QB Chris Durkin Working at tight end

We've started working Chris Durkin some at tight end, and I actually wanted to get him in the Furman game at tight end, but we started with the Wild Cat packages and the opportunity didn't present itself. He was playing some quarterback and I didn't want to over extend with him. So, going to Purdue, all this week, my biggest thing, is making sure we get their legs back and making sure they're explosive and ready roll on Saturday.

Boy, someone on twitter looks really silly right now.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Did I miss something? Hokie####?

I mean you have to get your best 11 on the field. I hope he stays a QB and just does some TE things (packages) but still, I rather his talent see the field in some way, if he can't become the #1 QB at some point in his career. Kid is just too talented to only be signaling plays from the sideline.

Spot on with getting the best on the field. Adding depth and versatility. Next we'll see Sam Rogers at linebacker or in the press box.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

This is how depth gets thinned out though...

Moving a guy from #3 at the most important position to #3 at a significantly less important position doesn't make a ton of sense to me on the surface of it.

This is why I'd love to see McMillan to start getting some looks at WR. From that position, he could still easily run the sweep play, plus it would allow us to keep him on the field when Trey, Shai, or JC is running the ball.

The guy runs so angry I'd love to see what he can do in some jumbo packages

kff17, thank you for sharing. I updated the thread to include the relevant information from BeamerBall.com.

Thanks, I probably shoulda done that in the first place.

This is a good idea. Durkin probably wasn't going to be getting a lot of time at QB for the rest of his career given Motley, Lawson, the future arrival of Jackson, and the indomitable Jack Click. He's got the size and ball-carrying ability to be a TE, but I haven't seen him run routes, catch, or block.

If he can tackle maybe he should be MLB.

I haven't seen any of that stuff either, but I've seen his dad. It's probably in somebody's best interest to get that kid on the field.

Leonard. Duh.

I see him as more of an H-Back type player, kind of how Meyer is using Braxton at that position. Can line up in the backfield and be used in the running game and blocking. If he demonstrates an ability to catch, that makes him all the more versatile. Could also take some direct snaps as a wildcat option. I remember Cline being used in 2013 some as an H-Back and Lefty putting him in motion. He could be a run option on the handoff, or run a route out of the backfield and be a threat in the passing game. Should give Loeffler tons of options. Durkin absolutely needs to be on the field for us.

Forget DBU, VT should be QB2TEU! /s

Forget DBU, VT should be QB<->TEU!

Ryan Tannehill started off as a WR at Texas A&M and ended up being a first round draft pick as a QB, no reason why Chris can be a TE with the long-term goal of making him a QB.

I think this is mostly true. Tannehill came in as a QB and lost the QB competition, so Sherman moved him to WR. He played a bunch of WR his first two years before getting his QB reps and finishing as QB at ATM.

BLT Mode: engage.

"Exit light..."

I would stab someone for a BLT right now.

Leonard. Duh.

So let it be written .

So let it be done.

And WHAT A SURPRISE! In other news, studies have recently discovered that grass is green. Side note: agree with Activation BLT mode.

Durkin is kinda slim for a TE now, no?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Looks like a job for

Yeah, doesn't he weigh 220 or something right now? That's TB size, not TE size.

So are we going to trot out some 4 TE looks now??

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

You can never have too many TEs

Beamer once told Bucky , the farther away you are from the ball, the greater your chances of seeing the field. It's working great for Bucky . Hopefully it all works out for Durkin.

With the way that he runs with the ball in his hands, he cound be our slightly shorter version of Gronk.

The TE jokes write themselves at this point. Seriously though, I'm a fan of this
