Stiney is NOT leaving

Stinespring is not leaving the staff. What his job title and duties are remain unknown but I know that he is heading out to recruit this week so he isn't getting fired.

Sorry to ruin your Monday morning.

I don't think anyone was hoping for him to be fired (at least any sensible fan). He is a great recruiter and the ideal situation has always been for him to take a more administrative role and continue assisting the team as a recruiter.

At the very least he just needs to be relieved of his OC duty.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

I'm okay with him out recruiting, its his strongest attribute.

Him playcalling? Thats an entirely different discussion which I believe HokieNation has exhausted at this point...

I feel obligated to ask the question we are all wondering: source?

He didn't call plays last year

MOC did. To me, the guy who calls plays owns the offense. From what I saw, last years debacle was a lot more MOC than Stiney.

Not that Stiney was ever a good playcaller or whatever other duties an OC does, but people get really caught up on Stiney. I think that's misdirected, he's a great recruiter and a solid OL coach.

I'm aware Stiney didn't call plays, sorry should have edited myself more carefully. Still on my first cup of joe. Like him as a recruiter and line coach, just don't like him as an OC (regardless of his responsibilities)

Both MOC and Stiney were in the booth this year

In 2011, only MOC was in the booth calling plays, and our offense performed pretty damn well (given, we had a lot more on offense to work with) You don't think that Stiney said a single word to MOC regarding play calling this year?

Does our playcaller have to be in the booth? I would prefer the QB coach to be on the sidelines.

Correy

he's probably got a lot of work cut out for him to try to hold onto our top recruits since the coaching shake up or lack thereof is looming. im glad to see hes out there working, we need to have all the guys from this strong class sign in february

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Recruiting Coordinator

This was kind of a given that he wouldn't leave, just have a new title. I've seen him with recruits and that is what he is best at.

At first,

I wasn't sure if we should keep him on the staff, but after seeing this tweet, my opinion changed:

Obviously I'm aware you can't keep coach around just b/c players like him, but if all the players feel this way about Steiny, then I say give him another shot as a position coach. The fact that he's stuck around through all this turmoil shows his loyalty to the players and the team. He might've been in over his head, but he's still a Hokie, and now that he's no longer an OC, I think it's time to stop the bashing.

I'd be shocked if he wasn't retained in some capacity.

New Helmet

Since they retired the Fighting Gobbler maybe they can put Stiney's face on the side of a helmet. Worse case scenario is we get a 3 man booth of Stiney. O'Cain, and Loeffler. You know we would not want to let him go because he is a nice guy and a good recruiter. I for one am tired of hearing this talking point for the last several years.

Call me crazy

But I feel for the guy, I do... Especially after reading Collin's tweet. I am so glad he was "relieved" of his duties but I do hope he stays around. He's gotta be useful for something? ;) Just not play-calling or offense. I won't bash anymore, I got what I wanted. I heard the poor guy can't even go to the grocery store without being hassled.
