QB Logan Thomas on NFL decision: "I've always told everybody that I'm planning on coming back. There's no change in that right now." #Hokiesβ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 27, 2012
Even though Logan's season has been rough, I still think he would have been somewhere between a 3rd-5th round draft pick. His size and arm strength are too great an upside for NFL scouts and GM's to overlook. He's shown well on film, albiet mostly last year. His stats this season aren't horrible, 1,910 yards, 13 TDs, 10 INTs, but up until now the sharpest he's look was the fourth quarter against Georgia Tech. There's still six games left, plenty of time to finish strong.
Obviously I'm happy he'll be back next season. Starting a rookie quarterback against Alabama next season projects like Glennon/Tyrod in Death Valley.

Living in the Lynchburg area (Where he's from) I meet a lot of people that went to school with him (and still do). One told me that he was planning on staying all 4 years. This just cements it. Hopefully he gets a nicer offensive line and back to support him next season.
The key words in that statement.
"right now."
Vick had a similar statement in 2000 this time of year. I remember HokieCentrals celebratory thread. Different situation obviously, LT won't be the #1 pick no matter what. But, disclaimers like "right now" often preceded sending in your paper work to the NFL to gauge your value. Until then, all statements are moot.
this is encouraging given the murmurs i've heard the last few weeks about him declaring as a TE.
relieved?...not yet
I agree with cds7c....Until i know for sure in Jan that he isn't going i will not put too much stock in words. I am really hoping though that he sticks around. It makes next season's outlook way better. It would be a very scary scenario for Leal to have to face the Crimson Tide defense his first start.
I wish every game wasn't a nail bitterso we could get Leal in there just in case LT does leave after this year. Although are we sure he'd start for sure next year or would Bucky Hodges get a shot at it?
That would surprise me
I would be shocked if Bucky won the job as a true freshman.
Bucks delivery needs a lot of work...
...does Carlis Parker stand a decent shot of eventually beating out Bucky?
Yes.....
Carlis plays for Stateville High, which is nearby for me, and just led them to a one-loss season and their first conference title in a long time. I've heard rave reviews from co-workers who have watched him. Basically, that he's an explosive playmaker with his arm or feet. I hope to get out to see one of their playoff games and will try to post more if I do. Also, I've heard that he's strong as it relates to intangibles/leadership. Given the fact that VT didn't drop their offer during a junior season that Parker missed due to injury, I have to think they're really high on him. I definitely would consider Hodges and Parker 1A and 1B in terms of the next long-term starter (after a potential transition year with Leal starting).
Bucky will be redshirt sophomore
when he starts his first game, unless Leal gets hurt. Leal is a pretty good QB. I really don't think Bucky can win the QB battle against Leal, but we'll see once Bucky gets on campus.
What better teacher
With so many similarities between Logan and Bucky, what better teacher for a year for him to learn the offense.
If there's a God,
they'll both be learning a new offense.
In other news, water is wet. I don't think this is one that Bitter needed to post, I wasn't even thinking him leaving was a possibility. And honestly, even if he were to leave, Leal has looked good in the few snaps I've seen him play (albeit, a very few number of snaps). What I want to see from the coaching staff is less of this shotgun spread crap they've been doing with LT3. He's not the same kind of runner as Newton like everyone seems to think he is, he's a power runner without great moves but does have a good arm especially on the deep ball. Line up in the I, ram it down their throats, and then run play-action out of that. I feel like every week our first 3 or 4 plays out of the I-formation are play-actions, well who's gonna bite when we haven't even run it yet?!
