Three ACC teams are ranked in the first AP poll but the Virginia Tech Hokies is not one of them. The Hokies did receive 26 votes but not enough to make the top 25.

We'll be Ranked after we start the Season off 2-0. I'll see you guys in Columbus. Go Hokies!
Just found out that I am going to the anOSU game! I am too hype right now.
I will be there as well. Possibly right in the middle of the student section. Represent!
I'll be in the away section, so with all of the other Hokies! I am sooooo excited right now.
Sounds like there will be a lot of us there, we should plan a TKP tailgate in columbus. Or at least meet up at a bar during the game for those of us too poor to buy a ticket...
Good.
Let anOSU think we're cupcakes.
Obviously if we upset Ohio State we'll be top 15. Let's say for the sake of argument that we lose to anOSU. How many straight wins would we have to rattle off to get into the polls? 5-1? 6-1?
a lot depends on how VT looks against OSU, but if I were to take a guess, I'd say a 5-1 VT team coming off a road win vs UNC would be ranked
September 6, 2014 Headlines......HOKIES shock the College Football World! (2-0)
Good, the only ranking that counts is number 1 at the end. That's us!
Win every week, and the polls will take care of themselves.
VT plays better as underdogs . look what happened to Miami last year. Its better to not be ranked in the first Poll but ranked 1st in the last poll.
We play better when we're the underdog... OSU we're coming for you
Not surprised.

Alabama does not deserve to be 2. They should be 6 at the highest considering Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Auburn all have returning QB's. Oh wait, didn't #6 Auburn beat Alabama to go to the SEC Championship last year? The polls are so far up Bama's ass they probably have a rash. Screw Bama, and the rest of the SEC.
Especially LSU.
Oklahoma would be my #2, and they have every reason to feel shafted.
Couldnt agree any more, but honestly it doesnt matter, just let the weeks play out. With their schedule, they wil be able to prove it or not whether they belong that high.
There is no way 8 SEC teams should be in the top 25. Ole Miss went 8-5 last year, with loses to UNRANKED auburn (at the time) Texas A&M, Missouri and a terrible Mississippi St. Meanwhile 5 of those 8 wins are against teams that were way under .500. (idaho went 1-11, Arkansas went 3-9 -> started off 3-0 with 2 FCS games a 6-6 Troy team, a FCS team and Texas went 8-5 with some bad loses.
SO with SOS taken into play 3 wins were basically cupcake games. The reason SEC teams stay ranked is that there are always 5-8 teams ranked week in week out.. So if you have a bad game and lose vs A&M, then next week beat up on UF you won't move at all.
All I can say is thank god for College Football Playoff.
I honestly like being just outside the Top 25 to begin the season than be in the top 15-25. No hefty expectations or pressure to fall to. No "chokies" being thrown around in the early part of the season (and lets hope none at the end of this season either!) Like french said above, win every game, and it won't mean jack where you started pre week 1.
Pound the rock and play NASTY D- that's all I care about!
^^^^What he said. Get back to what made VT special back in the day!!
Count me as not worried.
I'm not sure why this is news. We knew going into the year that there is a LOT to prove for this year's Hokies. There are as many questions across the roster as there is potential for success. I thought the #32 AP ranking was rather generous without these Hokies having proven anything yet. We still don't have a settled situation at QB, our leading rusher is still coming back from injury, thin at defensive line, questions at linebacker, etc.
SEC teams, Alabama most notably, will always get higher rankings because they typically get the best talent on a year in year out basis. If this team goes out and get good wins against OSU (tough out) and then Miami and North Carolina (both ranked in opening polls) then all of that will take care of itself.
EDIT - I thought Miami was ranked in the initial poll, I guess not.
Definitely read that as "VT Not Ranked First in AP Poll." Thinking it was some sarcasm, I laughed. It wasn't as funny when I read it again.
Came here to post the exact same thing...evidently we have a similar tendency for usernames and not reading very well...

Where is LOLUVA ranked? That's right...they aren't. Go Hokies!
