Day 12 Snap Chat Observations

VT Football's Snapchat has moved to sideline level filming, which makes it much more difficult to get anything of value in terms of full personnel groupings or formation. I have a feeling that the coaching staff has made some decisions about their personnel depth chart and have transitioned into game plan development and practice for Ohio State. Some quick observations:

1) This snapchat is the first time I have seen Kyle Chung take a rep since he was in high school. He didn't disappoint. He had a knockdown block that opened up a cutback lane in team work, and he absolutely dominated his rep in pass protection drills. He had great balance and didn't get overextended. Coach Searels has been complimentary of Chung in interviews. Now I see why. He not only gives the Hokies a solid #2 center; he can also give them additional depth at guard as a 6'4, 290 pounder.

2) There was only two team reps with the first group. Parker Osterloh was in one repetition. Wyatt Teller got the other rep with the ones. Teller also had reps with the second group. Teller had a knockdown block and a strong block on a linebacker in two of the three reps. In pass pro Woody Baron beat Teller with an outside hand slap, but got a little outside of his lane that could have opened up some scramble room. Getting out of your lane as a defensive tackle can spell doom against a mobile QB (see CJ Brown, 2013.)

3) Jack Willenbrock was working as a blocking tight end with some of the second groups. He is playing in number 55.

4) Kevin Asante did a nice job of working to a soft spot in the zone in the back of the endzone for a touchdown in 7 on 7 work. Asante's pattern developed when a short crossing route pulled Ronny Van Dyke out of the underneath zone. I know Loeffler has his detractors, however route structure in the passing game isn't one of them. Also, I noted again how smooth Shai McKenzie looks coming out of the backfield as a pass receiver.

I love reading your snap chat observations French!

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

I wish I had more to share. There were not many reps, and the angle made it next to impossible to see formation or anything on the back side. It sounded like Sobczak did something good, but you can't see him on the video. The coach just yelled goodness.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Me too! As soon as I watch it I head over here to understand what I just saw.

The OL development you mention in these reviews seems very encouraging. Working against arguably the best DL in the nation every day is getting these guys ready! Props to you and our coaching staff!!!

Think that's intentional?
