First came the tweets from Aaron Moorehead. Our new wide receiver coach intends to have people down field blocking for our backs (unlike certain nameless WR's this past year). When our guy says "I can say very confidently that blocking will not be an issue!", I take that as a good sign (and I like that he put the exclamation point in, too!).
Now we read this from Mike Barber's blog. Dan Hawkins, former Colorado coach on his former OL coach, Jeff Grimes:
“He brings a certain attitude to the offensive line,” Hawkins said. “I think a little bit is his personality. It’s just the man’s man approach to it. He’s not a guy who’s going to sit out there and dog cuss guys. But his approach his to be hardnosed and be no nonsense and, ‘Lets get down to business.’”
Hawkins said Grimes is more about that tough attitude and style than any particular offensive scheme or system.
“I think the biggest thing for him is that you have an identity and hang your hat on it,” Hawkins said.

I'm starting to get psyched. I can't wait to see what Grimes can do with our OL in spring practice!

So basically Bud reincarnated as an OL coach... I like that. :-)
More guys are going to be playing their nuts off!
Watch This
After I watched this, I was perfectly happy with him as our o-line coach. I think a lot of the old guard just got old, and complacent. At the very least, I'm happy we brought in fresh blood. Indeed, he seems like a man's man.
Further affirmation
I'm thinking this is going to be a really good hire.
Oh, he'll fit right in.
"get after 'em when I need to."
"yellin' at 'em, gettin' after 'em if I need to be."
Think Grimes played
Beamer Buzzword Bingo?
It's an oldie-but-a-goodie from TKP archives.
he said it again...
in the presser today lol
I'm hoping
we can keep this guy for a while. If he's successful, I'm not sure we can hang onto him for long.
We just need to get him to get that wild-eyed "I'm-gonna-kick-your-butt-into-next-week!" look like Bud. Maybe that will be a game-day thing. Having Bud and Grimes next to each other with killer looks on their faces could probably win us a few games just on gotee-strength alone.
Another article from Mike Barber
This is what Vanderbilt defensive backs coach George Barlow had to say about Moorehead.
Jeff Grimes
By far my favorite hire of the Beamer era. Pretty stoked to see how our OL does in upcoming years.
what a difference
the right tool for the job can make. As a fanbase we stressed over the perfect hire for months, but lost sight of the fact that we simply had the wrong tool for the job in our previous coaching configuration.
The engineer/guy in me routinely does this:
1) acknowledge problem
2) draft tool/solution agnostic requirements
3) brainstorm possible solutions
4) narrow down final choices
5) select and implement
When we were stressing over Pep, we were well into phase 4 and didn't realize it. Things were bad. The problems were addressed, and splitting hairs over which coach to hire is a little like arguing over which microbrew to order or LCD vs plasma. Things are going to be much better, and I am pretty stoked about it.

Moorehead
A supposed film room genius could do big things for our offense considering our past players never were told the value in it....
Just think of what LT3 can do with some improved coaching! Can't believe how many say he should go back to TE; he WAS our offense for the season. I've said it before, and will say it again: a 4,000-yard season is definitely possible with him. Look at what he did with seemingly everything else going wrong this season; almost 50% passes imcomplete but he still threw for just shy of 3,000-yards (along with the almost unavoidable 524-yards of rushing)!
Edit: Logan Thomas is a hydrogen bomb that just needs to be tamed! Having him return--the first RS Sr QB since '98--is huge for the program. I think these new coaches might be just what the doctor ordered.
