Basketball Schedule?

Anyone know of any teams we are playing next year? My friend read on a blog that we are possibly playing Radford. Anyone know if this is true?

Wouldn't be surprising. We play them a lot just because they're so close and still an easy win.

Rip his freaking head off!

True. I know we didn't play for a while due to Greenberg vs Greenberg.

Don't quote me on this, but one of my friends went to a meeting with the head of basketball operations and he claims we're playing Michigan State and VCU. I'm not sure if he said next year or maybe in the future, but these are just some of the rumblings I've heard.

Those are two teams I've also heard mentioned. I think the Radford rumor going around is just a rumor though.

How awesome would it be to beat VCU? They claim to be the best basketball team in the state (and they probably are) but its time they prove it.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

aint no probably about it. they are the best team in the state. we are a fairly distant third.

I think UVA would play them pretty hard, especially earlier in the season. VCU seems to play better ball late in the season. It should be a fun game and a fun opponent regardless.

That may be a bit generous...

A look at the RPI of all teams in Virginia:

#24 VCU
#76 UVA
#92 Richmond
#162 George Mason
#177 Virginia Tech
#178 Norfolk State
#182 JMU
#271 William and Mary
#287 Hampton
#288 Liberty
#302 VMI
#316 Radford
#318 ODU
#332 Longwood

While the RPI isn't the most reliable of measures, there is a pretty clear gap between us and the top 3, and we are in a pretty tight group of 4 teams with a large gap over the next group, meaning somewhere between 4th and 7th in the state.

But VCU is hands down the best team in Virginia right now.

sheesh, way to bum me out bro

5th? smh

Hey, at least we're leaps and bounds better than Radford...

Is that REALLY something you want to hang your hat on???

Not much else to hang your hat on...

Tech also had a higher RPI than my Alma Mater, that actually made the tournament (or at least made it to a play in game)

I've seen a fair amount of VCU games in person the past couple years due to moving bacn to Richmond after graduation... VCU is going to be scary next year because they return the majority of their team. They lose their PG and best glue guy (Theus) plus their best shooter (Daniels), but they have a lot of talent to replace them as some guys redshirted and they have a solid class incoming.

But yeah, VCU is going to be the best team in the state for the foreseeable future - the best way to beat them is having 2 or 3 capable ball handlers to break the press and get easy layups + wide open shots. That's going to be a question mark for VT next year, as I'm not sure we'll have enough firepower to handle the press and capitalize on open shots.

For the blueprint to beating VCU, look no further than the tournament game this year against Michigan. They were a terrible matchup for VCU and just destroyed the press to give McGary easy buckets, as well as draining open threes all over the place.

I don't think VT has the ball-handlers that Michigan has. With Green and Brown gone, all they have is Rankin. I don't know about the incoming class, maybe some good guards will help out. But I'm pretty sure VT will have a very hard time with VCU. Unfortunately, I would predict that VT will more likely mimic Akron than Michigan.

I agree having a solid guard is crucial if you want to play against VCU. But the Michigan game was a bad game for VCU. Daniels couldn't make a shot to save his life and the team needed Theus to step up in that game.

We play WVU in Blacksburg next year.

I love Virginia Tech, regardless of the outcome of every game.

Well, we'll have a chance for a couple of strong non-conference wins.

A chance? like one out of a million?
