All I need to know about the VT WRs this year is that I'm hearing they're starting to beat our DBs in practice. Considering who we have in our secondary this year, this makes me salivate.

Surprisingly, Carroll, a 5-foot-7, 161-pound redshirt freshman walk-on who was a high school teammate of Kendall Fuller at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland, has opened some eyes, taking a page from the Willie Byrn playbook in the slot.
"Absolutely he has a role," Burden said. "He's developing. He's coming along. He's making plays in practice. When you have a guy doing those kind of things in practice, competing and executing to a high level, then you have no choice but to put him in the game. And that's where he is right now."

Mine died before I was born, but your grandma should have taught you early...big things come in small packages. Plus, this is college, not the pros. There's a place for him., and I'm glad it's with us, from the sound of things.

I hate that douche canoe. So good to see him flame out this week. Apparently he didn't go all out in practice and the Steelers decided he wasn't worth keeping through his second injury.

Call me crazy, but I think this is the year. We finally get a 1000 yard receiver. Ford is just gonna kill it, and with him putting on 16 pounds, one of his issues from last year is solved. Bucky will get more TDs though I predict.

I doubt he'll get 1000 this year. There's just too many targets and not enough passes to go around. Between Ford, Phillips, Hodges, Malleck, Cline, Rogers, and our 3rd & 4th receivers I just don't see any single one getting 1000 yards this year.

It would be nice in a way, but I would rather the passes get spread around, keeping the other team guessing. I think it would be better to have 3 receivers with 600-700 yards than a single one with 1000.

I look for Knowles to contribute this season. A lot of people closed the book on his last year, which I thought was odd when it was revealed it was an ankle injury that was hobbling him. That's a debilitating injury for a speed guy.

It just seems that every year we hear that Knowles is gonna put it all together. For a variety of reasons, none of those predictions has borne fruit. Add in his abysmal performance in the return game (highlighted by whatever that was against UVA last season) and there ya go.
I do really hope this is the year it all comes together........but again, I've said and heard that before

I don't know about putting it all together. I don't think Knowles will ever be the X receiver in our system. But his 2013 performance was enough to show that he could definitely be a Dyrell Roberts type player, never the feature receiver but someone who can come through with a spectacular play when needed. He lost his speed, and therefore his game, last season, but if he's healthy there's no reason to think he won't be a viable third option at receiver.

Dmitri Knowles, 2013 (13 games played, 6 starts): 45 catches, 641 yards (14.2ypc), 3 TD's; 4 rushes 23 yards
Everyone loves what Phillips did last year, probably because he was a true freshman and has good hands. Everyone dismisses what Knowles did as a r-Soph probably because he drops passes and is terrible on KO returns.
Willie Byrn had 51 and 47 catches the last two years, those catches have to go somewhere. I think Knowles tops 30 catches this year and could be a big ypc receiver.

Agreed. His speed is lethal and if he's improved from 2013 (and it's hard for me to think he hasn't) he would be a tremendous asset.
Also to clarify from above, I wasn't saying that I thought he was bad, more saying why I think other people think he's bad. Other than the return game....that I will say he's not suited for.

Oh, I agree. I was just commenting on the above comment about how every year there's talk that he's going to break out and how that was similar to Marcus Davis in that every year was supposed to be 'his year'. Personally, I like Knowles and I hope that he goes out with a really big year.
