Would you have taken them up on that offer?
Yeah, this is dumb. But it's the offseason.
I would have taken it. I have trust in Bud and Torrian to find/develop a replacement rover. A talent like Settle comes along maybe once a decade.

I wouldn't have taken it. Don't get me wrong I think Tim Settle is an incredible talent, but it doesn't seem as though he will be needed for a year or two. That would have given us time to find a replacement through recruiting, maybe. With CJ gone, we are in scramble mode.
Is it just me or do this (animated) kid's eyes seem wider when he looks at Woody than the dirty mag?
I see a kid with a Playboy in one hand and Woody in the other.
And I am moving right along now.
How are Tim's dancing skills??
Finally. Someone's asking the hard questions. The ones we really want to know.
I would take the proven contributor over the highly touted recruiticorn...
me too :( back to crying
I would take best recruit we've landed in a long-ass time in a position where we've faltered continuously over a position who we spot and land talent for ALL the time.
If the question is for next year only, I agree. But over the long term, I'll take Tim.
Regardless, we shouldn't have lost Reavis and it SUCKS.
The use of the word "recruiticorn" will always garner a chuckle and a leg from me.
No, Settle would have likely prepped and ended here in a year. Reavis is gone, gone and gone.
And we still need to make sure we keep Settle, like any other kid, actually in school during his eligibility. I doubt that a kid who barely qualifies actually has more trouble than his teammates at staying eligible, those are likely the kids that the academic infrastructure is most focused to support. But, still, just because a kid qualifies doesn't really mean that much. He has to actually contribute, and Reavis was ready to do that.
(Of note, I would consider us equally deep at both positions)
You win and lose the game in the trenches. If you win the LOS, you win the game, and having elite defensive linemen will go a very long way in this battle. Not saying having elite playmakers in the secondary isn't important, but I'll take an elite lineman over an elite back any day of the week.
My only objection to this is Kyle Fuller vs Georgia Tech 2013.
I'd almost say that helps prove it. He was so dominating that game, because we essentially put him on the line to disrupt everything in the backfield and completely flipped the LOS advantage in our favor.
Couldn't agree any more. Same thing on O.... if you have no o-line, you have no QB, RB, or WR's. And yes, the likes of Vicks and Tyrods will disagree, but those are once in a decade type talents, well Vick.... he's once in a lifetime.
Reavis. Settle will probably do more for VT over the course of his career, but the 2015 defense has a chance the be the single best unit VT has ever seen if healthy. That's something I'd want a chance at
wait... you're saying it didn't happen like this?
I like to think it was some Faustian deal with the Devil. "You get Settle, but the next player to get in trouble is gone." We just didn't realize who it was going to be. Those deals always come back to bite you.
So someone said "Nick Saban" three times.
If we say it 3 more times will he go away like Beetlejuice?
SHHHH!! You've said that name! Now all it takes is for someone to say Beetlejuice two more times.... DAMN IT! Only one more time now.
I think Settle. Stonewall Jackson FTW
Purely from a depth standpoint, yes it would be a huge talent loss, but we could've afforded to lose Tim vs CJ. A lot of depth at DT, not so much at rover.
I'm just glad we've still got one of the two, even if I wish we still had both.
I choose both.
I'm still holding out some crazy hope that Reavis' appeal will go through or his dismissal was only for a semester and he will be there in August.
I keep my Orange and Maroon glasses on and continue drinking the kool-aid until reality violently rips them off my face and pumps my stomach.
Semester dismissals don't count summer sessions, so at best he is back in Jan if it's one semester.
Damn you reality!!!
Totally reminds me of this dank meme
Is that Polanball VT style?
Spring MVP taking over a position vacated by two seniors or an unproven recruit who has no chance of breaking the starting lineup on our most stacked position... Not that hard
Yes... in a heartbeat. We have a track record for developing and recruiting DB's. We haven't had the same luck with DT and especially the potential/caliber of Settle's.
avtfan and HokieStoned provide the entirety of the argument in those last 2 comments. Man, that's tough. Personally, I'd rather be hit in the nuts repeatedly by a fire engine's ladder than have to make that choice. Is that still an option?
I mean... I can get a fire engine...
I'd pay $10 to see that...
Joe, I think we've found the next TKP fundraiser
