Okay so we've got our coach. We know he likes to run the ball. Who will get the starting job in 2013?
I just watched film on Drew Harris, Trey Edmunds, and Chris Mangus, and we all know what JC and Tony G look like on the field (yes, I'm ignoring Michael Holmes).
JC Coleman: He's fast and dedicated as hell, he can make it through holes that very few backs can. On the downside, the coaches don't think he has the size to be an every down back.
Tong Gregory: He's been here a while, but never truly gotten a chance in the spotlight. I doubt that will change in his senior season.
Drew Harris: I like him. He is surprisingly fast for his size, and runs with purpose. He can break tackles, and is explosive in space. The only thing against him is that he is new, and missing spring practice is not going to help his case.
Trey Edmunds: Another powerful runner who has decent/average speed. He runs smart and finds holes pretty well too.
Chris Mangus: Surprised me in film. He needs to bulk up pretty badly, but he was fast and very shifty. He could stop on a dime and found holes well.
I suspect JC and Edmunds will split carries early in the season and will create a solid change of pace until Harris is game ready, but then who knows what will happen. I fear we may end up with another 3-4 back rotation, if one is not a complete stand out.

I think
Edmunds needs to head back to defense, and just let J.C. get work until Harris becomes to go-to guy. Just my two cents.
I wish we could just rotate JC and Harris, but I'm pretty sure the coaching staff is set on having Edmunds as a tailback
I hope
That it'll be Drew Harris. That's who I can see the most out of. I wasn't really impressed with any of the RB's this year although the line didn't help. I'm curious to see what Drew Harris brings to the table. Once he gets to the table....
Power + Speed
We cant possibly expect Harris to be in the "running" until week 3 or 4. You have to assume that it will be a combination of Edmunds and Coleman leading the pack. Mangus (as cool as his hair cut is) is too thin. He reminds me of Tony Gregory. There isnt enough meat on them bones to make a dent in a Fiesta, let alone the Bama d-line. I say line up Kris Harley at fullback and put JC + Trey on either side in a wishbone. We'll see who has their teeth left after they deal with big nasty.
I almost said the exact same thing about Mangus reminding me of Tony G
edmunds or harris will emerge as the #1 back with coleman as a change of pace back. i hope they stop the rotation this year. it was one of the worst coaching moves ive seen us do. give the guy the ball and let him get into a groove.
Edmunds
Has great speed
vice average speed.
Can we all just agree that Michael Holmes and Tony Gregory should only get touches when we're up by at least 40?
Agreed
Haha I basically just said the same thing below
RBs
Thank you for ignoring Michael Holmes. I hope we treat Tony G in the same way - yes he's fast, but he can't break tackles and he still has a fumble problem.
I hope Harris/Edmunds are our Evans/Williams combo and JC4 can be a change of pace guy mostly used in the pass game and in space.
I will say this in regards to JC4 - I don't think we really know what we have yet in him. He didn't shine last year but how could he in a terrible system behind bad o line play. As a Pats fan, I've seen what a little back (woodhead) can do when the big guys in front of him do their jobs, so I wouldn't be surprised if JC4 breaks out next year (assuming our offense as a whole is competent).
Coleman gave us a glimpse in the Duke game, with a little hole and downfield blocking he can take it to the house!
Coleman should be watching Jacquizz Rodgers play...
...for the Falcons - and taking copious notes. Seeing the 5'6" Queezy plow over the Seahawks safety was a thing of beauty.
I'd actually like for him to start watching Ray Rice
I think he already does...
How is JC allowed to even be in this Nike add?
my guess is because nike owns us.
my guess is that it was photoshopped or something. There's no way Nike reached out to JC4 for an ad.
This was my first response too
but figured there had to be a reason, and it's a year old now. I didn't want to be the person who brought it to attention
I'd like to see a JC / Drew Harris dual threat.
Love the look of a small RB like JC (a la Ray Rice, Darren Sproles, Jones-Drew, Quizz, etc.) paired with a bigger bruiser type guy.
The experiment with Holmes & Gregory (add in Mangus, Edmunds, etc.) shouldn't be a thing, IMO.. Just let them do returns and stuff while focusing on the two best guys.
Mangus could actually be a great return guy, Edmunds... not so much. He's the bruiser that will compliment JC before Harris steps up.
Let them return?
Nooooo. Sugar bowl? Did Holmes have one good return last season? We need to get back to Beamerball and I don't think they're the way to do it.
Not to be disrespectful or rude to them or anything, but I would be thrilled if Holmes and Gregory never see the field again in a capacity that requires them to have the ball in their hands.
Having gone back and watched the Clemson/Auburn game
it was very evident that the Loeffler offense utilizes a lot of lead fullback blocking.....FB play will be very important next year.
Good
Lucky for us Reilly Biero has a lot of potential. Hopefully he grows a mullet.
Don't forget
the 'stache!
Long drawed out plays
First thing, NO MORE LONG DRAWN OUT PLAYS when the quarterback hangs his arm fully extended waiting for a back to get it. DUH!!!!! why dont we just tell them whos getting the ball?
YES. I have been cursing that play this entire season... THANK YOU.
I say we bring Brandon Ore back.
Employee Discount
He could probably still get the hook up for the team on Taquitos at 7-11.
