Meh. I'm not a fan of teams using black when back is not in their colors. For Louisville it's cool. For us, Maroon is our black. We don't need to change our colors to look badass.

I'm one of the minority who likes when we deck out in orange on occasion. I do think there is a line we cross from looking like Virginia Tech to looking like orange popsicles though.

I'm aware I'm in the minority here on the black unis.
Both Pro Combat uni sets that Nike did for us looked great and are some of my favorite VT unis, I especially like the 2009 (white) ones. I understand the logic that black is NOT one of our colors, I just really like how the Boise set included different design aspects of what VT is...the cadets (Ut Prosim stitching), the engineering program (circuitry inlaid within the numbers), etc. I just thought it was a really well thought out design by Nike, not just mindless design as they seem to do now for most teams one-game uniforms.
There is a difference between the good uni design and bad. Boise state set, beautiful. Alabama set, a fecking trainwreck.

Looks meh up close. Looks like nothing at more than 20 feet. If I didn't know I was watching Louisville, I would have no idea I was watching Louisville. The kids may like these helmets, but they are identity/brand disasters.

Deep maroon chrome base that covers the lid and facemask. Oversized chrome VT with a chrome orange (same shade we saw for the WM game) border in the same style we use on our regular set.
That would look absolutely badass and would still hold our brand identity. To be honest, I'm a little surprised we haven't tried this, yet.

I am not a fan of the chrome helmets due to the fact that when the helmets are on grass they often turn green. OKSU had chrome and orange helmets and the silver just looked green all night.
The helmets looked like weird Halloween decorations on the field, but yet awesome in pictures that were inside.

Can orange be our new black?

then a slightly darker maroon with the same finish (as the UL helmet) with orange letters would work just fine.
^^^^^^That's what I was thinking.
Looks like a motorcycle helmet.
Matte>chrome/glossed
Metallic silver with a maroon Hokie Bird breathing fire
Can we just make it into a turkey dragon? Because that would be awesome.
I would love to see us wear the nike black pro combat jerseys we wore against Boise State against LOLUVA on (hopefully) black friday night.

If by badass, you mean hideous and unidentifiable as Virginia Tech...then yes, they'd be badass.
Maybe we should play with leather helmets and eliminate the forward pass. You seem to like old tired looks, that should be right up your alley.
The Miami helmets where the worse bottlefly looking things I have ever seen.
The entire uniform made them look like fat sweat bees.
Horrible.
