We all know how great of a job we've done with our '13 class. I know nothings final until Feb 6 but there's no denying the potential in this class that is estimated to go down as one of the best, if not the best class in VT history. Fortunately for us, our staff turnover [fingers crossed] is expected to happen on the offensive staff so the most prized gems of our '13 class won't be in a bind, but Harris and Hodges are top talent that we don't want to lose.
7-6 season. No decommitments.. so far.. with coaching turnover on the horizon. When is the right time to make the necessary changes? I know a similar question was raised about the timing of coaching changes in regards to the bowl game, but I'm pondering the timing aspect in regards to our recruiting efforts. Is Shane the glue that holds it all together? He did recruit Harris. Hodges was recruited by Newsome (who needs to go) and Carlis Parker was recruited by Sherman (who reportedly has one foot out of the door).
Make the changes before signing day or after? Make them when the best person becomes available? Make them knowing there's a chance we could lose what could be the next 4/5 years of our qb position? Or does our recruiting class see the potential there is in Blacksburg with some staff changes and become more excited to become a part of Hokie Nation?
Obviously, this is assuming changes will be made. We don't know if changes will be made and what changes may be made. But if you're Beamer and you want to make changes, how does recruiting factor into the process?

I think it depends
on who Frank has in mind for the job. If it's a high profile hire (Hamilton) it could be as soon as Jan 2.
IMO
I think we'll see the hires before Logan declares for the draft or not (I think January 15th is the deadline)
When he said he wasn't sure about returning or not after the bowl game, it sounded like who the coaches were next year had a large effect in his decision. He would be more inclined to stay if we had a new OC and QB coach that is known to put talent into the NFL (Pep), versus who we have now. So I think Frank will try to hire before January 15th to give Logan time to decide.
If we make a solid hire, I don't know why any of the recruits would leave.
There are a lot of instances of coaches switching jobs at the end of the season and bringing "their" recruits to a new school with them. It's recruiting, and you never know what's going to happen. I don't think Newsome will be able to sell Bucky on JMU (LOL at the notion), and Carlis going all the way out to Purdue doesn't seem too likely.
Each kid is different, some really make a strong connection with their recruiter, others the school, others the system they'll play under, ..., there are a million different reasons why a kid commits and signs. It's no secret that our offensive looked anemic this season, but if the change is for the better, i.e. we bring in a high profile, successful offensive coordinator, we'll be able to sell that to commits before signing day.
I think the staff will be able to keep this class together, and hopefully the new coaches won't lose momentum with the 2014 kids, because to me, that's a bigger worry.
