Really hope Corey Marshall can make it out there

He really looked in pain on Saturday.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

He has been dealing with a foot problem too

Yea, that is what looked like was bothering him against Pitt. I've had that injury before... something you can fight through with some adrenaline, but then again, I was on the soccer field, not trying to push against a 300lb man or two. Rain probably didn't help either.

"What are you going to do, stab me? - Quote from Man Stabbed

Wait a tic-Riley hurt his quad!?

Hope it isn't a tear or he might not be back for a month.

If he tore a quad he wouldn't be probable... he'd most likely be out for the season.

Leonard. Duh.

A mild to moderate quad tear only takes a few weeks to heal. If it was a minor tear, which feels like muscle tightness, he could play on it.

Just thinking back to Barquell Rivers... He never got right after his tear; missed a season and a half.

Leonard. Duh.

His was probably severe then. At that point you can't hardly walk. I had a moderate tear a few months ago and the biggest problem was using stairs.

Fuck dammit. Please dammit. No. I feel like he's been one of the more consistent players on our secondary. Fuck dammit!

I really want Brewer to be awesome and have a great conclusion to his career. That being said, I really am worried he is risking re-injury here.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Agreed, I'm gonna be super nervous for him if he trots out there Friday night.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

So you don't want him to trot out for the turkeys...

Couldn't resist, I'll see myself out.

"What are you going to do, stab me? - Quote from Man Stabbed

Maybe I'm super dumb, and not seeing this the right way, but my question is, if he has a plate and screws, what more healing could there be, and what is another two, three, four weeks going to buy him as far as the risk goes?

I get not wanting a sprain to become a tear or a break, but they fastened his collarbone together with metal so he could do this. Unless there is too much pain, and the doc is cool, let him play.

Leonard. Duh.

I've been saying the same thing as my knowledge of healing bones is non-existent. However, some people have been saying the bone shattered and will take a little while to fully heal, the plate just holds it in place. But I also heard Brewer describe it as straight crack perpendicular across the bone and if you've got a plate and screws holding those ends together, it shouldn't break again. In my mind, the only thing he is dealing with at this point should be the pain from surgery and the ache from accepting metal inside the body. But I'm no doctor.

He's no good to me dead.

Heard somewhere on here that it broke in three places. You're still right, if the plate holds it should be fine. But a plate covering three breaks, I imagine that isn't a small plate. Get some torque up on either end of that and it could be a bad situation.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

As you should be. Screws? A plate? This dude should not be standing in the pocket behind our OLine this soon if the objective is to make sure he doesn't get injured again. If I was a doctor, I'd be asking myself this "Do I think Michael is in good enough shape to get slammed to the ground by a 300 pound D1 athlete?" Is there a way in the world that the answer is yes?

On the other hand, if you assume Brewer knows the risk and wants to play (which he probably does because there is no NFL career ahead of him), and He can contribute something to this team in any game....then......play the guy for as long as you can and let the chips fall where they may. It's not like we've got a Coastal Division cushion to sit on.

"How you doin', Randy?"

A plate and screws is the traditional fix for a broken collar bone so it is not that radical.

"Do I think Michael is in good enough shape to get slammed to the ground by a 300 pound D1 athlete?"

When is anyone ever in good enough shape to do that?

Back to French's original comment, as with any injury, there will always be risk of re-injury. Nice to meet you captain.

And I don't really understand this "the o-line played poorly last week, so Brewer shouldn't play" argument. Could you imagine a coach saying, "Yeah, we had no confidence in our O-line and we would much rather have QB2 take all the hits than QB1." How do you expect to win a football game with this mentality?

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Well...he didn't fare too well when healthy and slammed to ground by anOSU lineman...

We put the K in Kwality

Yep...kinda hope he does not play...just to give him a little more time to heal. Kinda hard to believe he is healed and ready so fast.

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death....... I assure you, it's MUCH more serious than that" ...Bill Shankly

Well unfortunately we have a few coaches who are worried about their careers and legacies so they are likely to do what is best for themselves vice their players unfortunately. I would love to be proven wrong on this point but their treatment of Motely last week leads me to no other conclusion.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
โ€œI served in the United States Navy"

I think that's a rather bold assumption of the coaches, and quite frankly, ignorant. Do you really think the coaches would consider risking the health and safety of one of their players just to give themselves a better chance to keep their jobs? I honestly have more faith in our coaches. If Motely went back out there after getting injured, it is because he told the coaches he was fine and wanted to play. This could be Motely's way of trying to prove his toughness similar to Brewer. The medical staff evaluated him and he was fine.

A lot of people have been calling for Frank Beamer's head the last couple weeks given the circumstances of a few words to the media and the final score in a couple games. And maybe it is time for Frank to hang up his hat. Its probably true that he is behind the times with recruiting/coaching etc. But don't lose sight of who Frank Beamer is as a person. He's a good man that always wants the best for his players and I have no doubt in my mind that he would do anything for anyone of them. And I think his staff reflects that as well. No, the coaches are not letting their job security impact the health and safety of the kids.

He's no good to me dead.

Agreed. I brought this argument up a in another thread, but I love the contrast in comments when we are winning vs. losing so I'll bring it up again.

Brewer separated his shoulder last year vs. UVa and came back into the game to lead the comeback-for-the-win drive. I wish I had a nickel for every comment on TKP crediting Brewer's toughness and mentioning that game and how great that is.

Fast forward to last weekend (Does that make sense?) and people are questioning the coaches morals because Motley got back into the game with what was most likely a stinger/soreness.

The difference? We lost. QBs were taking hits in both games.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Funny you mention the Brewer shoulder thing. I made this exact reference in another thread just a couple hours ago. We're really on the same page with this stuff.

Also, I drive a BMW...

He's no good to me dead.

Since when did common sense become a rarity?

And unfortunately, I do not drive a BMW, I was just going for the whole BMW=Beamer thing.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

People tend to let their emotions cloud their judgement and common sense. As an engineer, my tendency is to think with my mind before my heart, which gets me in trouble with the Mrs. quite often.

Also, let me point out my license plate:
Beamer on a Beamer

He's no good to me dead.

As an engineer, I also get into trouble with the Mrs. girlfriend because of my logic. And maybe it should be known that my license plate reads "BMWBLL."

Things are starting to get weird between us two..I'm thinking bunkbeds.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

He's no good to me dead.

Brewer has been cleared medically to play this week , but I don't think these coaches will play him . A re-injury or a injury of any kind, this soon would create a very bad perception by some of this program. Am not advocating "play or sit" , but think everyone involved will be overly and very cautious with this decision. As they should be.

georgebd

Is this really any different than what Brewer himself would be thinking?

"Is this any different than what Brewer is thinking". I don't know what Brewer is thinking or telling these doctors or coaches , but I do know he is a competitor & wants to be back on the field as soon as possible. Most of these players are taught to play through pain. My personal experience for what it's worth. At the age of 17 I broke my right arm , early in the season playing high school football ( a clean break) . After 4 weeks and a visit to the orthopedic surgeon an x Ray was taken and after a lot of persuasion and pleading I was able to convince the dr & coaches that I could play with a soft wrap on the arm. First game back I reinjured the arm requiring further treatment, and 53 years later still do not have full use of this arm and have pain every day ( arthritis) . I don't know that this second injury would have occurred if I had waited the recommended 6-8 weeks or not, but often wonder. Although these injuries are diagnosed as healed they can be painful for a lifetime . A few weeks over ones life is not that significant and this is just a game . Always err on the side of caution.

georgebd

The risk of reinjury is higher with most injuries - regardless of healing time. And the lifetime of pain is usually set in motion with the initial injury.

I don't know enough about Brewer and his injury to make a diagnosis of whether he should or shouldn't play. And neither does anybody here

not mandated to list when its determined. OUT for year

Interesting they are listing Ricky Walker. Thought they were red shirting him.

We put the K in Kwality

I found that odd too.

and Shai...

Onward and upward

If I understand medical hardship waivers, since Shai has played in games, we will list him on the injury report the rest of the season to establish a paper trail for the application process. Need a record of him being listed as out due to injury to support our claim.

yeah but I thought you had to have red-shirted before you can apply for a medical hardship waiver?

Playing mind games with the NCSU staff.

I see Motley isn't on the list.
I guess the shoulder is 100%.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Just a little dinged up.

I think we'll be okay.

Brewer playing?

I thought I was one of the only ones excited for him to play.

I am ready for us to restart this season on Friday night...

โ€œI hope that theyโ€™re not going to have big eyes and pee down their legs so to speak,โ€ -- Bud Foster

Is that you, Frank?

I'm REALLY hoping this is a ploy from the staff to make NCSU have to take time out of their regular game-plan to prepare for Brewer instead of focusing solely on Motley. I don't want Virginia Tech to get a reputation for putting players on the field who are not ready.

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

He won't be on the field if he isn't ready

Reputation? What schools have this reputation and what schools don't?

Injury reports are mandated and regulated by ncaa, serious consequences for not following reporting rules. Has big influence on the gambling industry.

My hopes and dreams are shattered, but I'm "Probable" for the game.

Druckenmiller the shotgun snap, fakes short, fires it deep into the end zone it is....caught! It is caught for a touchdown by Jermaine Holmes with 47 seconds left!

I am probable as well from the mancave with a mini-fridge stocked with beer provided the kids cooperate and go to bed early. Definitely in by Halftime!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
โ€œI served in the United States Navy"

If brewer plays I remove all legs for the coaching staff. I am no where near a doc . But just can't see that being a sound decision. However if a qualified medical professional says he's good then I guess he is. Stilled pissed how they let not go in that last series. I am not one calling for Lawson he needs more time but at that point the game was lost and you put in a injured motley that can barley get up after being sacked. On a side note one of the last sacks the Pitt d player patted him on the back cause he knew mot was a stick dummy at that point so props and class points to that player

The game wasn't lost... We were just down by one score.

โ€œI hope that theyโ€™re not going to have big eyes and pee down their legs so to speak,โ€ -- Bud Foster

When go we get Willenbrock back?

We were only down by 1 score true but at that point it was obvious what we were doing was not working.. So why put a injured motley in there if any thing Lawson would of been a change of pace .. But it's over and done with. You made a good point ..

Guarantee if he makes a 1st down instead of taking one of those sacks and somehow gets a touchdown drive in the final couple plays, you and everyone else is turning a blind eye. It would be a repeat of Brewer and the UVA game last year. Just imagine if Brewer didn't win that game and how we would react with the staff sending him back in right after popping a dislocated shoulder back in.

Losing causes finger pointing. Winning solves everything.

He's no good to me dead.

please no...

I wouldn't read much into it.

"Exit light..."

I'm told NC State has heard....

talk about a game of telephone...

anyway, I'm not worried about Motley struggling...I'm worried about our OL and RBs struggling

Onward and upward

I haven't heard anyone say anything about Lawson on this entire thread. Last time I checked, Brewer had a broken thing, Motley's arm was dead six days ago, and there was a talented true freshman over there that Beamer wanted to take a look at.

You had me at "six days ago".

When did Beamer say he wanted to take a look at Lawson -- particularly in a game that matters?

Is it regular season already?

Wasn't that the gist of his, "We got a guy over there who isn't ready..." statement? Or was that Nijman? I don't think anyone ever knew for certain

This would be so dumb from my point of view, if true.

If he's healthy, he should be starting. If he's not healthy, you don't risk his well-being because your backup is still playing like a backup.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Where would they hear this? Do we now call the opposing coaches and tell them our plans?

Let me repeat: Brewer, do NOT play hero and take hits.

DO: Get ball out to either a receiver or throw away out of bounds, and DO IT FAST. Do not run...We will be pulling for you.

"I play real sports, not trying to be the best at exercising..." - KP

Or when he knows he is going to get sacked, do what Peyton Manning does and just go down avoiding getting hit. Nothing wrong with that.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I thought we pulled for the running plays...

When you take a guy like Brewer and ask him to play safe (or "don't get hurt"), he will definitely get hurt. If he plays, play your game.

We put the K in Kwality

I don't know why but your comment reminded me of this.

(I DON'T HAVE THIS OPINION...JUST THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY, I SUPPORT A HEALTHY ALIVE BREWER)
