Drew Harris Offered By FSU

It's going to be interesting to see what happens here, not only are Harris and Tech battling the NCAA, but the Hokies will have to fend off other schools offering scholarships.

Name one recent great FSU running back. I can't think of one either

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

Bobby Bowden, running back to his boat.

Warrick Dunn and Greg Jones were both beast mode tailbacks.

And, of course, Darnell Jefferson. #ThunderRight #ClosingTimeBaby

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

The nastiest thing I've ever seen a RB do. I still remember the first time I saw this play, my jaw almost came unhinged.

I think there is a misconception when it comes to VT RBs. While VT has had some great college RBs, VT has not had 1 good NFL running back. In fact, I'm sure Warrick Dunn has more NFL rushing yards than all VT RBs combined. VT RBs have had some bad luck like KJ and Ru, but overall good VT RBs have not translated into NFL-caliber back. However, it appears DW is on the fast-track to becoming an elite RB. It will be sweet if Wilson can supplant the hated Tiki Barber in the Giant's record books.

I think every Hokie playing for the Giants should erase the contributions made by the cav alums.

I #LOLUVA as much as the rest of us, but D'Brickashaw Ferguson... what a name.

It would seem though that if he can't get through the Clearinghouse, the offer won't even matter. From what I understand, this is purely an NCAA thing and not a VT Admissions problem.

maybe he should go to UNC, it would be a match made in heaven! Can you say Afro-American studies y'all?

May we all get what we want and never what we deserve.

Joe need to kick this dude out!

We run va!

Kenny,

No we don't. The self moderation system here handles that for us. If you feel the need, down vote. Otherwise, please use the forums to add to the discussion in an intelligent/funny/witty way, or use TSL: http://www.techsideline.com.

Thanks,

this kid went to high school with my best friend from home. never heard one good thing about him. he can go to fsu (or elsewhere) for all I care. I know that sounds terrible, but I'm so over the hooplah with him.

remember that time we set off the richter scale jumping to "enter, sandman"?

I have heard similar things from people close to him in HS....unless attitude and work ethic have changed drastically, then I agree

I knew this would happen. bummer, I hope he comes to VT.

From the rest of his tweets after the offer, it looks like he's still planning on coming to Tech.

Regarding Harris, we really can never have enough playmakers at any one position. I still hope he plays for the Hokies.

Agreed, I'd rather have a playmaker like him on our team than against our team. Whether he truly is a star or not.

My understanding, from reading Gobbler Country's tweets who apparently was on the phone with Harris himself, Harris is still committed to the Hokies, and expressed distress over the reaction he received from fans.

My gut says he won't be coming mainly because of the NCAA's ever so slow moving in the Clearinghouse. Seriously, what is so damn difficult in deciding if said player is ineligible or not?

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Wouldn't the clearinghouse difficulty apply to FSU as well?????

I believe so. Someone can correct me on this, but I think where Tech will lag behind other schools is if Harris has to go JuCo. Tech's policy is strict with regards to JuCo players.

I thought it was an ACC rule not to allow non-qualifiers (which is what Harris will be if his HS transcript isn't cleared up.)

Non qualifiers are kids who don't have the grades or test scores out of HS to get into college. Prep school kids are partial qualifiers, generally there to improve their test scores to get in. (I think that's all you can do anymore, you used to be able to retake your senior year classes to raise your GPA but I think they did away with that. But GPA + test Scores are a sliding scale, so a kid may have bad grades and go prep school to add a higher test score to get in)

There are JUCO partial qualifiers/qualifiers. Sylvester Williams, DT for UNC who was a 1st round draft pick, was a qualifier out of HS but nobody recruited him, so he went JUCO, blew up and got offers. Another type of JUCO is the transfer, which is what Kevin MacAdam was. He played at Colorado State for a year then transferred to a JUCO then came to VT for two years.

I believe Big Jimmy Williams and the rover (Griffin?) were both partial qualifiers. If I recall correctly, VT hasn't let in a non-qualifier since before the bowl run started. But I thought it was an ACC rule. I know the SEC and the B12 do not have this rule (see Baylor, Kansas State). Of note, there are a couple of big JUCO's in Mississippi which have fed players to Ole Miss, Bama and Miss St over the years. Most of the JUCO's are in Kansas or California.

So basically what you're saying is Kansas State is going to get a helluva tailback?

Arkansas has approached Harris as well. Link is free, I think.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Norm Wood put all the information out there in a really nice read: http://www.dailypress.com/sports/colleges/virginia-tech/dp-spt-tech-drew....

"It looks like I might have to take the Cam Newton route at this point," said Harris Jr. of heading to junior college.

"At this point, I can't afford to sit here and stress. I've got to go out and do what I've got to do."

At the very least, Harris Jr. just wants to know if the NCAA will let him play Division I football. He had his transcript flagged in January by the NCAA Clearinghouse, and was told the courses he'd taken at Fork Union Military Academy wouldn't count, according to his father.

Now, Harris Jr.'s head is spinning. He and his father are hoping to get a waiver from the NCAA by August on the grounds that they were ill-advised in Harris Jr.'s academic pursuits, but neither is are optimistic the waiver will come by the time Harris Jr. would have to enroll at a Division I program for the fall semester.

That doesn't sound too good.

Maybe it's related, maybe it's not, but Harris had this to say this morning

Does itmean that Norm misunderstood him? Is he referring to something else? We may never know, but this saga has been a roller coaster. I only hope it clears up for him soon.

These two paragraphs from the nj.com article were rather intruiging....

Harris's main goal is to make it to the NFL. Hence, he has chosen to focus on academics as opposed to delving too deeply within the recruiting process, at this point.

"I'm pretty open, but I'm just trying to get my grades down," he said. "Football is gonna take care of itself. My coaches told me I don't really need a highlight tape. So things must be going well if they are that confident.

Maybe he should focus on getting his grades up instead.
