Va Tech - OSU ticket question

I am planning to come to the Tech - OSU game and had a ticket question. Right now, tickets are nearly $300 and up on StubHub; which is a bit pricey for me. I plan to see if I can get tickets from OSU but it's hit or miss even as a season ticket holder. I was wondering how easy is it to scalp tickets at the game? What should I watch out for? For example OSYU student tix need to be upgraded to be used bay non-student.

Thanks an I look forward to the game...

Insanely expensive up until kickoff (not joking, $1000k might be the minimum by that point outside the gate).... after kickoff, they'll fall below face value.

Not to be pedantic, but $1000k is a million bucks. I don't think they'll be that high.

lol oh damn... good catch...

That being said, I'll gladly scalp my ticket if an anOSU fan wants to pay $1000k

You'll almost certainly see guys out side the stadium selling em, although it's a complete crapshoot as to the price. I'm sure they'll start off near StubHub prices during prime tailgating time, with prices dropping like a stone as you get closer to/past kickoff. If you're willing to wait until after Enter Sandman (not recommended), tickets will probably be close to/slightly below face value. Also, definitely stay tuned on here, as you'll be more than welcome to join us at our various tailgates and what I'm sure will be an official TKP tailgate. Looking forward to hosting you guys!

Thanks.

For your reference (since I always try and find this info at other schools and its always hard to gather) the away team seating section is the SE corner of the East Stands (Sections 19 & 39)

No offense to any OSU fans but I sure hope that it's hard for any tOSU fans to get tickets. tOSU gave a really low allotment of tickets to VT for such a huge stadium last year. I was able to get tickets off of ticketmaster for the game later on for about $170 a ticket.

VT should have a sell out and I hope its as close to 100% O&M as possible.

I can understand your frustration. Part of the reason is the huge demand for tickets by our fanbase, faculty and students accounts for most o fetch seats and we could sell out to them alone. Alumni association members get a lottery shot and usually wind up with some non0marque game. Interestingly enough, tickets are usually available game day at the box office, but for popular game you need to get there early as scalpers already have their paid line guys in line. OSU should make them available first to real fans since they know how many will be turned back; which are usually faculty season tickets.

Personally, I think a school should take care of all student requests first and then go to alumni, etc with the visiting team last in line; I would hope you guys do that even if it means no Tickest for me...

We'll let you in to the student section and call it even

eesh, I don't even want to watch the game from the student section any more. I can't imagine why an opposing fan would...

Works for me. How bad can a bunch of engineering nerds be... Wait a second, I am one of those as well, (remembering college days at games), never mind...

As a side note, prices for parking passes for most games exceed ticket prices. We must be spoiled at OSU because I have never had to pay for parking or at most $10 to be right on campus.

Yeah I don't think it'll be that many tickets being scalped. Especially considering the size of their fan base and the importance of the game

There's always tickets being scalped and they are often by the same guys too. But for the tickets, expect them to start at $150 or more. I still think they will sell for $100 up until halfway through the 1st Quarter.

If you know any hokies it might be easier honestly just to order season guest tickets for like 215$

I do. Thanks for the idea. I once bought tickets to a bowl game form the opposing school and was on their email list for a few years...

Yeah have them order guest tickets then let them sell the guest tickets on "free and for sale" Facebook page or the student tickets Facebook page. People always want guest tickets

I thought season guest tickets were around $50 per game so $300-$350?

I can remember being offered $900 each by a scalper for my tickets for the 2005 (3) Miami game. In hindsight that would have paid for the next two years tickets if I had accepted.

Hate to give away trade secrets here, but you can buy VT gear, hat, sweatshirt, etc. and troll the highroller's lots. Start early, ask everyone you meet if there are tickets for sale. If you can avoid the "professional" scalpers, you should, unless money and quality of seats are irrelevant to you. Then, when you get in the stadium, cheer for the Hokies and you'll have a fantastic game day experience.

Either way, if you end up in a non-OSU section, respect your hosts and the game and, again, you'll have a fantastic game day experience, win or lose.

Tickets were going for $120-$150 from scalpers before the Clemson game in 2011. Since Ohio state is the defending national champ, I would assume this game would be double that at minimum

I personally think tickets are going to be scarcer than people are discussing. There will always be a price that can get you in, but a few times tickets for Lane have been extremely scarce (2005 Miami as mentioned above was one of them). By the time the game rolls around, fans will be frothing at the mouth for college football and feeling good about our team coming into a new season full of promise. I assume OSU will travel well and have lots of fans looking for tickets as well. If the weather is nice, I could easily see tickets going for more than $300 with very few, if any, available even after kickoff. This is the type of game where prices won't drop below face because there won't be any tickets left.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Agree completely. It's been so long since VT had a marquee good weather early season home game, much less a night game, that not many people are going to miss it. And if you do have tickets and you know ahead of time you can't go, stubhub or your friends will be happy to take them off your hands

Exactly. Not to mention if OSU fans make the trip to Blacksburg and pay for a weekend of hotel accommodations and all, they are going to be willing to shell out money to get into the stadium instead of watching the game downtown. I'll be surprised if you can even find tickets into the 1Q.

Funny you mention the 2005 Miami game. That was the only game as a student where I tried to scalp a ticket. Made the mistake of not asking to see the actual ticket before handing over the cash. The guy didn't have any tickets but knew someone working the gate and they snuck me in. I got to see the game, but having an actual ticket with an actual seat would have been nice.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

Then there was the year that some scalper was selling counterfeit tickets. Imagine shelling out the big bucks and getting THAT rude awakening just before kickoff.

That's why I stick to StubHub or an official ticket exchange like OSU runs through TicketMaster. I may pay a bit more but have never been burned.

Having grown up among the arrogance which is the ohiost mob, my sincerest wish is for thousands of their rabble to make the trek to Bburg only to be shut out of tickets at any price. A biblical plague upon to the VT ticket holder who even considers entry of an f-eye in the Lane. Let them listen to Roth&Burnop on 460 west.
