Virginia Tech getting behind the ball?

With the large number of head coach turnover since the end of the regular season, specifically in the SEC, how soon does Virginia Tech move to replace our coaches on offensive side of the ball if at all? I feel that the Auburns, Tennessees, and NC States of the world will not wait until after the bowl season to start replacing their coaching staffs, placing Tech at a disadvantage. I really can't see us making moves until after our season is over, leaving us with the scraps of what other schools didn't want. This is a huge concern for me and I didn't know if anyone else is also afraid of the same thing happening or if its just all in my head?

bad choice

It would be a bad move in my opinion to replace the coaches before the bowl game. we still want to win that game for sure and having interim coaches at spots would be detrimental. One thing you could do would be just to say that the bowl game is the last game for a certain coach, which could work, or it could backfire. I would rather us wait until the offseason to start thinking about coaching changes

Virginia Tech, the only school that actually eats its own mascot <3

Coaching availability comes and goes, who knows maybe there are some good candidates out there who aren't available now but will be later.

Frank's in no rush

He's getting old and he likes to fully think through a decision, even if it's one that needs to be made urgently (urgently = years ago). IF it even happens, I'm predicting Frank will wait until signing day in February so that it doesn't interfere with the new recruiting class. Also it plays into the whole loyalty and stubbornness (new word: stuboyalty) side of his personality.

Bowl victory = ideal outcome for coaching staff = shines up the turd that was this season = unlikely that changes are made. Just my opinion.

Stop...

... comments like this make me sad.

Just because coaching changes haven't been announced, doesn't mean they haven't been lined up. It's like how some guys don't dump their girlfriend without having the next one ready to go.

I think we are behind

and we have been behind for quite sometime, although i will say that with the right personel our offense is legit, ie danny coale and boykin, dw4 etc.., but on the other hand with that same cast we couldnt score jack on clemson that year. My opinion is that heads need to be rolled on the offensive side of the ball, qb coach, oline coach and stiney need to go on somewhere, if Frank chooses not to do this, then i say we make a petition to take that God forsaken empty trophy case out of the atheltic dept because that is not our goal and hasnt been for quite sometime.

Most teams that are making decisions now

are doing so for one of several reasons. They have a history of bad performance (ex: Embree @ Colorado), or the performance trend is not upward vs. expectations (ex: Chisik @ Auburn, Spaz @ BC). They have a history of being a less than personable interface between the program and the boosters (O'brian @ NCSU). These are all HC positions, mind you. The position coaches & co-ordinators for most bowl teams won't get shuffled until after teams have played their bowl game. So the lack of any news re:CFB & the Hokie staff at this stage shouldn't surprise anyone. There will be good candidates available when/if (and it better be WHEN) changes are decided upon. And that's not to say that there are not discussions on-going behind the scenes with candidates too.

If Beamer has replacements in mind my guess is they are not only people he is familiar with, but people that he knows are interested in the job. Todd Washington (Assistant OL, Ravens) has been tossed around, and an NFL assistant isn't going to take the job until the season is over. The last two times Beamer made staff moves, it happened after the bowl game.

It might hurt our chances of landing Tony Franklin.

If Dykes gets a promotion, Franklin might go with him.

The one big advantage we offer an OC....

...is stability. Dykes looks like a good coach, but as Ellis and Embree have demonstrated this year, that is a 1 to 2 year window....maybe 3 (right, London?)

If someone like Franklin has a choice between VT and NCSU, he has to look at not only Frank's stability, but the very likely scenario that Frank's successor is already in house. You will not likely have to deal with regime change at VT, whereas at NCSU, it's almost guaranteed.

Many expect Beamer to retire by 2016

That sounds like a guarantee of instability. Although, that may be incentive to be hired with the thought of the OC moving into the HC position, much like Jimbo Fisher.

Unless Bud gets hired away...

He is in line for the HC job. As he should be. There's no way an OC comes in and jumps him for the spot.

Prediction: Bud Foster will never be the head coach at Virginia Tech

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Why is that?

Do you think he will leave before he is given the chance? Or do you think that we will bring in someone with HC experience when Beamer is done? Or do you think Bud isn't HC material at all?

Bud

has some issues at VT in his past. He is a great DC and would likely be a great HC somewhere. He has a sweet deal financially at VT though, and being the 2nd biggest fish in the pond ain't bad. Hope we keep him, he has some financial incentives to stick around I think. Regardless, French is right, likely never going to be our HC. Ask off-line if you just have to know more please.

Stiney is an excellent HC candidate

and by 2016, I believe the hope may be that Shane could be ready as well. And don't count out Torian Gray.

Shane could go to Ga State this year as HC.

"Stiney in an excellent HC candidate"

Huh

I've heard the argument before...

Something about being a better personnel manager than offensive strategist.

Not that I agree with the argument, since his "specialty" is supposedly the offense and he is incompetent at best at that.

Head coach needs to be someone who can command respect from his players and staff and is knowledgeable about the game to the point where he is a valuable resource for them, and I don't think Stinespring is capable of either of those roles.

Heard that Jeff Tedford is interviewing for OC

with Southern Cal...hmm
