If you're going to be staying in the Triad and want to carpool, let me know. I'll be leaving early Saturday morning from Greensboro and headed back after the game.

If it's not on the ACC network (assuming you live in an area with the ACC network), ESPN3 will carry it. Conversely, if it is on the ACC network, it'll be blacked out on ESPN3 (again, only if your area carries the ACC network).

Good to know. Regional sports networks usually means CSN and random coverage picked up by network affiliates directly, right? RSN and ACC Network are typically two different animals in my experience.

I've got four for sale. Great seats, Section 20, Row P. Right on the goal line and right above the locker room door. Plus the parking pass in Lot 7. I can't go because I'll be at the State Fair.

So after a bunch of back and forth with my buddy that I have the tickets with we are not going and the tickets are for sale.
You get first dibs, but I live in the DC area and I am afraid they won't get to you in time (looks like you're in Christiansburg from your profile) -- let me know!

Even the best best teams play noon or earlier games, FSU had an 1130 start this year. OK and MSU played noon games this past week and MSU and UGA play noon games this week.

I'm actually happy with this. Opening day of hunting season here so I can hunt all morning, come in, get lunch and watch the game and head back out for the evening hunt. The 3:30 game woulda cut out the evening.

Dang, that is the game my parents are coming for. I was thinking of taking them to the Bowman room for a nice relaxing lunch before the slow stroll over to the Hokie Village and then to a 3:30 game.

Saturday, Oct. 3
Pitt at Virginia Tech, RSN, Noon
Louisville at NC State, ACC Network, 12:30 p.m.
Florida State at Wake Forest, ABC, ESPN or ESPN2*, 3:30 p.m.
North Carolina at Georgia Tech, ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.
Boston College at Duke, RSN, 3:30 p.m.
Notre Dame at Clemson, ABC, 8 p.m.
the ACC Network start is always at 12:30. We are starting at noon on "Regional Sports Network." It may have ACC Network production, but it won't be on my tv in the normal ACC network slot like last weeks NW/Duke game. That's fine with me, that is inexplicably the only non-HD channel we get. Hopefully "RSN" is MASN. Unless there is an O's game or something.

Please, Lord, not ESPNU. My only experience calling a game was my son's 4th grade Pop Warner game years ago, but I think I could have done a better job than those guys on the Purdue game.

+1 for shower beer. Its gonna sound weird i know but our fraternity had communal showers and there was nothing better on game day than to get a cooler of cold ones after a win and throw a party in the shower. There were more girls than brothers there before anyone asks

This one surprises me a little. It looks like this isn't the ACC Network game of the week, which means no television interest should be setting kickoff time. Whit said whenever he got to set the kickoff, VT would kick at 3:30.

It's usually the same cable channels every week for RSN.
One year, when I still had DISH, and they would provide random regional sports network feeds, I saw the BC at VT game via a feed from Fox Sports Arizona.

Call Me Selfish, but I kind of like it.
That Saturday is my 21st and i'll be able to catch the game, go to dinner with my parents, then go DT.
So, those of you who are veterans of the Blacksburg Bars, your tips and ideas are welcome.
Hoping by the end of the night i'll have the dance moves par to those of coach Beamer

Sharkey's was always too packed during the year for my tastes. I'd end up with a fatty mug of something or a triple at the end of HH happy hour...and that would last me long enough until it was time to move to TOTS

I'll be on a plane from 1-3. On the other hand, Pitt games usually end with me throwing things and wondering what the hell just happened so this may be a blessing in disguise.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So we should be expecting to hear about a plane being forced to make an emergency landing to deplane an unruly passenger about halfway to their destination?

This is how I imagine your flight will go. You'll be playing the part of Nicholas Cage in this story.
Meeting the guy sitting next to you, who is a Pitt fan. It all starts off well.
VT defers, and Pitt comes out strong to go up 7-0. Here we go again with playing Pitt.
Offense sputters and can't get on the board. Pitt responds with another score and we're down 14-0.
VT finally gets on the board and it's 14-7 Pitt. VT gets the ball back just before the half and threatens, but we miss the field goal and go into the half down by a touchdown.
We get the ball back and don't look good. Pitt gets the ball back and while the defense is showing signs of life, they score a field goal while you're discussing who the Pitt fan next to you thinks will make the playoffs. Pitt's now up 17-7.
After a few good defensive holds for both teams, Pitt throws a costly pick-six to end the third quarter. It's now 17-14 and VT has momentum.
The fourth quarter is again mostly quiet. Defenses are both playing well. It's getting stressful for you, and you've taken your outer shirt off again at this point. VT has the ball, it's second down and Motley takes a bad sack to put us out of field goal range. It feels like deja-vu all over again.
Third and very long. Beamer has to call our last timeout with only seconds on the clock. It's all or nothing at this point. Motley scrambles and throws a beautiful pass to Ford in double coverage, but it's where only he can make a play on it. Touchdown Tech, victory by a score of 21-17.
You ain't even mad that you got on the wrong plane and ended up in Detroit.

What is the difference between WatchESPN and ESPN3?
WatchESPN delivers live access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, SEC Network, SEC Network +, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, Longhorn Network, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater on computers, smartphones, tablets and TV connected devices.
ESPN3 is a live multi-screen digital network that provides thousands of live events annually, as well as replays of recent ESPN events.
WatchESPN is the app/website to watch ESPN channels, while ESPN3 is a "channel" that is available on WatchESPN (both live and in replays).
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
WatchESPN isn't blacking out ESPN3, because the only way to watch ESPN3 is through WatchESPN. If you type ESPN3.com into your browser, it goes to the WatchESPN site.
Generally, games that are blacked out on ESPN3 aren't directly produced by ESPN, and are generally found on television in some form in the blacked out areas.

I remember the Penn State 8am game (in Dublin against UCF?). I woke up hungover and my friend (PSU alum) had breakfast and bloody mary's prepared and waiting for me. After watching, hangover gone, and a full day of football ahead of me. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
But really, why is ESPN picking the FSU Wake game? Is every team guaranteed at least one, and they pick Wake/FSU so no one will watch and think "FSU looks as good as those SEC teams?"
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Slight misconception in there. RSN is not Raycom. The RSN games are produced by Fox Sports, via a sublicense. If Fox Sports had a regional channel in every market, they would probably just list it as "Fox Sports Net". However, there is no FSN in the mid-Atlantic region, and that area is covered by Comcast.
Raycom only produces the ACC Network game.
(Seriously, after having these deals for several years, I'm not sure why there's so much confusion around here every time we're not on a channel with the letters ABC or ESPN in the name.)

We all knew this would happen at some point right? Looks like a stay the night before in Winston Salem area.
If you're going to be staying in the Triad and want to carpool, let me know. I'll be leaving early Saturday morning from Greensboro and headed back after the game.
The wife and I are going up and hope to show her around some but thanks for the offer.
what do you drive? If I had to guess, I'd say its some type of hybrid. a Volt, maybe?!?!
#thingswegottaknow
If by hybrid you mean an SUV that's also a convertible, you're correct. ;)
alright well I was close. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that it's either black or silver. Am I close?
You're close enough that you only need to change three values in the RGB code.
I'll take it
What he means is that if you look at his avatar, it's a red jeep.
Also, note his name - Hokie Jeep.
I bet I can guess, in one try, his vehicle of choice.
So.... How much do you get paid for doing those Captain Obvious commercials?
Less than I got for doing the most interesting man commercials but they're a lot easier.
You're close but just a tad off on the color. Red isn't very Hokie.
Then it must be the same color as my wife's Wrangler.
I see your wife and I have very good taste.
Connecting the dots...Hokie Jeep is Egbert's wife! I've solved the case!
But we've established that HokieJeep has good taste, so that cannot be right. /s
If it's on regional sports networks, will it also be on ESPN3?

ABOUT DAMN TIME!!/s
That had to come up on a Monday.

On the bright side, we're not playing them at Heinz Field...
Ugh.
May be selling my tickets then.
I need two for that game. Please keep me in mind if you do that.
For sure.
I've got four for sale. Great seats, Section 20, Row P. Right on the goal line and right above the locker room door. Plus the parking pass in Lot 7. I can't go because I'll be at the State Fair.

Back to normalcy.
Maybe instead of "LET'S GO" - "HOKIES", we can chant "BOOMER" - "NOONER" before Enter Sandman. /s
LET'S PLAY
LATER
It's a sad week when I see this news before I get to read French's analysis of the previous game...
Even the best best teams play noon or earlier games, FSU had an 1130 start this year. OK and MSU played noon games this past week and MSU and UGA play noon games this week.
If only those flash images were images of past VT noon games then it would be perfect....funny nonetheless
edit: now it's just an image for some reason.....I'm going crazy
Changed it back for you ;)
That is epic
I shamelessly reused this from my post in the original Frank Beamer Milkshake dot GIF thread
This needs all the legs. Can GuitarHokie give +10 as well as -10?
Alas, I have but one leg to give.
OH YES!!! I am so excited

BREAKFAST TAILGATE!!

All my favorite foods and bloody marys with mimosas and how can I forget
/s
via GIPHY
I'll let is slide this time Whit but remember..
Wait... Are you saying you didn't breakfast tailgate for the first two games?
I know. I sit here shocked.
We do Irish coffee and cheesy BLTs and scrambled eggs with salsa for breakfast.
Then again, maybe they get there too early for breakfast.

I'm actually happy with this. Opening day of hunting season here so I can hunt all morning, come in, get lunch and watch the game and head back out for the evening hunt. The 3:30 game woulda cut out the evening.
Literally the only positive about Noon games, although I won't be in the treestand for this one.
I am happy too. These later games are killing me on the other side of the world.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh 9 AM games can blow me (West coast FTL sometimes...)
Knowing that you're a woman makes this post even funnier.
Guess we'll be eating beereal for breakfast on October 3.

Here's a beer and cereal pairings guide for everyone to keep handy.
Just go with this...

Dang, that is the game my parents are coming for. I was thinking of taking them to the Bowman room for a nice relaxing lunch before the slow stroll over to the Hokie Village and then to a 3:30 game.
So, regional sports networks is like MASN?
ACC Network
Don't think so:
Saturday, Oct. 3
Pitt at Virginia Tech, RSN, Noon
Louisville at NC State, ACC Network, 12:30 p.m.
Florida State at Wake Forest, ABC, ESPN or ESPN2*, 3:30 p.m.
North Carolina at Georgia Tech, ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.
Boston College at Duke, RSN, 3:30 p.m.

If you are in the DC area I think it'll be on Comcast. Usually the same channel that the Caps are on.
For a current college student.....
Yay! The regional ACC network here in central PA will DEFINITELY have this one.
At least it better...
Really hoping I get it out here in MN. Otherwise you guys will be getting some 30fps ESPN3 film in the reviews.
Please, Lord, not ESPNU. My only experience calling a game was my son's 4th grade Pop Warner game years ago, but I think I could have done a better job than those guys on the Purdue game.
Do you normally get 24fps?
It's like watching a Hokie game on Tecmo Bowl for NES.
I'll be in Charlotte for a wedding that weekend. Any Charlotte Hokies know what channel the game will be on?
As a student this would have made me cry into my shower beer. As an aging alum, I find this news to be delightful. I don't like getting old.
+1 for shower beer. Its gonna sound weird i know but our fraternity had communal showers and there was nothing better on game day than to get a cooler of cold ones after a win and throw a party in the shower. There were more girls than brothers there before anyone asks

Holy crap you are right. TKP media needs to be asking the hard questions of the AD.
RSN still has a tv time interest, because they have to have the proper flexibility for the channels. Whit only gets to set the time for ESPN3.
The only way I like to go through October is with an awkward sunburn, so I'm excited.
"Regional sports network"
Sigh. - fan in South Dakota.
It's on in a lot of regions. Here's the list of networks that carried the Central Michigan at Syracuse game last Saturday: http://www.theacc.com/news/acc-football-on-rsn-central-michigan-at-syrac...
It's usually the same cable channels every week for RSN.

Once upon a time, there were 21 bars in downtown Blacksburg. People would try to have one drink at each one and called it 'the Crawl.'
I don't know how many bars there are now but don't try that.
Also, don't try bar golf unless you have a good handicap
Like a wheelchair for your drunk ass
Hokie House for Happy Hour 5-9pm
Then Big Al's/Sharkey's
And you have to get a rail at TOTS even though the cover will be $5 for gameday
Sharkey's was always too packed during the year for my tastes. I'd end up with a fatty mug of something or a triple at the end of HH happy hour...and that would last me long enough until it was time to move to TOTS

You ain't even mad that you got on the wrong plane and ended up in Detroit.
wow..this is epic
lol
Put the bunneh back in the box!
I thought about using that one, but couldn't work it in properly. :(
ESPN is show that the game will be on ESPN3 now. Hopefully that makes it watchable for more folks.
Really? A nooner on ESPN3?
And they don't even list it as being on watchESPN.
just imagine what would have been if Pitt didn't lose their RB Conner
I imagine it will be this one:
10/03 12:00 PM EDTCollege Football ESPN3
It just doesn't have the teams listed, but it should be on there.
Don't they usually put the nooners on the Ocho?
This might seem stupid, but can someone explain to me the difference of watchespn and ESPN3??
Seems both direct me to the same thing, I'm just essentially watching it online.
WatchESPN is the app/website to watch ESPN channels, while ESPN3 is a "channel" that is available on WatchESPN (both live and in replays).
But with another big difference. Sometimes WatchESPN will black out a show on ESPN3' ESPNU and you have to watch it on replay.
WatchESPN isn't blacking out ESPN3, because the only way to watch ESPN3 is through WatchESPN. If you type ESPN3.com into your browser, it goes to the WatchESPN site.

Cheers to Mimosas and sausage gravy.
Damn that Paul Johnson.
But really, why is ESPN picking the FSU Wake game? Is every team guaranteed at least one, and they pick Wake/FSU so no one will watch and think "FSU looks as good as those SEC teams?"
Because Wake is the defending transitive national champ
Here is where the Raycom affiliates that are carrying the game should eventually be listed:
http://www.theacc.com/news/acc-football-on-rsn-pitt-at-virginia-tech-10-...
And here is the full list of Raycom affiliates for ACC games, I'm assuming that not every affiliate carries every game since they have game specific affiliate page as well:
http://www.raycomsports.com/theacc/matchCenters/publicAffiliates/301
Slight misconception in there. RSN is not Raycom. The RSN games are produced by Fox Sports, via a sublicense. If Fox Sports had a regional channel in every market, they would probably just list it as "Fox Sports Net". However, there is no FSN in the mid-Atlantic region, and that area is covered by Comcast.

(Seriously, after having these deals for several years, I'm not sure why there's so much confusion around here every time we're not on a channel with the letters ABC or ESPN in the name.)
Back in my day we celebrated nooners with a little known southern delicacy referred to as beermosas
Those are delicious with a nice Saison or Farmhouse Ale. Actually, I think that's what I will drink for the game. Thanks for the inspiration.
