Coach Buzz...Much Respect

So my granddaughter is in the 3rd grade at Gilbert Linkous in Blacksburg. Apparently, so is Coach Buzz's son. Buzz has already came to their class about 4 times this school year to read books to the kids. In addition, he has handed out little cards to each kid. The card has the Hokies' hoops schedule on the back, with a motivational sports picture and quote on the front. He also autographs each one right in front of each kid. The kids love it and it is an example of a great role model for sure.

Just for comparative purposes, my granddaughter was classmates last year with Jeff Grimes' son, and I don't recall Jeff coming to class. Not saying it didn't happen, but my granddaughter never mentioned it.

Again, not necessarily earth shattering for a coach to come in and spend time with his kid and the kid's classmates, but it is definitely not something he has to do and it shows a lot about Buzz's character as a coach, person, and parent.

Thanks Buzz!

F'n Buzz Williams!

Dell from the turkey!!

I know we all want wins - but what Buzz is doing is already producing results for many more people than ever expected.

Could not be happier to have him.

It's really evident that Buzz is just a good person, He has the right mindset, the right focus, and an excellent vision for the program. Buzz is one of those coaches where you'd be proud for your child to be a player for Buzz. They'd have to work hard, and be challenged, but they would be molded into a better person during the process.

Buzz is good people.

Buzz is a class act.The sports world needs more coaches like him. Grimes was also a good person with his own persona since he adopted a child from a different country, if i remember correctly. Grimes also knew he wanted to be in the SEC so he didnt really bother in Blacksburg.

Fair point about Grimes. I have no evidence of him being anything but a good guy. Just wish we could have kept him. That being said I have hope Searels will bring it home for us on the OL.

Buzz is hooking them young. Smart man. Fully invested is succeeding.

That's something Whit also recognizes and has spoken about several times. Engage the kids & make them fans for life. So they want to attend here because of the great image they have from sports, and they remain Hokies for life.

I've read that as well. Whit makes me excited for the future.

What I appreciate so much about Whit is that when you hear him make comments like the one I referenced above, you think to yourself - 'That is SO fundamental, yet makes so much sense! Why haven't we done that all along?...'

I really appreciate both him & Dr. Sands. We just hit grand slams with both those guys. So vibrant, so engaged with people, so refreshing.

This is going to look really good after he goes dancing a few times

I was going to say Grimes was way busier fixing the mess on the offensive line but then I remembered our basketball team is in rough shape too haha.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.
