VT has sent out two offers out to LB's in Illinois...

I think the 6 hour radius is growing. Aaron Moorehead connections perhaps?

Most likely Moorehead...

I can't imagine there are any other major connections out there.

From my year of living in the suburbs of Chicago, I never really heard anything about local high school football. It doesn't seem that big out there, at least not as big as the 757, where I grew up.

How good are these guys supposed to be?

The 6 hr radius is growing because the new coaches drive faster than the old timers :)

While that may be part of it...

In the year I was living out there near Chicago, I made the drive to Blacksburg 3 times: 2 football games, and one job interview in Christiansburg.

I made the drive in 10 hours. Google says it is 11 hours. I somehow doubt they're driving the 130+ that would be required to make it 6 hours (though there are definitely some areas of the trip where they physically could... there's NOTHING through most of Indiana and Ohio)

Indiana and Ohio are beyond boring. I made it this past Summer, there are cornfields as far as you can see.

Rip his freaking head off!

Cornfields may be boring but you know what they produce? Big ole nasty corn fed country boys. Those boys grow up to be big ole nasty O linemen for Grimes to teach how to break the will of the opposition. We NEED those cornfields.

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior" Stephen M.R. Covey

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

Corn also produces moonshine, which is right up there with big nasty O lineman.

Worst part was the roads

They're just so depressingly straight... go around a bend, and suddenly I see the boringness I'm going to drive through for the next 10 miles...

After years of driving from VA to IA

I can attest to the fact that the worst 8 hours of the trip was always the stretch from Indianapolis to the Mississippi river, esp. IL. Indiana was at least nice green famland. Illinois was just long stretches of boredom punctuated with areas of mind-numbing nothingness. If you get one of these kids that has decent talent, one trip to Blacksburg in the spring or fall will go a long way toward convincing them that it's a beautiful place.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

There's a huge difference

These two kids are from Chicagoland, far from the "mind-numbing nothingness" you drive through on the way to Iowa. Though, SWVA is still a much more beautiful place than anywhere I ever went in IL (aside from possibly downtown Chicago, but that's not really a fair comparison given the stark contrast there).

I've been to Chitown

I was not impressed. But hey, I'm a country boy at heart.

Hopefully the even-further-north climate and lake effect snows are something that these kids want to escape. (Not that Tech doesn't see its share of the white stuff).

Yeah, but...

We've got #beachflow

Maybe the coaching staff is trying to start establishing some relationships in the midwest in anticipation of Notre Dame "joining" the ACC.

Clifton Garrett is one of the offers, but it sounds like Tech has to make up some ground with him.

Hmmmmm.....

Ole Miss.

dolla dolla bill y'all

Can't land them until you offer them...

They seemed at least semi-excited about the offer on twitter.

I agree. If we offer enough of these kids late in the process, maybe it yields one stud to go along with the rest of the class that's probably been recruited for the last 3-4 years.
