How can Miami fans be overrated? They're constantly called out as being the worst fair weather fans in all of sports

They actually have a fan base?
Writer must be over 40 and remember da U when their stuff was more prevalent.

I think he just watched a few too many 30 for 30s

the requirements for being a current Miami fan are to show up at games dressed as stadium seats

Totally agree with #1. There is a lady in my office who only likes
them because of their mascot. She doesn't know anything about
them otherwise. Seriously?1?!?!?!? She even has a mouse pad and
t-shirts but she never watches their games or anything. Ugh!!

@AMB4VT

I know that lady. She's the one who wins the NCAA tourney pool every year by picking winners based on uniform colors.

Leonard. Duh.

Every now and then you meet someone who takes being a bandwagon fan to a whole new level.

Reminds me of someone I knew who liked to call herself a Steelers fan and brag about them being good. Then come January of 2011 she tells us she didn't watch any of their playoff run or the super bowl where they played the packers. Why are you talking smack and calling yourself a fan if you don't even watch "your team" play in the super bowl? People who don't even know one thing about football will watch the super bowl. Cmon man!

I've been called a bandwagon Steelers fan all my life. Those people didn't see me crying as a child when they kept losing in the AFC Championship game. Thanks for bringing up that Packers game, really great memories, came home from watching the game and got in a screaming fight with my brother because he took my Big Ben jersey.

Still pretty funny though.

Why do people care about the Washington Redskins' name but not the Tomahawk Chop? Probably because they know FSU will be back to being mediocre in a few years and it's not worth the trouble

not to nitpick here...but if mediocrity were the cure for controversy people wouldn't care about the Redskins' name either....

Awfully generous to call the Redskins mediocre.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

That's not fair... they are excellent at being irrelevant.

In fact, I think the controversy started, not because the team has that nickname, but because that team has the nickname.

I'm compelled to hop in, FSU hate notwithstanding, but the Seminole nation fully supports FSU, the tomahawk chop, the horse, the flaming spear... the works.

And for any history majors (or those with interest in history) out there...the Seminoles are considered the ONLY unconquered tribe of the native peoples in America. They never gave up, and signed a peace treaty in the 1950's. I have a lot of respect for that. And the "Unconquered" statue outside of Doak, which celebrates the tenacity of the tribe, as well as the accomplishment of the football team, which I have to say, is waaay cool in so many ways:

Deep thinking? OK...Guilty as charged.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

I sort of thought this was more mean than funny, and it wasn't about fan bases that were overrated, but rather fan bases that overrate their team.

To which I would respond that Florida State has a recent National Championship.

I don't think FSU fans bother me so much as the War Chant ad nauseam during their games.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

It is great to mock them, though. Which is nice.

The Dude Abides

ahh..yess, the ever-enjoyable toma-mock chop

You could add Brewer to your sig line. Motley had a few snaps in last years game. Sam Rodgers completed a pass in 2013.

The war chant is the college football equivalent of a vuvuzela.

I would love to not watch USCw vs FSU because they'd finally have competition for the most inane in-game experience.

I do enjoy the Trojan's fight song and of course, those Song Girls. Had I gone to the '04 game, I'm sure I'd be a bit more sour on the program.

The problem with the war-chant is that it's done even during the other teams success on the field. If FSU takes a sack on 1st down the war-chant continues. It's like they are trying to motivate their team through painful play on the field.

This should have been titled Teams with the Worst Fans.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

He would have had to include the Cousins in that case.

I sat next to a group of FSU fans at the ACC Champtionship in 2005, and it was the worst. Before the game they were "aww shucks Virginia Tech will win and we're just happy to be here" but when FSU took a 20+ pt lead in the 3rd quarter (before the Hokies battled back) we were now sitting next to a group of super fans screaming in our faces like bath-salt riddled crazies.

The highlight of that game was FSU's male baton twirler in full leotard during halftime.

Hey now!

Stuck next to a bevy of FSU fans for the 1999 Sugar Bowl game. Obnoxious jerks would be a compliment to that crowd. Shoulda heard them whining going toward the end of the 3rd quarter, shoulda heard them trying to rub it in in the 4th. A-holes each and every one of them. My wife, usually the supreme voice of restraint and reason finally snapped and gave them a piece of her mind. Not worth losing the game, mind you, but certainly a highlight of my football game memories.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

I work with a handful of FSU grads... they can be cocky and mostly use the "everyone hates us cuz they ain't us" mentality, but I don't necessarily think their entire fanbase is that way.

Every fanbase has a group of bad apples... some more than others, but for the most part, generalizing about college football fanbases is silly.

The only difference I would say is... with Miami, everyone else abandoned ship, so the only ones left are the overly annoying ones

No way Oklahoma should be on that list. They have a great fan base. Sell's out every year. I have two OU friends in NC. One will drive to Oklahoma without a ticket for the games against cup-cakes because that gives him the best chance to get tickets, and the other is desperately trying to get is wife to agree to spend their 20th anniversary at the Red River Rivalry game. Even tried bribing her with going to the Patriots game the next day when he hates them. they will both travel to the Cousins because its close. Their some of the few people in NC I know that are passionate enough about college football to want to talk recruiting ff season.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I agree.
