Random Thought

A couple days ago I saw that Stanford was taking a leave of absence. I first off want to say that if it is family related than I 100% agree that he should step away from the team. There is a big part of me that thinks he sees the writing on the wall. What happen to sticking with it and pushing yourself to get better and succeed? I see it too much now that people want to transfer or leave the team because some other guy just passed him on the depth chart. I know it will continue to happen but just want to know why people think the grass is greener on the other side. I wish him the best and hope that this passes and he comes back and becomes a contributor to a young and talented team that will do some great things this year and for years to come.

Agreed. None of us know what is going on with Stanford's personal and/or family life. Whispers generated from observations made about sideline behavior and cherry picked tweets from months ago are just that - whispered rumors.

If people cared as much about Hokie athletes as they proclaim, they'd stop whispering and allow the young man to address whatever issues he feels are hampering his performance as a football player.

Let Josh Stanford address his issues without sniping behind his back. If he returns to the team a more settled person, great. If he doesn't return to the team, as long as he is a settled person, then great, too. That's where I stand - for the best of the person, not the player.

If you look I said if its family related than I understand

if it is family then sometimes being far away from home is rough. You also have to add on that its been a roller coaster year for the team/him on the field. He was/is a very important part of the team, however the freshman coming in are just as good/if not better all around WR's.

IMO that has nothing to do with Josh's motivation/drive for the game it happens, but I also think this is the case because of the recruiting we did this year. We got 2-4 great WR's and they're coming in more polished than the WR's that are here. Josh's big issue is his lack of consistency/chest catches. It doesn't mean Josh can't get better but you have to wonder if he is starting to doubt himself. Sometimes the best way to figure it all out is to get away from it for awhile.

I don't see the writing on the wall, Stanford is a talented receiver, and has shown he can go across the middle and make plays - the young guys haven't shown this yet

Random thought (1): Idle speculation about the motivation level of players who have proved themselves probably isn't all that constructive.

Random thought (2): If someone leaves the team due to "personal issues", and the coaches definitively state it has nothing to do with on-field performance or disciplinary issues, it's probably "personal issues" that the player would like to keep private, and probably not on-field performance or disciplinary issues.

I agree. I doubt the coaches would come out and say the fully support him and his leave of absence if it was performance related.

Agree 100%.

Random though (3): random thoughts don't merit their own threads when there are already 2 threads from staff members about this topic.

If this were true we would not have the Brewmaster.

FWIW, I have it on good authority that his time away has nothing to do with the depth chart. What is most important is that he gets his mind right and sets himself up for the future, regardless of whether it involves the football field or Virginia Tech.

All I can say is be mindful of what you post here and other blogs, because the players, recruits, and staff do read it.
