He's a country guy, and to me, they all sound the same. I don't know any of his songs either, but I think I'm still going for some reason. It's all about the atmosphere for me that weekend

He's a pretty good country music singer. Does a lot of fun (and clean) songs (likes a little word play sometimes). Kind of an easy going singer, not many "rocking" songs.

Yeah Red Solo Cup is pretty terrible although I think there are worse. At least Red Solo Cup is meant to be a bad/silly song.

I've come here to voice my strong feelings as to why I enjoy and/or dislike country music. I do not realize everyone has different tastes. I feel the need to criticize every little thing that does not conform to my personal tastes in an attempt to justify said tastes. I do not accept that music, or which sports I enjoy watching (soccer, nascar,...) is a purely subjective decision. This it the internet. I'm right, you're wrong.
But can we both come to a mutual agreement that we support our local sports and/or community organization?

maybe 10 students, 60 townies and 200 chevies and of course the hag.
that was after I helped move my best friend and his gf to las cruces, nm and drove back.
the short, drove straight there (alternated driving) in a 100 heat, no AC in the 25' moving truck. offered coke at 2am in Dallas. saw a caged tiger, 2 dead horses and multiple dirt devil's in sw texas. went to 2 mlb games (was hammered for the cincy/cards game by the 3rd inning), 1 strip club with a rosie perez look a like, found out roswell, nm is a south of the border jip joint for nm/texas, saw a missile test over white sands, graced graceland, beale street and might have liberated a few street signs along the way with said truck.

I saw Junior Brown when he played the Lyric. One of the better concerts I've been to.
I helped carry Beat Farmer's Lead Singer Country Dick Montana from stage dive to bar opposite stage for a shot of wiskey at the 930 Club.
I won't call it Country, but its the closest I've ever been to seeing a country concert.

I was at that show too, believe it or not. Amazing how his drummer could get so much sound out of that barebones kit.
Junior Brown was my first concert when I was 11. Now he could play a guit-steel! The drummer played only a snare with brushes.
Saw Junior at the Lyric several years ago. I was, and am still....WOWed.
I saw Ludacris at Tech somewhere within 2002-04 (my college memories are a blur). A girl standing next to me threw up on me.
I guess that night was a blur for her, too.
I want to say 2004, I was at that one, too.
Also saw 311, Black Eye Peas, Lil Jon, Hoobastank, and a Bob Saget standup while I was there. One of my friends also dragged me to a Rascal Flatts concert in Salem, which was more than slightly unbearable.
I still talk about the Bob Saget/Mark Curry show to friends who don't believe how dirty Bob Saget's stand up persona is.
311 was a great show too. I was walking to class earlier in the day and they were hanging out between Burress and Randolph in lawn chairs. Cool dudes, of course.
Bob Saget isn't nearly as funny when you are expecting the crudeness... Watched a standup special of his on Netflix with my wife last year and, it was pretty terrible. His entire routine is essentially based on the "OMG, I can't believe Danny Tanner would say that". Once that initial shock wears off, it stops being funny real fast.
Truth. I watched that same special. Turned it off midway through.
Saw Ludacris, 311 as well. Missed bob saget tho. A couple friends of mine were chilling with him at Sharkey's afterwards.
To be fair to her, Ludacris' crappy Hallmark Card flow can have that effect on people. To quote Snoop Dog, "Are you a rapper or Dr. Suess?"
We saw Blues Traveler play Burruss Hall late 2001. Maybe a few weeks after 9/11? Anyway, John Popper opened the show with a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner on harmonica that will in my mind forever rival Jimi Hendrix's national anthem performance at Woodstock for sheer American badassery.
Anyway, there was this girl at the concert...to this day we call her the Swayer. Whatever she was on, she was dancing to a whole different music than what was being played onstage. Arms in the air, unceasing lateral movement whether standing still or moving, and just plain bowling people out of the way if she wanted to be dancing where you were standing.
Good times.
I was at that Blues Traveler show, can't believe it was 14 years ago. My worst concert at Burruss though was Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. The band was awesome, but I was sick and just wanted to go home and go to bed, and they played forrrrrreeeeeeevvvvver. Seriously, I think it was a 16 hour concert.
Two years before I turned 50. In my time, it was, in no particular order, Rod Stewart, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, early Fleetwood Mac, Leon Russell, well, the list goes on. One of the only perks of being old is having gone to some really memorable concerts. And still, I agree. "suck it millennials"!

I don't really know Brad Paisley, but I have heard of him. Most highly successful country artists are pretty good, and the concert is free, so I think it's a seriously nice gesture on his part, and should be a lot of fun for the people there!
I like to think of myself as someone who can enjoy any genre of music at least somewhat. That being said, I've seen Paisley in concert previously. He puts on a really good show, even if you're not that into country music as a whole. An excellent guitarist with a good lights-and-sound crew. I'm not sure how much setup they'll be doing for this one, but I'll be going regardless (free doesn't hurt).
I think the important question is... IS THERE NOW A ZAXBY'S IN BLACKSBURG????

Zaxby's is good Chicken. Legitimately my fourth-favorite behind Church's, Popeye's and Bojangles.

Their spicy chicken and biscuits are a weakness of mine.
Also, there are basically two divisions of that chain: the locations in and around Nashville, and those everywhere else. The latter are good, the former are great.
I've only been to ones around Houston. I'd take 2 day old soggy KFC over the Church's down there.

I am excited for it. I like country music so that helps. Brad is a great guy and will make it a good time. His music definitely has a twang to it. Eric Paslay is another country singer who is pretty new to the scene. He has 1 or 2 songs out now.
I am bummed it is in the Cassel lot and not a bigger area.

Not sure who or how they evaluated it, but the number they were given is around 40,000. Granted that is a standing room only estimate, as people are being asked not to bring lawn chairs or coolers.
It could be huge, and I would not be surprised if we see a push from WVU students/alumni to flood Blacksburg for this. Those guys absolutely invaded Pittsburgh for a Kenny Chesney concert earlier this year (leaving the city absolutely trashed in the process) so I could see it happening.
How could they tell if Pittsburgh was trashed?

Honestly, many of the residents were surprised the city allowed him to come back after how much the out of towners trashed Heinz Field and the surrounding area the last time
I'm not really a country fan, but I've been to lots of country concerts. They're always fun.
I just saw him in Charlotte a few months ago and he puts on a great show.
I wont be there Sunday, but I will be there Monday afternoon with a bottle of bourbon and a can-do attitude.
I just put together a small playlist of the songs I think best represent Brad Paisley's music. I listen to his music regularly, and generally like his stuff. He tries to be politically aware, has fun with wordplay, and is an immensely talented guitar player. He also makes it a point to be respectful of "old country", and continue those traditions in the context of the modern day.
Hope you enjoy. Wish I could be in Blacksburg with a bottle of bourbon and my fellow Hokies on September 6 & 7.

When it comes to country I'm much more of a George Strait/Alan Jackson fan, the "new traditional" stuff. Personally I think most new country is a genre that has lost its identity and started catering to too many tastes. When I can't tell if I'm listening to rap, rock, or country, there's a problem. That's just like....my opinion, man.
That being said, I'll probably go. It's free and what the heck else is there to do in Blacksburg on a Sunday night.
