I'm that 3rd string quarterback, just sitting back watching, learning, and reading from the sidelines. I think I've read every article, every post, learned what a turkey leg is, figured out acronyms, and realized what a great HOKIE community TKP is.
I"ve been a life long Hokie fan, and graduate of the 2009 class. It's safe to say that my life revolves around the Hokies. I find that I wear my VT gear more than my wife would prefer, I find ways to incorporate Chicago maroon and burnt orange into our home, and my office is decked out in as much Hokie memorabilia as can fit. My love for the Hokies continues to grow, and I credit a lot of that to TKP.
After yesterdays loss, I immediately turn to TKP for support, insight, and an opportunity to vent some frustrations. However, I learned very quickly that TKP community provided me much more than that. The majority of the posts I read were uplifting, positive, and showed support for the team. That was exactly what I needed, dwelling on the loss does nothing but shoot up my blood pressure. Instead, I learned that moving on, focusing on the ACC Coastal, and supporting the team through thick and thin is most important.
I have complete faith in Beamer and co. and I truly feel that this year is a turning point in the Hokies future success. I see big things for the remainder of this season and the first three games have provided great proof. The college football season is young and we have already witnessed Hokie greatness. We've seen a HUGE upset over the highly rated team, a transfer quarterback is showing some incredible ability, leadership qualities and passion for a school he just recently joined. Freshman have stepped up, offenseive line is showing growth, defense put together an NFL style game plan against a potent offense and shut it down, and most importantly, Hokie values of toughness, lunch pail, consistency, and family are being instilled in all the players.
My heart broke after yesterdays game, but my wife and TKP helped me realize how great this season has already been and how hopeful I should be for what lies ahead. Thank you Key Play and a special thanks to my beloved HOKIES!!!

Agreed 100%. Look at what happened to USC last night. I told my dad that they were the west coast version in VT in the way that they are super young but extremely talented coming off a huge win and getting outplayed by a good team (and yes BC is a good team.) I'm not as disappointed by this loss because we knew it would be very difficult to run the table with such a young team so we can get all the hype out of their head and they can go back to playing without all that pressure. I think they will learn from this loss and hopefully by the end of the year we will be looking back at this game and saying how much of a much needed wake up call they received from ECU. The future is bright and we are getting there, but people need to be patient and just enjoy the ride. Go Hokies!
On a side note, nobody is really talking about how good Cam Phillips was in the 4th quarter. He was straight money keeping us in the game several times. We could have two potential future All-ACC receivers in him and Ford. Exciting stuff.
I was really impressed with Cam as well. He showed a lot of poise in the 4th quarter. If i'm not mistaken, he took a few snaps away from Stanford after those dropped passes... nice to know that we have several receivers we can depend on. There is a lot to be excited about!
Moorehead and the rest of the staff have proven that if you're not getting the job done, they'll have the next man step up.
I'm sure that is a BIG selling point in the recruiting process. Best player plays, hands down.
Was that a result of Stanford playing poorly or the fact that Malleck was gimpy that Phillips was more involved?
Good first post. Great outlook. I also think we still will have a memorable year, and an awesome future.
Edit: FTW123, good point about Cam. I remember saying over and over to the ECU guys I was watching with in the bar, "yeah, he's a true freshman...that guy is a redshirt freshman,...yeah that guy returning punts is a true freshman...we have two 220+ true freshman RB's....yada, yada, (yabba dabbo doo!)". Soooo much to be proud of and hopeful for in the future, really.
Sam Rogers almost got his second TD.
From the east stands you couldn't see him step out. We were surprised it was called back.
On the replay, his heel was clearly over the line, but I wasn't sure that it ever touched the ground. However, it was close enough that I couldn't really complain.
I don't think I know of anyone whose heels hit the ground while they're running full speed, so I'd think that should have been enough to let the play stand (as well as the fact that the ref was right there to see it), but Ford came up with an amazing catch later in the drive (we think) to get the TD anyway, so no big.
.5 TD for Rogers + .5 TD for Ford = 1 TD for Hokies.
It's the latest new math, but I'll take it.
Hokie math! I like it.
It's how we invent the future.
It's called "everyday math" and if you have kids doing math in a public school this actually would seem like a normal equation.
Like 8+6= ? Involves using 10. Wrap your head around that.
On the big screen at the bar, it was pretty clear his heel hit the ground ob.
The worst part of that game is that the refs denied his pussy touchdown. The impossible was happening.
It's alright, he'll haunt them in their dreams for at least the rest of his football career.
He's been known to do his share of haunting.
I thought it was because the Geneva Convention banned him from scoring yesterday because it would've caused damage to the planets tectonic plates.
Great first post.
Well said nsn. Yesterday was a nightmare, but if this team continues to work hard & will stay focused , brighter days are ahead.
Thanks!
good first post, welcome to TKP as well. Keep posting threads like this so I can throw you more turkey legs
Keep commenting too (especially gifs). I love upvoting new mems.
Welcome Nick, thought I recognized the handle!
Good points above about the youth of this team.
There will be some inconsistent play, and I think we saw some of that yesterday.
A fair number of guys had some uncharacteristic play, and unfortunately, they did so in the same game.
Ha! We may have to do an intervention with you if your life centers around Hokies. :-) Good article.
