Something tells me this isn't the last time Fuller matches up with Cardale or Thomas....
#SUNDAYS
#PLAYOFFS? One can hope.
PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? I'm just tryin to win a game...PLAYOFFS?
Brewer had BETTER stats in one half of football than C. Jones did all game. Typical OSU comment.
Meh, you stay classy anOSU.
Time to move on, lets get after those furmenites!
Everyone keeps saying that Brewer was 'Cocky' in the locker room at half time. I'm confused by this. Do the teams share a locker room? Was the Hokies Locker room running a live feed I didn't know about? What did he do/say that OSU fans/players are referring to?
The only thing they can be going on is the video clip that ESPN showed. Someone (player) asked Brewer if he was OK after the hit he took in the first half. He said, very casually, "it's going to take a hell of a lot more than that to knock me out." That was it.
Thanks for clearing that up. Unsurprisingly, Twitter-ers seem to have blown the whole thing out of proportion.

Yeah, people that don't know Brewer's toughness think he was acting cocky or "asking for it." What bull. He's a tough guy, and that to me was version 2.0 of "I'll get up as long as you keep pushing forward." Team leader. Keep everybody thinking positive. I'm sure he was hurting, but he wasn't going to let it show.
Exactly. And for guys who play football there is a certain amount of toughness that you just have to play the sport...especially at the D1 level. I really don't get them being all "he was cocky" about it. Would Jones, Barrett, Miller or Zeke have said the same thing?? What would Barrett have said after being sacked 7 times last year?? He would have said, he's gonna keep gettin up and it's going to take more to get him out. ESPN just didn't film it. Oh well.....i'm getting irritated talking about it again.
I find it very interesting that OSU fans thought Brewer was being "cocky". I'm pretty sure the players (who gloated on twitter) represent the gold standard of cockiness. Cockiness is more related to "I'm so much better than you are" than "I'm going to roll with the punches". Brewer was not trying to say that OSU hits softly, he was just trying to say that he is going to do everything he can do stay in the game.
Yeah, I didn't take it as cockiness. That's just something football players say in situations like that.
I'm not buying into it, but players are superstitious, and some fans more so. He said that, and then the next play he is in the game "a hell of a lot more" came at him. If you are superstitious, you will use that as proof that his own words came back to haunt him. My take would be that a 300 lbs. guy drove him into the ground and broke his collarbone (which happens when 300 lbs. guys drive you into the ground) and that it was an unfortunate injury that happened by coincidence. IOW, what he said in the lockerroom had no connection to what happened to him on the field. But you will not convince the superstitious otherwise.
As to the post-game tweets and comments by OSU players, I don't like it. I'm so old-school that I don't like sushing the crowd or other demonstrations. When you score, act like you have been there before, hand the ball to the ref, and hug your teammates. But if you go back and look at VT player's comments after last year's game, there was some of that kind of stuff, and the thing that particularly irked them was the stuff that came from VTplayers after they won the championship. I wish none of it went on, but we are dealing with teen/early 20's young men here. Probably best to ignore it all around - unless it gets way out of hand.
Kind of funny when you think about it. The teams are 1-1 against each other. Both had a lot of the same personnel as well. I've got to imagine that many, if not most, players, fans, and casual fans that watched the game, think that its a much more competitive game if Brewer didn't go down. I think this series got under OSUs skin a bit more than orginally thought which I take as a big compliment to us.
Ohio State fans, and maybe some in the program itself, took VT serious last year - in terms of a team that they needed to take seriously, but not as a team that would actually come into Ohio Stadium at night and win the game. We made assumptions that were very, very wrong - that one in particular. And as the game unfolded, especially by the time it was over, there were certain realities about problems with the preparation for that game, and deficient areas that were exposed. That process actually worked to OSU's advantage because the problems were not talent issues, but things that could be fixed with coaching. So, there was a feeling that VT did them a painful favor. But that the pain part needed to be addressed this year - and that motivated them.
But programs, their fans in particular, seem to want - above anything else - respect. Credit for winning and respect for losing with great effort - essentially being worthy. I think VT has all of that from the vast majority of Buckeye Nation.
And, for sure, we recognize that Brewer was making the difference in that game. The proof of that was when he went down, every OSU and VT I was talking to said, "Well, that's the game" - and it was only a 21-17 game! I believe (don't know) that OSU would have still won that game based on what was happening with explosive plays the OSU offense was producing, but it would have been closer - maybe more like 42-31 or something in that area. FWIW
That's what makes this game so frustrating and fun. As you mentioned, I don't know if OSU wins the championship without that VT loss just as much as I don't know if OSU walks away with the W on Labor Day if Brewer didn't get knocked out. We will never know if that's true or not. At the end of the day though, I agree, it's all about respect. I've enjoyed the series and wish it could keep going.
As someone who is kind of superstitious, I had the same feeling when ESPN caught him in camera saying that. He has said similar things in the past like "I'll keep getting up if you guys keep pushing", but it was never caught on camera.
My take:
he's a competitor who wants to fire up his team. I would hope our guys fettle same way. Personally, I think these kids should be given some privacy and not have everything they say broadcast to the world. I thought his " Urban dodged a bullet" comment was pretty spot on as well. I hope he recovers quickly and has a great year.
As for the OSU 'fans" that mock his injury I, as many of my fellow OSU fans know, were disgusted by the low class comments. We have our share of idiots and it hurts me to see a school I love be associated with them.
Loved this comment by Gray.....
I mean they have a right to trash talk as they won. I think some of the trash talking about Brewer is uncalled for as a lot of it seemed to be mocking him and his injury. Thanks ESPN. However, I'm sure in every locker room players say that. What would OSU's DTs say when asked how they felt after getting pancaked by Teller?? I'm sure they'd say the same thing. So whatever. That's really why I try to stay off of Twitter and Facebook because crap like that just pisses me off.
Anyhow.....about Furman.....
I tell my boys that when people talk about you, it reveals more about them than you.
However, last year, they did act entitled. See Burrell
Twitter is one trashy place.
Kendall is right. anOSU can talk.
You know, I really like Kendall.
Twitter.... the internet's taint
No, that would be 4chan.
idk...4chan might be up near the colon
Or inside of it...
*facespace
I do agree 'to the winner goes the spoils.' But idk why Michael Thomas was so full of himself after that game. He beat Kendall on that move for a TD and he got a PI call on him, but was it like Kendall was getting roasted all night? Thomas only had 2 catches.
I'd think when you play man-to-man on an NFL prospect WR, that's the kind of thing that'll happen. Fuller's night wasn't the best, but I don't think he should hold his head in shame or anything. Thomas got his but I don't really see it as something you should beat your chest over. Am I selling Thomas short?
2 catches, 46 yards and a TD is fine....but it isnt like he had 9 catches 167 yards and 3 TDs or anything crazy like that. Be humble, keep it classy and move on.
Hell, the game was already 100% over by the time he made that TD catch. He didn't appear to have much of an impact on that game. But he was still on twitter after the game beating his chest over the double move.
I did sell Thomas short as he drew 2 PI's not 1...one on Fuller and the other one on Terrell Edmunds.
meanwhile Braxton Miller didn't seem to tweet about VT but he killed us...
I told my anOSU coworker that I thought Braxton was as classy and grounded as I can remember. Zeke as well.
Which is why they did not take to twitter. They came to anOSU to do more than just play school.
It seems that JT Barrett is humble as well. I don't recall him saying anything. He seems like one of those guys who just keeps his mouth shut and works.
I interfered more on that pass than Terrell did.
Cardale Jones needs to grow up. He's an embarrassment.
In five years he'll be embarrassed by that tweet, and if he's not, then in ten he'll be embarrassed by that fact.

Bit harsh on a college kid who by most accounts is not a bad guy at all.
Edit: Looks like a lot of guys are calling him classless for this. I guess I'm not seeing it. College kid talks smack after winning a big football game. If I'm his parents I would probably tell him to refrain, but in the scheme of life, is this really something that means he has no class?
Yes. It's the kind of thing that they establish antagonists with in sports movies.
"in the scheme of life"? Yeah, I do think that is the question. Is he going to be this way in his life going forth? I've heard the "not a gad guy at all." excuse used to dismiss everything from such minor classless behavior as this to someone who has committed serious crimes. Good people are good people, not just sometimes, when it's easy to be, but all the time, most importantly when it is not so easy to be. Am I writing the kid off? Well, no, but my opinion of him is set pretty low right now. He'll get along just fine without my approval, but that doesn't make him less of a dick in my humble opinion, of course.
Fair enough, but by all accounts he is decent person, a good student, albeit a bit of a joker. We put these kids on a pedestal and everything they say or do is hashed out on the internet. The good things go unnoticed but slip up once, and you will never live it down. He hasn't got in trouble, doesn't taunt other players or act like he is special. I'll take hime over some other big name quarterbacks who seem to think they are bigger than the game or the school he represents and has the privilege of playing for.
Pride comes before the fall. Read that somewhere
Oh, I'm sure they felt they were ENTITLED to gloat, huh?
Whoever said that since they won they can talk, good for them. It takes at least a little humility to understand when you're getting what you deserve.
It takes, I think, just about as much to resist dishing out the smacktalk as it does to take it when you deserve it.
Let them puff their chests out. Pride has a funny way of sneaking back up on you.
Hubris is part of the downfall of every successful sports team. You start thinking you win simply because you have been winning - and the fall is not far behind. Ask the SEC. Now that they have been humbled, look out.
As for Cardale's tweet, again - I don't like it - but if you are reading malice into him, you probably aren't getting him. Think of one of your friends who likes to poke a little fun at you with a big grin on his face. That's Cardale.
I'll take that kind of ribbing from a friend, but in this case, maybe malice is too strong a word, but if it were a friend, I'd still be thinking passive aggression and while I likely wouldn't start a ruckus over it, I'd file it in the "is that person really my friend?" folder and watch my back around them for a while. As it is, though, my opinion of Cardale Jones is that he is a juvenile jerk whose parents and coaches have failed to teach humility to go with his talents. No class.
Thus highlighting the difference between can and should.
I'm glad for examples like this to reinforce my decision to not Twerker or Bookface.
If there are any Ohio State fans left on this website, can any of you confirm why Cardale Jones wears a knee brace on his left knee? That brace is specifically for ACLs, and he did not wear it till the end of last season.
Bottom line: Cardale Jones is a beast, but he'd also be the first one to tell you that. If I were an NFL GM I'd tell him to lay off ALL social media the second he's drafted, but I would take his skill set any day of the week. Dude is just built for the next level.
