better have been going off on a ref, seriously.
The "sack" was the worst call ever. How can anyone watch that and agree with the refs???
Beamer's Reaction
These two bad calls occurred pretty close to each other. They didnt show Beamer on the broadcast after the bad sack call but he was livid after the missed fumble call. He looked like he was going to choke someone
Good!
I didn't see him on tv so thought I'd bring it up.
He's usually the "nice guy" but sometimes you need to spike the headset and rip someone up.
I was at the stadium...
and don't remember seeing Beamer after the "sack" but he was about 4 yards on the field after the missed fumble...screaming at some poor ref. Dude tried to get him to go back to the sideline so Clemson could snap the ball...Beamer took 2 steps back and then went forward another 3 yards. Got a "FRANK THE TANK" chant started in the band...always love seeing the head ball coach show some fire where it's due
You just made me feel so much better bro
Love the picture... Just hate the subject matter. :-/
The video would be great
And maybe someone can send it to the ACC offices to let them know how poorly that crew called the game on Saturday. That is not to say the crew actually "cost" us the game. We shot ourselves in the foot plenty of times with some moronic playcalling; however, something needs to be done about the ACC crews and their truly poor officiating as of late. If they're not careful then the ACC refs will get the same reputation as Pac 12 crews.
While I don't think It made a difference in the game
While I don't think it made a difference in the game, the non fumble call was a disgrace. I can understand the official on the field with it all happening so fast, to get the call wrong, but for the replay both to not clearly see that was a fumble is beyond me. Why even have replay officials anymore. Let's just have the fans vote live at home via cell phones on the correct rulings.
1,000 Words
This pic pisses me off
Great pic. WTH is happening in that booth that this wasn't a fumble. RIDICULOUS!!!!
Wow...
Great shot Joe.....honestly I am even more speechless as I see this sober. Makes one wonder what the hell went through the heads of these officials. This is not even close. A real damn shame.
No fumble on Watkins, LT3 down on contact while he was standing up, Hopkins pushed off on Fuller, missed pass interference on Davis, Boyd fumbled on the goalline (Clemson recoverd and still would have had a TD but it was still a bad call.)
Check this out
So, the officials from the Florida State-Miami game received a suspension; however, after some of the most atrocious officiating I've seen in a long time in the Clemson-Virginia Tech game, no penalties were handed down by the ACC Office. I hope they're saving the suspension for the week after next when the FSU/UM crew comes back.
