Since the unofficial summer workouts are just that...unofficial, does anyone know if Holmes is allowed to participate in those? Is there any rule saying that since he is banned from the team he can't be in the athletic facilities or use the practice field with the team? Obviously he has other options if he can't, but it makes it much harder if you are having to do solo workouts during the offseason. Would give him a disadvantage coming into the official summer practices assuming everything pans out and he is reinstated.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

Can't use any university facilities, which includes weight room and practice fields. If a group of players organized a workout at, say, a local park, he could do it. But any field under the team's control, he can't.

Well, I failed to execute on that +1. Sorry, Andy!

RE: Draft predictions...

I find it extremely interesting that Marcus Davis is projected as a 7th round pick - it seems that in drafts of previous years, a guy with his size and athleticism would never fall that low. I think with the way that NFL offenses have developed over the years, just having great measurables is no longer a guarantee for high draft status. The majority of successful receivers in today's NFL are precise route runners, willing blockers, and even of they are physically gifted, they are smart players.

It's almost shocking that a few years ago a guy like Heyward-Bey was considered one of the top receiver prospects - now, a similarly gifted athlete like Marcus Davis may go undrafted. I understand that there's a ton of variables when it comes to scouting talent, but there is no doubt in my mind that teams would have been much more willing to draft Davis based on potential alone within the first 3 rounds if it were 2008.

Probably if there hadn't been some very public outing of Davis's "blocking skills," he'd be going a bit higher. I mean, before last year, some people had him going in the 1st round, IIRC.

I totally understand the reasons that would turn teams away from Davis - I guess I was trying to make the point that such a problem might have been overlooked in past years due to his athleticism, height & potential.

I think if he hadn't been so publicly excoriated over it, it would have been overlooked. But teh interwebs made a huuuuuge thing of it, so...

I'll be surprised if Davis gets drafted. I think Painter and Fuller may get drafted 6th or 7th round.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I think it's an injustice to Corey Fuller to be drafted by the Jets. I would much rather see Fuller go to teams like the Patriots, the Panthers, or even Green Bay than to be drafted into a circus that's the Jets. I think that is more fitting for Marcus Davis!

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

I wouldn't even wish that on Marcus Davis. The Jets really seem like an incredibly dysfunctional and mismanaged organization, top to bottom. And while Davis gets much flack for what seemed like a lack of effort, he still made quite a few big plays for us. I hope he irons out the issues he had here and develops into a solid NFL receiver. He's definitely a gifted athlete.

I completely agree, and I said it mostly in jest. However, that is what was so frustrating about Davis- he's an incredible athlete when he fully commits to it. So, if Davis went to the Patriots as expected, Darth Hoodie is going to straighten him out or he is out of a job in a hurry.

Also, I'm not sure, but I saw a tweet last week or before saying that teams are very concerned about Davis' health. Anyone have additional info on that?

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

no special info but I always thought he came up favoring his shoulder or arm once a game after either landing on it or getting hit there. maybe just me though

It would appear khokie may have been on to something. Per Andy Bitter in a more recent post:

"Mayock said there are medical concerns about Davis, something that was news to him. Teams checked out Davis’ shoulder at the combine (he has an old labrum issue), but he said they weren’t alarmed by anything at the time."
