Conflicting Reports on Ty Outlaw Commitment

Apparently his high school coaches are saying that he just committed to VT, but his JUCO coach says no commitment has come yet.

But if it is true, huge pick up for Hokies. Kid can play.

If he did/ is trying to commit, it is probably just a matter of somebody leaving the team(or not leaving) for it to become officially confirmed (or shut down).

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

This seems likely to be the reasoning. Number 16 nationally according to 247, so you bet your ass we're gonna make it work. Based on the link below, this looks like a done deal.

He's listed as committed on 247....hmmmmm

Does he have brothers? We could be a team full of out laws.

I hope he commits, he has an awesome name

Everyone except for 1 or 2 guys are saying its a done deal.

Sounds to me like its happening, which would be nice. One of the top transfers in the country and still has 2 years left.

Everything I have seen or read says he is a Hokie! To all the haters out there just..

As someone who admitedely doesn't follow the bball team that close (anymore) - is this a big get for us?

247 has him rated out as a borderline 3*/4* small forward (247 has him a 9.00 and a 4*, composite has him a 9.00 and a 3*), and rated the #18 overall transfer in the country, and #2 transfer at the SF spot.

Doesn't necessarily fill an immediate need, but it doesn't hurt to have some added depth at the shooting spots.

Just for clarification he is rated as the #18 JUCO Transfer, not the #18 Transfer in the country. Regardless it is a huge get for us.

Depends, we have a full roster. If we are losing Hudson, Bibbs or Hill.....then, no. Outlaw is at best as good as those guys. If we are losing Wilson, Henry or Mueller, then Outlaw is an upgrade.

I think Henry could be a good player for us when he isn't playing the 5. He will be quicker than most other 4s and will be a big help rebounding from the 4 spot. Wilson would be the least impact to lose I feel like.

I seriously doubt Henry is going anywhere.

Buzz has basically said as much when he has talked about Henry knowing his future is not professional basketball and his (Henry) being comfortable with that.

A guy with 1yr remaining eligibility who knows his future is not in basketball, but likely needs the scholarship money, isn't going anywhere.

He played high school at Roxboro Pearson High School and I think had some player of the year recognition in the local Raleigh/Durham papers.

His father (also Tyrone Outlaw) played for Roxboro Pearson in the late 90's when I was in school in Durham. Best basketball play I ever was when Pearson was playing Jordan High School in Durham. Jordan had Courtney Alexander at the time, Pearson was Tyrone Outlaw Sr. and Jamie Barnette (Played QB at NC State). Anyway, 1 second left, Pearson is down by one, Barnette throws a full court alley-oop to Outlaw from the baseline out of bounds under the basket and they won the game. I've never seen a better play since.

A full court alley-oop? That I would like to see.

Is he not basically Adam Smith offensively? I have not heard the level of his defensive abilities but I saw him a few years ago as a freshman and was impressed with his shooting. I believe a good get if true.

He is most definitely not Adam Smith.

He has a similar game to Chris Clarke, but is a little thicker, probably not as bouncy, and probably not as active as a rebounder.

He looks like a Buzz player...6'6" ish, athletic, can run, and play defense

This is exactly why I don't follow recruiting.

Well, we should have a really good idea whether or not this has any legs around mid-November.

I heard he is enrolling at the same time and rooming with Drew Harris

TSL brought up a good point: Exams are over, combining that with this "announcement" probably means someone didn't make grades.

I hear Marquie Cooke may be leaving.

Source or just an opinion?

#Sources (and I hate pound signs/hashtags/twattercrap). Both are in the same boat, that they are full up on scholarships, but apparently that may not matter.
