There isn't any team work today on Snap Chat. In group work, the offensive line starters are:
LT: McLaughlin
LG: Teller (Praise the Lord)
C: Gallo
RG: Conte
RT: Osterloh
2's were-
LT: Nijman
LG: Alston Smith
C: Chung
RG: Pfaff
RT: Hansen (no blue jersey.)
In pass protection match-ups versus the defensive line, Woody Baron completely undressed Eric Gallo with a swim move. Wyatt Teller put Ricky Walker on the ground when he tried a spin move. Jonathan McLaughlin was able to shield Seth Dooley, but let Dooley get into his body and didn't get any extension. I'd like to see McLaughlin initiate contact and then float back rather than letting the defensive end get into his body.
Wade Hansen won a rep against Dadi Nicolas. Nicolas tried a rip move and didn't use his hands. Hansen ran him to the outside.
Again, I don't think we will see anything having to do with game planning for the next two weeks. I will cut back these updates and work on our preview material.

I don't know if I like hearing that Dadi didn't beat Hansen, especially without using his hand. Sounds like that wrapped up hand is really hurting him.
Dude, it is one rep.
How about Hansen improving a lot since last fall and maybe he'll have a solid season.
Spring game- Hansen looked to me to do very well vs. Dadi

Also, you could hear Foster say at the end that they will have an "Ohio State" scrimmage on Friday.
Ohio State scrimmage? Guess that means we can expect there to be pizza?

I would like to see Baron in the game often in third & long situations and two minute defense. He is very tough to handle in pass pro.
I expected that from him right out of high school. He was an incredibly productive defensive end in high school. He hasn't produce as much with his pass rush as I expected. If he can add the pass rush to his game, it is a huge plus.
If Hansen or McLaughlin went out, do you think Osterloh would replace him or would Conte move over with Osterloh taking his spot?
If he has some snaps under his belt, I think Nijman may be an option too.
Didn't someone say not long ago that Nijman's exclusively a left tackle?
McLaughlin could swing back to RT if Nijman came in. If he's ready to play this year it definitely gives the coaches more to work with
Yessir.
If Hansen went out, I am guessing that the choice is Osterloh at RT, or McLaughlin at RT and Nijman at LT. They aren't playing Osterloh at LT.
It looks like Osterloh may have actually earned himself some bona fide playing time. If that's the case, I'm pretty happy about this. Dude's a monster, worked his tail off to drop weight over the summer and get quicker, and by all accounts played very well at guard after Teller's mysterious demotion. Good for him pushing to be on the field.
Also if true and he stays at RT, it would mean or entire offensive line could return next year. If we are already feeling better than normal about our line, just think about that

I like it!
I am actually starting to get excited about our OL.!
For the first time in years it seems we may have an OL that is not a liability and it is great to hear that there is some quality depth beginning to emerge as well.
It's still only pre season and it remains to be seen how things go in a real game, BUT it is great to be seeing and hearing good things about the OL for a change!
GO HOKIES!!!
I got lucky enough to get to spend a few minutes with Shane Beamer and watch some practice today.
Regarding the O-Line, Shane said that SS wants to know he has 6 or 7 guys that are game ready, but now that they are in OSU prep mode and will tighten things up. At practice, Teller ran every play I watched with the 1's. It looked like Hansen was back in there as well.
In the handful of plays I watched the offense run, two things were fairly obvious. No one on the 2's can stop Ford, and Rogers may very well play every position on the offense except center.
Shai was not even running warm up sprints with the rest of the team, and I didn't see him take any live reps, so they may be holding him out while in game mode.
Last interesting note - Lawson was running with the scout team wearing a #16, I assume to mimic JT.
Good info, thanks for that!
Did you ask Shane how he's going to handle the running back rotation?
No - I figured it would be a completely coach speak answer since it's asked so often. I will say that during live practice, reps were given in the order of JC, Trey and McMillian.
Makes sense. Hopefully the over rotating lesson has been learned. As much as I love JC, I feel like Trey is going to pass him up at some point this year.
The next 11 days can't go by fast enough...
Shai not running warm up sprints make a bit of sense to me. He is suspended for the OSU game and coming off the knee surgery. Since he won't be playing, no need to keep pounding it now that camp is over. I would guess he'll go through treatment some days and light work others while suspended. It should keep him fresher if he plays this year.
