This is a real possibility. I hope it does not happen since I grew up rooting for USC (Grandma, Dad, Aunt, Uncle all went there). Don't hate me.
Having watched both teams all season, I think USC would be heavily favored to win, with or without Barkley.
If they end up playing I'll root for VT.

I'm conflicted
I don't really want to watch our secondary get toasted by Marquis Lee....he really has been a man amongst boys....but I really would love to beat Lane Kiffin again. Who knows...rumor has it he may be on the way out....just like he was when we beat him at UT. We could be his swan song at both schools.
I hope we play in the Sun Bowl
because:
1. It's a traditional bowl, not some recently-made-for-midweek-ESPN-viewership montrosity.
2. VT has played in it before, so some history there too.
3. It's in El Paso. And often in the snow. The landscape around the stadium is really unique.
4. It's in El Paso, so when we sell 327 tickets, nobody will care. VT bowl attendance has been dropping steadily for a decade, and we could play this game in Roanoke and sell <10,000 tickets based on this season. I would rather have an excuse for the near certainty of under-whelming VT bowl tix sales.
5. Its versus the P12, who we rarely get to face. Not the freaking Big East #2 (who will be way better than us anyway) in god-forsaken Orlando Florida. And it's not in freaking Charlotte either.
USC, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona State...either way, it will be interesting. Charlotte or Orlando versus the BE? No, please no.
6. El Paso is the birthplace of the margarita according to the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau website
i REALLY don't want to play a big east team either. i'm hoping for the sun bowl vs Pac-12 or the music city bowl vs the SEC. Nashville would be amazing.... but it might just be a little to low on the picking order :(
Yep.
List of preferences:
1. CFA - can we even be chosen for that? How far can GT fall? Not even available if CU loses to USC.
2. Sun
3. Music City -- Lots of good memories, SEC team, close enough.
4. Orlando bowl of suck.
5. Charlotte bowl of dog poop.
6. Home for holidays with a loss to uva to contemplate.
Don't forget Shreveport
I think the Independence Bowl is still in the mix
I could go for Music City.
That was a good trip in 1998. I'd go to that.
VT can still make the CFA bowl ONLY IF Clemson beats USC (losing most likely drops them out of BCS at-large range). Due to the "within one game" rule no other eligible teams will be 8-4 (except for FSU and Clemson). So the PEACH Bowl will be able to pick any 7-5 or 6-6 team they want.
I want Belk Bowl. No distractions from practice and any bowl this year is about getting ready to play Alabama next year.
And, God willing, any offensive changes will be made immediately following the UVA game, so the new coaches will be able to put in the first elements of their system during bowl preparation.
Goals for Bowl Practice:
1) Determine if Tariq Edwards can ever full recover from the lingering effects of the metal rod in his leg (he has not been discussed since the UNC game.) If not, identify next year's backer.
2) Identify who will be the 2013 starting offensive line. That grouping should get 60 of the snaps in practice, as a group, even if they do not play in the actual game.
3) Emphasis on seven on seven drills should be taking away the primary option on passing plays (improving LT3's ability to go through projections) and work on his presnap vision. Team on team should feature significant work on front recognition and sliding protections by LT3 and the center.
4) Wide receiver blocking, wide receiver blocking, wide receiver blocking.
Newsome knows
Rumor has it that Newsome expects to be fired at the end of this year. Still wondering if they axe Sherman and anybody else.
Wouldn't you? He'd have to be pretty out of it to not think that. With that being said I bet Stiney feels completely secure.
Sorry French, I have to disgree
I have to disagree... I want the Music City Bowl. After this season, I think our fans deserve to go to a fun city that we haven't seen in a while. Charlotte is nice and all, but how fun would New Year's in Nashville be? Come on... you know you want to!
