Hey Joe,
To tide us over the summer (and to better help prepare us gear up for our season opener) - perhaps you and the rest of the staff can breakdown anOSU's nice run in the play offs (or season)? I'd like to see how they beat up on that vaunted Bama D in detail, and how they crushed Whisky and shut down their excellent ground game. It'll be helpfull for us lay folks to get a sense of what they did and how they might do it against us. Thanks!

Agreed.
The Big 10 championship game was on Big Ten Network the other day and... it was essentially just playing 8-9 guys in the box and winning the battle at the line of scrimmage. Wisconsin had no passing game to speak of (nobody Doran Grant and Vonn Bell couldn't handle), Bosa, Bennett, and Adolphus Washington played their best game all year, and OSU just dominated the line of scrimmage.
This sounds shockingly similar to what we did to them.
From different defensive formations, but yeah. They essentially ran a 4-4 with a safety walked up as an edge defender. And generally with one high safety. Sound familiar? It looked very much like an "old school" Bud Foster defense.
Interestingly enough - the way Bud played his D against OSU is exactly how I play it against the CPU.
Since A = B = C in the sports world, I am therefore a younger version of Bud Foster. Minus the 'Stache.
Can't be.
Bud Foster is timeless.
Foster is life
Would rather talk about the latest Jeopardy winner.
Oh yeah, did he shut down one of the most prolific offenses in the country?
Didn't think so.
I'm pretty sure eleven warriors has an excellent write up about those games.
I've been to that site so often now, Google thinks i'm an OSU fan.
I just spent the better part of my "staycation" watching Michigan State and Alabama take on Ohio State from last season, and I have put together a couple of subtle changes that the Buckeyes used on offense to be more effective than they were against VT. However, the biggest takeaway for me is that the Spartans and the Tide didn't pay attention to the lessons from the VT game. The column is in the editing process and should be published soon.
I know this is incredibly short notice but it'd be awesome for there to be either a Q&A with Jon Laaser or have him as a guest on a preseason edition of the Key Podcast. Either way I'm sure the site will continue doing great things. Not trying to tell anyone how to do their job...
