I have never understood the fascination with Top Gun. The bad guy didn't pose a huge threat. The love interest was a scary intimidating woman. Val Kilmer was much better in Tombstone. The theme- a cocky jerk gets his buddy killed before he learns how to be a team player, didn't resound. Basically, besides cool jets and Goose (who they slaughtered), the movie is terrible. Yet, people will go to the mattresses defending it.
So, I have decided to put together a list of all the 80's movies that were far superior to Top Gun. Feel free to add to it. This isn't in any particular order except as I think of them.
1) The Three Amigos
2) Ghostbusters
3) Caddyshack
4) The Goonies
5) Coming to America
6) Police Academy
7) Police Academy IV

There is 50 to get it going. Now you chime in. There are tons of 80's movies far superior than Top Gun. Share yours!

Comments
Man, and I left out Flash Gordon! Ouch!
Man- more no brainers:
The Naked Gun
Good Morning Vietnam
CROCODILE DUNDEE (a personal favorite- THAT'S A KNIFE)
Good Morning Vietnam was epic.
it's pronounced KNOYFF....
A Christmas Movie. How did I miss that?
Die Hard is the quintessential Christmas movie. A Christmas tradition in this family. Yippee ki-yay!
TEEN WOLF
I can't get on board with the following being better than Top Gun:
-Tron
-Rambo II
The rest are at least on par or better than Top Gun
Also, does anyone remember Earth Girls Are Easy?
Was that Jim Carrey's debut role?
I thought that was Rubberface?
For the longest time I thought it was Once Bitten.
Raising Arizona
See No Evil, Hear No Evil
Hooisers
What about Platoon?
Bull Durham (how did I miss that?)
Tough Guys (Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas)
Disorganized Crime
The Dirk Diggler Story mockumentary (1988).
On this week's "French's opinion differs and is therefore greater than your own", Top Gun: Does it suck?
Yeah, it do. But I'm anti all things Tom Cruise.
Except for maybe Days of Thunder.
And I'm just bustin' your Frenchballs.
Don't know about you, but I liked The Last Samurai and Mission Impossible
I wasn't a fan of either. But I'm not an expert movie reviewer by any means. I think M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water was okay and Wes Anderson's movies are good. See, you hate me.
Just filling what was looking like a slow news day/work day with another snowstorm on the way.
Speaking of Val Kilmer... I don't see Willow on your list.
My husband and I have had heated arguments over Willow. My vote for Val Kilmer's greatest is the non-80s film "The Ghost and the Darkness."
Tombstone
he was actually pretty good in Felon also.
Uhh, the freaking DOORS?!?!?!
edit: Tombstone is the shit though.
I saw "The Doors" for a dollar in McBryde during my senior year. Went back to my girlfriend's apartment and proposed to her that night.
The movie didn't have anything in particular to do with the proposal, but it was a good night all same.
I'm also focusing more on this thread with hopes it will make the Shai McKenzie one go away.
Not only did that thread not go away, it multiplied like a Mogwai that got wet.
they are dangerous after all
I assume you also exclude Cocktail from your "anti-Cruise" list.
Everyone loves Cocktail.
You can't like Days of Thunder and not like Top Gun. It's the same goddamned movie.
You stop your blasphemy!! Both are FANTASTIC movies...but the same they are not!!
Negative, Ghostrider. Top Gun is much better.
A Few Good Men is excellent, in spite of Tom Cruise
I've often wondered if Donald Bellisario had binge watched Top Gun and a Few Good Men when he came up with the idea for JAG.
real genius
weird science
adventures in babysitting
weekend at bernies
The list grows!
I forgot Mannequinn.
Kim Catrall's best work by far.
Sexy as hell...
Flight of the Navigator
BRAT patrol
Lost Boys
E.T.
Man, I don't know why, but ET and Gremlins creeped me out when I was a kid and I never have been able to jump back on board.
Neverending Story scared the junk out of me as a tot.
It was unnerving.
The mom from the Goonies was on the door to the porn section in my video store when I was super young. Creeped me out and didn't see that movie till I was 23.
wait.... WHAT!!?
Can't tell if you just ruined my childhood or made it better....
Probably a little bit of both.
Maybe I can help you with your ET phobia:
Why all the hate for top gun?!
Right? Top Gun is the tits.
Because it's a really bad movie?
and remember.....I said with all due respect :)
History of the World Part I
Let's all jump the queen!
Scarface
"YES! GO ON! COME ON! YOU F-K WITH TONY MONTOYA YOU'RE F-KING WITH THE BEST!"
Lmao! Had me rolling. Probably my fave line from the film.
SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND...
Golden Child
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Witness
Footloose
Plus 1 on Who Framed Roger Rabbit
I left off two Michael Keaton classics:
Gung Ho
The Dream Team
Gung Ho is classic Michael Keaton, this movie has at least 3 80's work montages, 5 stars.
I will never forget having to watch Gung Ho for a class at Tech.
Splash
Bill & Ted's excellent adventure
Shining
Batman
Say Anything
Can't Buy Me Love
Btw, Term 2 was the 90s.
Whoopsie Daisy!
Better of Dead
Bad News Bears
Boy Who Could Fly
Neverending Story
Bad News Bears was 1976?
good catch
FTFY.
haha, true. I was going for the pun "catch" for baseball movie but this works
Danny Coale doesn't even play baseball but he still makes those catches.
A Fish Called Wanda
Nice movie. Jamie Lee Curtis's peak of hotness.
Big Trouble Little China
Labyrinth
Over the Top
Scarface
The Outsiders
Good catch!
proud to say I saw this gem in the movie theater
'Merica!
I'm going to list this as 80s, cause it was filmed and developed in the 80s, despite its March 9, 1990 release...
Joe Vs the Volcano
best Tom Hanks movie ever
Surprised these two haven't shown up yet:
Clue
Breakfast Club
The Last Starfighter
excellent addition
Bladerunner
Freejack
Robocop
Full Metal Jacket
How did I miss Robocop?
I also liked Karate Kid 2
Me too. Sato was scary. I actually remember buying one of those little drums in the Bahamas when I was 10 years old.
the greatest autograph I have ever seen.

I got one from Cancun when I was 8.
Thinking back, Sato was definitely scary but at least still had a heart. Chozen could beat up anybody (and he did), but he was still a punk.
Octopussy
War Games
Dead Poets Society
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Return of the Jedi
Rain Man
Risky Business
The Thing
2010
This post intentionally left blank
Road House
The Untouchables
Field of Dreams
Untouchables was great.
Crocodile Dundee II
AND HOW DID WE FORGET UHF?
SUPPLIES!!
The first and original Transformers film (1986) before it got Michael Bayed.
Watching all of those Autobots (most importantly, Optimus Prime) getting killed in the first ten minutes was extremely traumatic for myself and all of the kids in the theater. There was even an episode of "The Goldbergs" about it recently. Looking back I find it hilarious that the writers/creators didn't think that little kids would care if they slaughtered all of their favorite cartoon characters.
Don't forget the soundtrack!
Also kick-ass. Anyone who doesn't have "The Touch", "Dare", and "Dare to be Stupid" as part of their workout tracks is missing something. I forget, did Devo have a track on there as well?
Aliens (1986)
Raging Bull (1980)
Police Academy
Blues Brothers
The Running Man
The Blues Brothers should definitely be on here for the most ridiculous, over the top car chase scene in the history of cinema.
If you're looking at destruction, the original Gone in 60 Seconds could give it a run for its money.
your all over it brother! killing it! im pretty sure youve named 50 movies from the 80s better than top gun in just the last 5 or 6 comments above! some of my favorites ever! untouchables! blues brothers! keep it going!
hows everyone feel about critters? i was younggg when i 1st saw it but i can remember the night mares like it was yesterday! these little balls of fur rolling up on you and eating your face!
thanks. i owe it all to my 3 babysitters: HBO, Showtime and Skinamax.
Conan the Barbarian
Willow
Empire of the Sun
Chariots of Fire
Coming to America is 4 spots too low on your list.
He said he wasn't listing them in any particular order.
Coming to America is the most quotable movie of all time.
So you see son, there is a thin line between love and nausea.
-"That boy is good!"
-"Yeah, good and terrible."
I tied my own shoes once. It was an overrated experience.
Caddyshack is the most quotable movie of all time. End of discussion.
Sorry man, but that distinction actually goes to Blazing Saddles.
"Fletch" has a pretty good storehouse of quotables.
Strange Brew: The Adventures of Doug and Bob McKenzie
Short Circuit - Johnny 5 is Alive!
Highlander
PeeWee's Big Adventure
Pale Rider
Red Dawn
Mad Max 1 & 2
+1 for Red Dawn. Probably the only time on this website that I will happily type, "Wolverines!!!"
(Danny Coale caught that ball!)
Red Dawn...the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall. John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache
Eight Men Out
Dragnet ("The Virgin Connie Swale")
Uncle Buck
Color of Money
Escape from New York
Good Morning Vietnam
Bloodsport
The Beastmaster
The dark Crystal
Armed and Dangerous
Fletch
Howard the Duck
Tango & Cash
Excalibur
Cobra
Little Monsters
Mr Mom
Was Flight of the Navigator mentioned yet? That intro music kicked ass with the dogs catching the frisbees.
Rad. Quite possibly my favorite movie from my childhood.
I was going down the list specifically looking for this and Thrashin'.
Aw man I was thinking I could drop this one. One of my childhood favorites as well. +1 for you.
Nobody messes with Cru.
I cannot believe I forgot this one. My favorite movie for years. My borther and I watched it every day after school, literally every day, for months
We're finished here.

Nothing. Nothing was better than Top Gun.
What do you think about that Goose?
Seriously, Kelly McGillis is Larry Bird in a wig. With bigger hands.
Top Gun was THE reason I went into Naval Aviation...There is no better 80's movie
You sure

positive....

Top Gun was THE reason I started playing volleyball in my jeans. There
is no betterare a number of better 80's movies but Top Gun was pretty good.Ok...I can get on board with this. There were lots of great movies in the 80's..but Top Gun is right up there with any of them. I remember being so happy when they gave me my Tom Cruise starter kit. (Flight suit, jacket, helmet bag, vest, etc.)
My squadron made a great spoof of top gun actually...it's called Prop Gun... If anyone is familiar with the P-3 Orion it's pretty damn funny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk9ATctJHd8
Great stuff. The cast names are epic. Foozball in jeans with shirts off, epic. I didn't have time to watch the whole thing, but...BRAVO!
My Dad was a 30 year Navy jet jock (Call sign G-Man), My 2 Brothers were an F-18 pilot (Call sign Danger) and an F-14 REO (call sign Spicolli). Me, I'm just a lowly engineer putting comm gear an all of these birds for the last 30 years.
US Navy Aviation is the best!
Great movie! My dad was a Navy pilot. HS-1, Squadron Leader of HS-9.
Are we just naming 80's movies are are we actively trying to determine which are better than Top Gun? This has turned into a cluster. Howard the Duck, for instance, was not better than Top Gun.
Top 10 80s movies
1. Die Hard
2. Glory
3. Ferris Bueller
4. Princess Bride
5. Airplane
6. Raiders of the Lost Ark
7. The Shining
8. Back to the Future
9. Stand By Me
10. The Breakfast Club
No Three Amigos, No Coming to America, NO DICE!
And If SusieQ came to me and said she wanted to have a movie night at home, and Howard the Duck vs Top Gun were the options, I am rolling with Lea Thompson every time.
So what your saying is you prefer inter-species heavy petting vs. shadow sex
When the shadow sex is with a woman whose hands are big enough to palm my head like Andre the Giant holding a beer, yes.
Plus, Lea Thompson is Lea Thompson.
I think thats the point, that every movie from the 80's is better than Top Gun...which I disagree with. If you don't like Top Gun then you don't like America. I'll list my reasons below:
It was before Tom Cruise got weird
Maverick was found not at fault in Goose's death, in all seriousness IceMan was the cause though not on purpose
Who doesn't love "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins?
The fact that the enemy wasn't that dangerous is blinded by hindsight. In the 80's Russia was presumably a very capable super power.
Americans were cocky in the 80's, especially our Service Members. Regan turned on the cash flow, and after some successful operations in places like Grenada and covert missions in South America, we were finally washing the stink of Vietnam off of us. This movie did a great job of capturing that.
Meg Ryan was still hot
This movie may have single handedly saved Ray Ban's and Hanes t-shirt companies. Maybe not, but a lot of dudes were rocking that shit afterwards!
Man so true! That guy is wacko now
I do love Danger Zone. You know what's better than the song? The music video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siwpn14IE7E
No qualms with the track, but I raise you THIS
All in with this royal flush;
A-4s and F-5s from the Navy Aggressor squadrons of that day were bada$$! My Dad was CO for one of these squadrons out of Oceana (Va Beach, VA). He said is was the most fun he had his entire life kicking new F-14 and F-18 pilots a$$ every day...
All The Right Moves
An American Werewolf in London
Stand By Me
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
How awesome does that new Mad Max movie look?
It looks like it could be pretty awesome, but it's a movie I would have to go see by myself. My girlfriend saw the trailer and gave it a big "NOPE".
YES.... I have already told my wife we are going to see it this summer. She thinks it looks stupid, but I don't care.
Same reaction from my wife, but I don't care, we are going. The trailer got my inner nerd so hyped!
If we count made for TV, add the George Washington mini-series starring Barry Bostwick. That Horatio Gates was a real AHole
Used to have this recorded on VHS. It was watched regularly, because America!
This is the reason that I have "The Crisis" by Thomas Paine memorized. That Charles Lee was a real prick.
Risky Business - "Shai get off the baby sitter!"
Ouch! So apt for this week.
Is this a list of 80s movies that are better than Top Gun or a list of movies that will be re-made within the next ten years? Probably both.
Funny you mention that....
Jerry Bruckheimer Says 'Top Gun 2' Will Be Tom Cruise Versus Drones
Sounds like that abomination of a movie Stealth from a few years back.
When Harry Met Sally... ok, you got me... Give me a moment while I surrender my Man Card
Best romance of 80s, followed closely by Dirty Dancing.
Where do we turn in the man cards?
I would argue Say Anything. When Harry Met Sally was very good. Hated Dirty Dancing.
I never liked Dirty Dancing, either. I never understood what everyone thought was so romantic about some dance instructor in his 30s macking on some teenager.
But how 'bout that immortal line "Nobody puts Baby in a corner"? Man, I'm still gagging.
ANNNND Dirty Dancing was partially filmed at Mountain Lake just up the road from the Burg. My roommate from Houston Street and some other friends were grips on the movie...
I won't say Top Gun is the best movie of the 80s but I will say its an amazing action film. Thats what it is and thats how it should be viewed.
You would really rather watch Big, Field of Dreams or Stand by Me (all great movies) over Top Gun? You must be rooting for Selma to win the Academy Awards over American Sniper this year.
Editors note: I have not seen Selma and am not endorsing American Sniper to win best picture (it definitely was not best picture)
Personally, I think The Grand Budapest Hotel got robbed for Best Picture
Alum - I love Wes Anderson movies. I have been trying to find time to watch Grand Budapest for 3 months (yet, here I am on TKP...) and Ive heard amazing things. Everything he writes has rich characters and dialogue that rivals Aaron Sorkin. The only nock on Anderson is his films are often a similar theme, thats why Im so excited for Grand Budapest.
French - Big has funny moments but far from hilarious and I can't argue your point with Field of Dreams since you grew up watching it with your parents; clearly a better reason than "its cool, fast, and fun". My point was more that Top Gun shouldn't be compared to different movie genres. I could watch a great drama like Wall Street a few times but not nearly as often as Top Gun. Top Gun can be more of a social movie too, giving it greater range
I would watch Big (hilarious, Elizabeth Perkins) and Field of Dreams (loved classic baseball and heart-tuggers that make me think about my parents) 1000 times over Top Gun.
Again, when I want jet fighters, I put on Iron Eagle because I was a kid then and I wanted to steal an F-16 and blow up Iraq while listening to Steve Winwood tracks.
Sub List: 80's Tom Cruise movies better than Top Gun
1) The Outsiders
2) Cocktail
3) Rain Man
4) Risky Business
5) All The Right Moves
6) The Color of Money
A Few Good Men
90s. Hey what about that film he was in with Sean Penn ("I've been to Iraq you know.") where they were students at a military private school that was about to be closed?
Taps?
Sub List: Top 80's Crushes
1) Kerri Greene (The Goonies/Lucas)
2) Lea Thompson
3) Elizabeth Shue
4) Mia Sara
Oh, God...Elizabeth Shue!
Yes! When The Saint came out it was amazing.
Given the bad news today, we can't leave out Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
F it I'm all in with Tango and Cash! Best Movie of the 80s EVER!
Best movie, probably not, but it was the first great DVD for large screen TVs coupled with a surround sound system. When I built my second house I pre-wired the family room for surround sound. This movie was made for surround sound. You could literally hear and feel the F-14 Tomcats cross the room. Every time someone came to the house that was the first movie in the DVD. That movie rocked on a large screen with surround sound and a sub woofer!
Trading Tango and Cash in for Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Seems appropriate for todays trending thread and has a football sub plot.
As a Naval Aviator, I have a duty to love Top Gun. As a movie lover, I must also acknowledge that it is an objectively terrible film.
Did we just become best friends?
I can appreciate this...I know bad movies when I see them...but there are some movies that I really enjoy watching despite the fact they are bad movies (Top Gun, Shooter, AVP, Die Hard 3, just to name a few)
Going Ape
I've never talked to anyone who has watched it but we had it recorded on vhs growing up. Here's the premise: there are 3 orangutans and a crazy Danny Devito. The rest doesn't matter. It was on Netflix a few months ago, highly recommended.
TL;DR
Anyone mention The Great Outdoors yet? Some of John Candy and Dan Akroyd's finest work.
Strong work down low!
Gremlins?
Puppet Master?
I'm sure most of the Star Treks that were in 80s
Sure someone has mentioned Road house , didn't look at all responses
Labrynth
Legend
Krull
The Dark Crystal
The Neverending Story
My daughter is obsessed with Labrynth. We don't think she's ready for the Dark Crystal yet.
How old? I think I was six when I saw it. I tripped balls over it.
she's 3
I suggest NOT show to your 3 year old. That movie both terrified me and intrigued me throughout elementary school. Having watched it many times since I really don't know why I was so put off by it, but as a kid I remember just feeling like the whole thing was a nightmare but I could never not watch it.
That sounds like the Neverending Story for me.
Not ashamed to say I have occasional nightmares about Gmork to this day.
IMO, give her 3-4 years. She needs to be old enough to understand what happens on the TV isn't real.
there's plenty of adults who don't understand that
The Ewok Adventure
Land Before Time
Santa Claus the Movie
I'm just throwing legs around all over the place on this thread. The 80s were a friggin golden age in cinema. I don't even know how to describe it but they just don't make em like they used to.
Off the top of my head top 10 in no particular order.
Platoon
Empire Strikes Back.
Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The Burbs
The Goonies
Batman
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
ET
Spaceballs
Side note: we watched Legend just last night. That is a weird (but good) movie. That devil scares the bejesus out of me.
This. This is how you explain it.
I think this is inaccurate in what they think it depicts.
A lot of the most successful movies in 2000s and 2010s are ones that are playing to the nostalgia of all of us that were kids in the 80s. ANd Harry Potter 8 is not a sequel it's an adaption.
I think it would be more accurate to say that this proves Hollywood knows a money maker and riding the money of the first video game generation is an easier route to cash. There are still loads of highly creative movies every year, we call them indie's now. Not blockbusters because our generation created blockbusters and nearly all of them are made to appeal to us.
I was just about to mention Legend in a post up above because some listed Mia Sara as an 80s crush. Tim Curry can be a real creep. Pennywise the clown anyone?
I just ran through this entire thread without seeing

'Bachelor Party' mentioned once. Did I miss this?
This, to me, was the turning point in cinematic history.
that movie was the first time I saw boobs
^
Thank you for proving my case.
Breasts>>>>>>guys flying airplanes.
First time I saw boobs was when I was curious about a VHS tape called "Against All Odds." Thank you, Rachel Ward. Thank you.
i had seen boobs. but the Stevie Nicks song, "Violet and Blue" was on that soundtrack...one of my favorites.
Though sadly, I never got to touch or see Stevie Nicks' boobs...back when it would have been a life list kind of thing
For you Stevie fans
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSPTIt08VBg
I just took my wife to see Fleetwood Mac last night in Charlotte......GREAT show!
i am truly envious, saw them back in the late 70's.
No, I'm the envious one:
I told the wife that I would love to be able to see them at an early show now, to compare before all of the water that has gone under that band's bridge.
I bet you saw some other great acts as well.
There are some good videos from those tours...1978 and 1980. Amazing band. Lindsey Buckingham sounded like two guitarists at once. In the Tusk tour, Stevie Nicks would do costume changes behind a curtain on stage...suspect she was doing other things there as well. Seemed to get "re-energized" from time to time. In the middle of one song she kind of locked up...Christine McVie reminded her what song they were on. Then she made a costume change. Then she was all better.
Summer of '77, pretty sure it was the ol' Cap Center in Landover, MD.
Did anyone mention 'Amadeus'? Great, quirky movie...
Predator!!!!
Thank you!
#GetToTheChoppa
sorry if these have been mentioned. Getting to be too many to keep track of:
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Midnight Run
Explorers
Krull - duh!
The Secret of Nimh
See No Evil, Hear No Evil
Oh!
The Last Dragon - classic Bruce Lee
Youngblood
Casualties of War - MJ Fox in a war movie. "Sarge!"
shit- Steve Martin...
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Roxanne
hmmm...
Always
Stand and Deliver
getting difficult to think of more...
The Burbs - great tom hanks movie
Ladyhawke
Taps
Monster Squad - damn how did I forget that. "There's only one way to kill a werewolf"
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
The Wizard - the power gloves heyday, it was short lived but glorious
The Natural - my mom's favorite movie
Scrooged - best Christmas movie, period
I can't watch Scrooged. The burned alive scene is horrifying.
Yeah, but nipple scene:
.
.
The first movie Bill Murray deserved an Oscar for.
Commando.
"You're a funny guy, Sully. I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you last."
Best of the Best - awesome movie
Space Camp
Brewster's Millions
License to Drive
Throw Momma from the Train
Lucas
Dragonslayer
The Toy - "May I present to you Master Bates"
and for those of us with Skinamax: Any of the Emmanuelle Movies
Wow, we all missed Purple Rain.
JEROME, GET MY MIRROR
How...in the fuck...has no one said Lethal Weapon???
I've actually never seen Top Gun, at least not all the way through. But I've always felt a connection to it because apparently, when I grow out my 'stache, I bear a passing resemblance to Goose. I was once accosted by a very excited French bartender and "Top Gun" and "Goose" were the only words I understood. It was a pretty cool moment for me.
Stripes - loaded with quotes. unless I missed it don't think this has been mentioned yet.
An Officer and a Gentleman
48 Hours
and an awesome sleeper of 80s- The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzi Across The 8th Deminsion.
"where ever you go there you are"
Stripes was a big miss on my part.
I think we are missing Night Shift and Beetle Juice.
Night Shift was great, and Michael Keaton was awesome in it. "Why not feed mayonnaise to the tuna fish?"
Correct
Maximum Overdrive
No Holds Barred - Hulk Hogan classic, BOOM
You mean Zeus Lister classic.
I so wanted to add
Being There
And Justice for All
But they were released in 1979 when I happened to be 14.
1979 was a great year for movies. At least two of my all-time favorites:
Apocalypse Now
All That Jazz
Time Bandits
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Brazil
I loved Time Bandits. The ending is just ridiculously surreal and cruel. I used to have nightmares about being in one of those hanging cages.
The Princess Bride - with Andre the Giant.
I have failed at life for not saying that.
It's #12 on French's list. I repeated some he had on his list as well so no biggie, but just saying
At this point I have forgotten there is a list up there
How are we at nearly 220 comments without anyone mentioning Cannonball Run?
Anybody mention Blues Bros?
Yes, fernley did yesterday
Just so you know.... Ctrl-F is your friend
Don't have that option on iPad.
Wouldn't it be far easier to ask what 80s movies are worse than Top Gun?
Mystic Pizza
Nope
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Nope
Pretty in Pink
Nope
I have to admit, I do enjoy the Psychedelic Furs' contribution to the sound track.
Pretty in Pink wasn't that bad of a movie. Back when Molly Ringwald was hot, in her own kind of way.
And the Furs, yes. Saw them in a small nightclub in Chicago around 1990. Great show.
No one has said Heathers?
Bruh, fuckin Heathers?!? While we're at it I'll add Gleaming the Cube and Pump Up the Volume
pump up the volume!!! - how could I forget this one, damn't
Speaking of pump up the volume this one goes to 11. This is Spinal Tap! Duh
The 80's was loaded with movies, can any other decade produce the volume listed here?
Oh my god Gleaming the Cube.
I'm not sure if you're a fan of Heathers or not by that statement. What's your damage? That movie is so very.
No I love Heathers, I was surprised and disappointed in myself that it hadn't crossed my mind yet.
While I know I listed it, I can't believe there isn't more love for Back to School. RODNEY DANGERFIELD'S BEST PERFORMANCE, and it also had William Zabka William Zabka-ing.
and OINGO BOINGO FTW
great movie, what other gems would Sam Kinison have produced. Professor Turgeson!
Shakespeare for everyone!

Inconceivable that this hasn't been mentioned yet:

Lucky: "... Put on show. Stop. The IN-famous El Guapo."
Dusty: "What's IN-famous?"
Ned: "Oh, Dusty. IN-famous means more than famous. This El Guapo is not just famous, he's IN-famous."
"I suppose you could say that everyone has an El Guapo. For some, shyness may be an El Guapo. For others, lack of education may be an El Guapo. But for us, El Guapo is a large ugly man who wants to kill us!"

Since this thread turned into naming great/random 80's movies instead of naming ones that are better than Top Gun, since that would be a short list anyway. I'm appalled that no one has mentioned this yet, and I'm considering renouncing my membership based on this grave oversight!

Loved it
Maybe Christopher Lloyd's second best role.
The Evil Dead should be on there. Man I love me some Bruce Campbell.
Evil Dead II was better :P
True! For some reason I was thinking it was made in 91.
Iron Eagle was such a good movie. The second one I thought was pretty good too. 3 was just so different but was one of my childhood favorites (I lived on that, Short Circuit, and John Wayne). The fourth installment was horrifically bad though
