They really are the UVA of North Carolina. Pompous folks who think they are better than everyone. Sad part is UVA at least can point to a high academic university still.

Illinois has left 14 points on the field from drops by their receivers. 2 perfectly thrown balls, one in the chest, one in the hands, two drops in the end zone. It's an interesting defensive strategy from UNC, but so far it's working.

ND/GT was a great game. ND came out real aggressive and won, I thought GT was going to pummel them. I'm not sure we'll beat GT, they looked pretty good.
Miami showed little regard for whether Nebraska was on the field or not. I don't think we can beat Miami in our current state.
LSU just buried Auburn. It wasn't even a contest. Auburn is probably a top 25 team, but you wouldn't know it by looking at their last two weeks of production.
NIU?! Come on, OSU. What.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Why do you think Auburn is a top 25 team? Louisville is pretty bad AND still had great chances to win the game, Jacksonville state is FCS and a 17 yard punt gave Auburn the game.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Auburn has the talent and the coaching to be good, but they haven't been able to put it together yet. LSU looked way better than Auburn tonight, but I thought it looked like LSU really, really had it all together as opposed to Auburn looking like they were lost.
As for the Jacksonville State game, I am still willing to chalk that up to a decent team having a tough day against perhaps a bad matchup. Until Auburn really stinks up the joint another time or two, I still think they'd be a tough out on any given weekend for 80% of CFB. Hence, could still be top 25.
I wouldn't be surprised, nor objecting to, Auburn being out of the top 25 after this blasting. Their defense couldn't tackle Fournette, but I expect that will be the case for a lot of teams this year. I don't hold that against them too much.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Kid should be in the Heisman talk if he isn't yet. I haven't seen someone run like that in a while. His kinda reminds me of a bigger, faster Ryan Williams.
I was very low on LSU this year, just b/c they don't have (or don't use?) a legit quarterback. They might not need one.

Agree to disagree about Miami...I'm starting to believe in our boys getting better. Nebraska isn't much of a task anymore, but we'll have #12 back by the time we play them which is enough time to clean up our own mistakes. But the offensive output aside from when Motley took over for Brewer against the champs, has been solid this year.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Perhaps. Miami came out really really strong yesterday. Nebraska isn't a great team by any stretch, but they looked way overmatched in the early going. In retrospect, maybe it just took Nebraska a little time to work out some details, and Miami probably thought they had it in the bag, but Miami doesn't look like Duke Johnson + 21 anymore. It looks like their talent is a little better spread across their team.

I only glanced at the game on occasion but it looked like a ND that struggled with a mediocre at best UVA -- dominated GT.
The "experts" were putting way too much into the fact GT blew out a couple of inferior opponents. This is what they always do. The difference between holding them to a 1 yard gain and giving up a 76 yard touchdown is just a little speed and good execution.
Other than UVA, GT's schedule is pretty tough from now until the end other season. I said before the season they would have a pretty tough time winning 8 games and going better than 5-3 in the ACC. I still think that.

I thought they looked pretty good compared to our game last week vs Furman. I didn't see our Purdue game. They came out against ND and had most of their game together, but couldn't really stop Fuller (nothing new there) and let Prosise get a little too loose on a couple of occasions.
We have a similar setup right now. A great receiver (Ford) with a backup QB, but I don't think any of our runners are Prosise-ly as good as ND's.
So I guess you're probably right, GT might not have looked great but looking ahead to them for our game, I didn't like what I saw.

Might be putting too much stock in a win over Illinois (a team whose coach was fired in August). I agree USC isn't close to good but UNC didn't look like anything special either. Williams makes some of the worst throws I've ever seen by a D1 QB.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't think it does either. I think it's just more of a perception thing. "Virginia Tech blew out Furman who has a win over an FBS team this season."

Kirk Herbstreit talking about Chad Kelly and how he's been through so much and he must be so excited that he's leading a big time program. Good lord that was downright dumb. Chad Kelly's criminal record is almost as bad as Marcus Vicks.

Damn iowa! Now we have a tie with the big ten for the competition. 3-3. Are there any more games left against the big ten left? The announcers today repeated endlessly how bad the acc was against other power five programs.

This was awesome. Looked like USC was gonna roll after the first couple possessions, but Stanford found an offense and was in control pretty much the whole second half. Today was a good day of football.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Texas just missed an xp to tie the game up after a QB keeper that goes 45 with less than a minute and a half left in the game. Loses to Cal on a missed xp.

Swag Kelly is a great fit for Ole Miss. It's a team that takes it's energy from its swag. They have thrown Bama around all night. Freeze gets them hyped up. Kelly couldn't have found a better fit.

Bama lost by six with five turnovers while going back to a QB they had decided to bench. I am quite envious that that is how they lose games to other great teams. #respect

Alabama lost, anOSU is struggling, the SEC is beating themselves up, Stanford on the rise, GT has kinks in the armor, Clemson/FSU struggled to put points on the board, every opponent we play is beatable and the rest of the leagues are up for grabs! Guys I'm jumping back on the hype train after our offense showing life! Starting to really like Motley.

The Bama excuses are getting deep this morning, game started too late for Bama players, Lane Kiffin, ESPN announcers. Finebaum will be great Monday with Auburn and Bama losing. Interesting stat from ESPN Bama has lost 7 times ranked in top 2 since 2007, the most of any team.

Well, when the logo on your helmet consistently bumps you up a few spots in the rankings, you're probably gonna be coming back down to earth sooner rather than later.

I was blown away watching Ole Miss' Robert Nkemdiche wreak havoc..... I can't believe he's 300 LB's and that cut ant fast.
So I looked at W. Campbell's 2016 mock NFL draft...they have him going 10th.
But, they have Bosa #1 with SEVEN tOSU players going first round! What an embarrassment of riches.

Question: I know it's next season, but is anybody even a little bit worried/concerned about the Vols next year at Bristol? I mean, they're a young but on the up-and-coming team and, well, we're gonna be losing a bunch of guys on D after this season. Thoughts?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I like what we have coming back on D, and these early-season reps they're getting are earning them late-season reps against better competition. Particularly on the D-line and #DBU.
Linebackers, I'm concerned about a bit.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
At DT we lose Maddy and Marshall but we have some experience and some talent behind them. Conclusion: DT will be fine, and they'll be fine quickly.
At DE, we lose Nicolas but Ekanem has another year, and I think we're OK with the backup(s) we have now (Sobczak?) and have talent in the pipeline.
At LB, we lose Clarke and VanDyke only. I think we can overcome those losses if our next guys up get valuable snaps this year.
At S, we lose Donovan Riley only. Might be a little tougher to replace him, but he's only been the starter for one year, so I think it'll be impossible to immediately replace his experience, but we should be able to replace his talent.
At CB, we will lose Kendall. Still have Facyson and Clark, with Stroman and Reynolds in the pipeline.
Conclusion: Should be fine. Will be good to start with Liberty next year.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Worth noting: Riley isn't starting and Sobczak is a DT. Other tha. That you're pretty spot on. However, how the young guys come along at DE and LB will be huge for us. If we get solid LB play and one of the young corners steps up, we'll be pretty darn good.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Oh I thought Sobczak moved over to provide depth at DE. Either way, Baron and Williams are back next year and Settle and Walker will be in the mix, too. Maybe I was thinking of Mihota...?

UNC throwing INT. MERRYLAND struggling. Missouri losing to UCONN.
UNC is dominating Illinois so far.
On the scoreboard, maybe, but they haven't looked good doing it. Been gashed repeatedly. Hood is legit though.
*EDIT* 13-7 game now.
Of all the noon games, I am most interested in the Dook game I think
Defense has been great. Our game with them will likely be similar to last year's - ugly, defensive, team that screws up the least wins.
Pretty much our games from the last 5-6 years with them...
Agree, but....
.... if Duke upsets a ranked B1G team and no one is there in Wallace Wade to see it...
Duke may have more people there than UNC has at their stadium
I thought that at first, but it might have just been an optical illusion because Duke has blue seats in much of their stadium.
A lot of empty seats at UNC today
Stole that idea from UVA
Is that an argyle pattern painted next to their field? How UVA-esque of them.
They really are the UVA of North Carolina. Pompous folks who think they are better than everyone. Sad part is UVA at least can point to a high academic university still.
I just realized the argyle is on their pants and helmet too. Wow...
I love it. UNC has an incredible graphics package. Wish Nike would treat our designs with similar clarity and style.
Illinois has left 14 points on the field from drops by their receivers. 2 perfectly thrown balls, one in the chest, one in the hands, two drops in the end zone. It's an interesting defensive strategy from UNC, but so far it's working.
Make it so easy it is too easy and they will screw up on their own. It's so crazy apparently it works. I hope they try that against us too.
Walker from NW has 14 tackles in the first half. Incredible
Duke plays We Will Rock You in between plays when NW is in huddle. Shouldn't be allowed.
Duke fans & band not loud enough to bother anyone.
Pretty sure the rule is they just have to cut it by the start of the play.
How to beat Duke: know where Jeremy Cash is and stay the hell away from him. DPOY in ACC.
NW has 109 total yards on offense and is winning. More incredible is 53 of that came on their last drive which yielded a FG.
Currently watching UCONN and Mizzou so I don't feel so bad when VT and Purdue combine for thirty.
I hope that's not the case, but whatever.. I'm just glad that I don't have to stream the game via watchespn.
With the game well in control time for UNC to run the ball to drain the clock.
There are no fans at Maryland. Isn't the first game I've seen today with more open stand space than filled. College football is changing fast in terms of fans attending games.
CFB definitely has an attendance problem, but Maryland isn't exactly a huge football school. Most students don't get really get into it.
BeamerBall is contagious:
Just looking at stats, NIU held an osu to 20 points and 298 yrds. Hmmmm
ND/GT was a great game. ND came out real aggressive and won, I thought GT was going to pummel them. I'm not sure we'll beat GT, they looked pretty good.
Miami showed little regard for whether Nebraska was on the field or not. I don't think we can beat Miami in our current state.

Man you just jinxed Brewer!
How did GT look pretty good?
I only glanced at the game on occasion but it looked like a ND that struggled with a mediocre at best UVA -- dominated GT.

Miami doing everything they can to get Nebraska back in this game.
Wisconsin game was plagued by awful officiating. How about that OSU game too...close close close
Nebraska just came back from 33-10 to tie the game. Wow.
Al Golden may lose his job tonight.
Miami choking so bad. If UM loses Golden is done
Uva got their single win of the year, but it was close. Lol @ Miami
There were multiple points during that game I wondered if it would be the loss that cost London his job.
Anyone noticing how well the Timecop reject Lambert is playing tonight? UVa can recruit good QBs, but they sure can't coach them haha.
UNC is going to lament losing to USC. UNC might win a lot of games this year, and USC is awful.
Might be putting too much stock in a win over Illinois (a team whose coach was fired in August). I agree USC isn't close to good but UNC didn't look like anything special either. Williams makes some of the worst throws I've ever seen by a D1 QB.
I think it speaks to how truly bad USCe is. UNC gave that game away with mistakes.
This. Williams threw two endzone interceptions including one that sealed it late in the 4th. Completely gift wrapped the W for USCe.
Lambert just destroyed UGA's school record for completion percentage.
LOLUVA
South Carolina (and the rest of the SEC East) is not good.
UT is good.
Based on beating BGSU and Western Carolina?
Sure, and watching them play.
Like choking away a big lead at home vs OK?
They are good, but I wouldn't go too far
And being up by 17 against OU.
Young team, still learning to win. Will notch some big ones this year.
If both programs maintain their current trajectories, Bristol could be pretty epic.
FIFY.
They have talent, but their still very much growing as a team. I don't think they've put together a full 4 quarters in the last 5 years.
And in general the ACC is not good by comparison.
The point is UVA continues to produce inferior football with serviceable to great players.
That's not just a Georgia record. IIRC that's a national record.
Correct. Lambert also now holds the UGA record for consecutive completions, with 20, on top of that. Insane.
Do MLS games count as other games because DC United has gone to shit.
Furman with the SOS assist.
I might be wrong, but I don't think anything FCS opponents do affect a FBS program's SOS.
But I might have just made that up.
I don't think it does either. I think it's just more of a perception thing. "Virginia Tech blew out Furman who has a win over an FBS team this season."
Whoa
Not sure if "Fear the FCS" is the right slogan for beating a no-win team by one point.
Suddenly our 2 wins look that much better
Bieleme would really like his comments about anOSU schedule back at this point, lose to Toledo losing to TT.
So much for Arkansas being a sleeper pick this year
And that preseason #18 ranking.
The Rebs seem bent on a repeat of last year
Looks like we will have a few "upsets" today.
Remember when Swag Kelly was trying to rumor mill himself onto our roster?
Yeah I know Ole Miss is up against Bama, but I still like who we got over him
Kid is one "fun" night away from not being on the Ole Miss roster either.
Brewer or Lawson?
Yes
Kirk Herbstreit talking about Chad Kelly and how he's been through so much and he must be so excited that he's leading a big time program. Good lord that was downright dumb. Chad Kelly's criminal record is almost as bad as Marcus Vicks.
Stanford takes 2-score lead with 11:21 to go in regulation.
This one surprises me. I really thought Stanford had started the slide back into mediocrity.
Incredible by Coker to avoid what looked to be an almost certain sack by Ole Miss; sets up Bama's first TD of the night.
If Bama wins this game, that play woke them up.
Pitt ties it up with Iowa with less than minute to go in 4Q
I can't find this game on TV, it's supposed to be on BTN "overflow" whatever the hell that is.
The alternate channel. 330 on Verizon Fios. Usually in SD only. Sometimes shows up in guides as BTN 1 or BTN 2.
I'm concerned that Narduzzi looks like he could be Walt Harris' brother.
Iowa survives Pitt's late surge, with a FG
Did I see it correctly that the first FG attempt was short?
So if Pitt didn't try that stupid icing maneuver, they might have sent the game into OT?
Correct. Pitt did call the time out and then send a returner back which they did not have on the first attempt.
And the first attempt was 10 yards short. Maybe the kicker didn't hit it well with the whistles.
But he smoked that 2nd one. Good from 65. The look on Boyd's face (returner) was great.
Pitt looks goo tho. Loss of Conner seems to be minimal, plenty of quality backs. And Peterman looks a lot better than Voytik
A 57 yd bomb of a FG.
Damn iowa! Now we have a tie with the big ten for the competition. 3-3. Are there any more games left against the big ten left? The announcers today repeated endlessly how bad the acc was against other power five programs.
Indiana and Wake Forest next week. So, a toss up of a toilet bowl.
We have as many ACC/B1G games this year as ACC/SEC.
So the reputation of the acc is going to depend on wake forest who lost their qb today.
USCw loses to Stanford 41-31
This was awesome. Looked like USC was gonna roll after the first couple possessions, but Stanford found an offense and was in control pretty much the whole second half. Today was a good day of football.
Texas missed PAT that was have tied up game with a little over 1 min left!
Yikes, Texas loses after missing the extra point to tie.
Huge TD by the Rebs
Texas just missed an xp to tie the game up after a QB keeper that goes 45 with less than a minute and a half left in the game. Loses to Cal on a missed xp.
Sabans deal with the devil is coming back to haunt Bama. Ole Miss just got the luckiest TD I have ever seen.
Bama also has a QB problem. How does that happen?
They didn't take a UVA transfer.
They offered Lambert out of HS. He's from Alabama I think.
"okay, let's come up with a play even more bizarre than the FG return"
Someone better keep an eye on Infamous Bama fanatic, Phyllis; Finebaum show will probably be worth listening to on Monday
I was just coming here to post that Finebaum's show on Monday will be GLORIOUS.
Swag Kelly is a great fit for Ole Miss. It's a team that takes it's energy from its swag. They have thrown Bama around all night. Freeze gets them hyped up. Kelly couldn't have found a better fit.
He's definitely "in the zone" tonight
Rebs have a 20pt lead, late in the 3Q
Bammers about to riot over what was clearly an incomplete pass.
Earlier, unbelievable play by Ole Miss
Just like they drew it up.
Man, that is auburn 2013 level of luck right there
UCLA's D. Fuller has a big punt return
Tuscaloosa might burn to the ground tonight.
EDIT: Geography fail
Huge TDs by UCLA and Ole Miss
Fan duel and draft kings must be raking in the cash.
SAD ALABAMA FAN SIGHTING!
Edit: picture included
Someone Photoshop in Sad UVA Fan next to him, please!!!
Would be orange and maroonish, too
BYU retakes lead
I think that's game. Ole miss 42 Bama 24 with 10 mins left.
42 seems to be a popular score this year.
PAWWWWWWWWWWL. OL MISS CHEATED PAWWWWWWWWWL.
This is glorious SEC mayhem!
Also, it's amazing what Rosen looks like against a defense that's not loluva (i.e. a real defense).
Spoiled fairweather bandwagon bullshit Bammer fans streaming out.
YESSSS now we can have a Sad Bama fan gif!!
Just looking at Lane Kiffin makes me want to choke him.
This is correct
Well, this Bama-Ole Miss game is getting pretty darn interesting.
Hell of a game.
Bama is gonna win this game, just watch
Bama QB just got destroyed.
Herbie just said a field goal doesn't do any good for Ole Miss in a six point game...
I feel so much pity for Bama... /s
Ucla picks off BYU with 58s left. Ucla leads by 1 point

Yeah, that's going to be a top 10 or better UT team. Need to get VT to that level as well.
Add in the SEC bump and its top 7.
Mmm..kinda.
