UVA Football Recruit Arrested on Alcohol Charge - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News
Monday, the University of Virginia's top football recruit for the upcoming season is in trouble with the law.
Charlottesville police say the teenager was drunk and stumbling around in the middle of a street on the UVA Corner over the weekend.
Taquan Mizzell is UVA's first five-star recruit in eight years. Now the high school student from Virginia Beach is facing a misdemeanor charge. The 19-year-old was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with unlawful purchase or possession of an alcoholic beverage.
Charlottesville police say an officer assigned to patrol the corner found Mizzell walking in the middle of Fourteenth Street around 2:30 Sunday morning. The officer said Mizzell tried to kick a car as it drove by. Police say the officer noticed Mizzell had been drinking, asked for his ID and arrested him since he's underage.
This weekend was a big recruiting event for prospective football players to visit UVA and experience Charlottesville.

I think deeper investigation is necessary...
Think about this... he's here on an official visit. He's staying with another UVA player, in this case, Eli Harold. Harold's birthday (his 20th, I do believe) was last Sunday (technically the day Mizzell was arrested, but it was at 1:30-ish in the morning). Do you think Harold will be hearing from London? Do the police want to know where Mizzell obtained said adult beverages? Harold is still under age as well. How does Mizzell get away from his official host? Did he get away from his host? There are more questions from this episode that I wonder if we'll ever hear answered.
My guess is that the kid figured out what he had committed to, and decided that he needed to get very, very drunk.

"Taquan Mizzell is one of the top running back recruits in the country, and last weekend he took an official visit to Virginia, which he committed to in August. Now, official visits are generally used to try to convince a recruit to come to that school by giving him a feel for the place. And while fun can certainly be had on an official visit, too much fun can be had as well, and while Mizzell was on his official visit over the weekend he had a too much fun.
A Charlottesville police spokesman confirmed Monday that Virginia Beach running back Taquan Mizzell was arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol on Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m., on the 100 block of 14th Street near campus. An officer spotted Mizzell, 19, standing in the middle of the street trying to kick a moving vehicle, Lt. Ronnie Roberts said, before determining Mizzell had been drinking.
This is an embarrassing situation for Mizzell -- and for Virginia, I'm sure -- but he's a 19-year-old kid. I don't blame him, because 19-year-old kids do stupid things all the time. However, if I'm Virginia coach Mike London, I might have a talk with any Virginia player(s) responsible for hosting Taquan for the weekend. They should know better by now."

Bradshaw ended up spending 2 summers in jail in Abingdon in the Regional Jail after he went to the Giants for what happened when he was briefly at UVA. He abruptly "ran" and went to Marshall and never showed up to face the charges in court. A little bit of scandal at the Jail, he was getting lots of extra food and exercise time and actually bulked up a little more. They were letting people that they knew come in and get autographs; leaked out to the press and no one wanted to talk about it but it still raised a big ole stink. The Bristol Herald Courier wrote a piece about it.
