The Miracle in Morgantown is one of the greatest moments in VT football and my personal favorite. The games felt kind of dirty but I thought they had a similar feel to the Ravens Steelers rivalry has now. It's kind of cool to say that we hold the Black Diamond trophy but it really looses it's meaning since we haven't played them since 2005. Also they could really improve out strength of schedule if we played WVU instead of teams like Western Carolina, ECU, Marshall, William & Mary, Furman, Liberty, ODU, etc. Also, let's be serious a 1:30 kickoff is still a joke. Weaver is either really out of touch with the fan base, or maybe he gets grumpy if he doesn't get to bed by 7.

I get that playing WVU would improve our SoS, and "dirty" isn't necessarily terrible, as long as it stays on the field, but the stories I've heard are terrible, not worth ever going back.
I'm sure you've heard the stories of batteries, coins and beer bottles being thrown at players and opposing fans... years ago, word was we were never going back until things changed. And I am ok with that.
And I was still being somewhat sarcastic about the 1:30 games. First off, every game now is televised (ESPN3 streaming is included in "televised"), and ESPN has full control over game times. Weaver doesn't get to "pick" when kickoff is going to be.

The owner of Bristol Motor Speedway wanted to have an event called "The Battle of Bristol" where The middle of the track would be turned into a football field and feature the Bristol rivalry of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Both schools were offered a great sum but Tennessee wouldn't accept (too scared).
It would have been pretty fantastic since I live 10 minutes from the track.
Oh well, the 2009 Chick-Fil-A bowl made up for that ;)

Weaver does have input on game times such as Austin Peay last year. if you listen to him on TTL he reiterates every year that "non-televised" games will all be played at 1:30 (his descresion) to give fans an extra hour and a half to travel to the games.
I can't make this stuff up!

to be completely fair he did survey season ticket holders
and that was the consensus "best start" time that the ticket holders chose. yeah, it's an awkward time and yeah it does suck but that is what the fans wanted... unlike the no thursday night game decision, to thank the fans, at his own discretion.

It's Beamer who doesn't want to play WVU anymore. I was speaking with Vegas Robinson one time at a tailgate (he was #6 for the Hokies back at the end of our Big Least days) and he said that during pre-game stretching and things like that, a fan threw a HELMET at him. A mining helmet. Yes. A mining helmet. Vegas was captain for that game as well. He said that Coach Wiles told them that all of the captains need to put their helmets on as they went for the coin toss. Vegas asked why, and sure enough, after he put his helmet on, a battery hit him on the head.

People complain about Monday night Labor Day Game - Weaver Cancels Thursday night game
WVU wants to play us again - Weaver schedules a long term series with East Carolina
No TV, so VT sets the kickoff time - Weaver insists they all be played at 1:30
2 Things:
1 - I don't want to play WVU again. I'm glad that series is over.
2 - 1:30 is better than noon...
I want to play WVU again

I do too
the fact that it would make your stomach turn over if you lost to them is a sign you should play them.
Football, as in love, is a nothing ventured-nothing gained enterprise. ECU is nothing ventured. A decade+ of ECU is castration.
This is poetry.
Awesome
Woah, woah, simmer down

we should just do a neutral site game with them. Another battle for the trophie.
Could work
Too bad it'll piss off half the fan base, the ones who hate that we play so many neutral-site games as it is...
do it every year at fedex field, shit would sell out in 5 minutes
NEVER PLAY ANYTHING AT FEDEX AGAIN. THAT PLACE IS NOTHING BUT BAD JUJU FOR US.
Yet another reason why I root against the deadskins.
This. x 1000
This.

Better Rivalry
I would much rather see us start an annual rivalry game with Tennessee than revive the one with West Virginia.
BMS
It would be epic if someone figured out a way to stage that football game in Bristol Motor Speedway
Bruton Smith already had it planned
But that was before he upgraded the infield. I think part of it was that he was going to do the upgrades after the football game.
Though, if we became interested, I'm sure he'd put the money up again.
The were talks of...

Can you imagine a race going on with the football game in the middle? It'd be like the Grail for rednecks.
They're making a left turn!!!
Oh, wow, one of the cars just flipped into the endzone! I wonder what's gonna happen next!
Well done, good sir.

I guess I always miss those nights. That would make sense, as 1:30 is such an awkward time anyway.

So I'm guessing the only choices he gave to the fans were either 12 or 1:30!!!
Urine
Don't forget ziploc bags of urine. Despite this I would be pro rekindling the rivalry.
