I just bought a boat load of miniature candy bars for the Halloween season (easily my favorite day of the year). My roommate and I got into a discussion of our favorite candy bars and I posed the question: Hershey's or Mars?
They've both got some truly great bars but I think I have to give the edge to Hershey's. Something about as a kid being given a gigantic Hershey's bar on Christmas morning........
So anyway, what say you?

Hershey's purely due to smores. S'more what???
Never liked coconut nor almonds and Mars useslots of both where Hershey's tends towards peanut and caramel so, Hershys gets the star.
It just came to my attention that Reese's is actually a division of Hershey's, and that Hershey is the licensed distributor of Kit Kat in the United States. That revelation ended my consideration of the other party. If we are strictly speaking candy bars.
Opening the door to other types of main stream Halloween candy, M&Ms would be one of my Danny Coales or Bryan Randalls, that always delivers. Mini Milky Ways are a nice change of pace back.
But what do I know? I always eat the Whoppers when no one else does. Is that such a bad thing?
Candy corn is like the methamphetamine of Halloween candy.
It's easily made, not hard to get, and while it IS candy, I just don't get much satisfaction from it while still putting my teeth at risk.
M&ms are my cryptonite.
hate to be that guy (not really) but isn't it Kryptonite?
NERDS!
Don't ever apologize for that. Everyone must know how to spell Kryptonite.
I'm not superman so.....
Yes. Put a gun to my head I would choose Hershey's for Reese's but I am not turning down a bag of either. Oh and Halloween is by far the bestest holiday, candy and Sexy Costumes!
Married with two kids!!! Halloween for me is a night of uncomfortable crying kids, wasting gas driving all around town to show of their cute costumes to family, and pissed off wife by the end of the night because I've thrown the plastic two dollar tiara out the window of the car after my kid has taken it off for the 300th time. All for a extremely low amount of candy because "they are too young to have candy, I'll give you one!!".
Oh and the last time I saw a "sexy" costume in person was a few months ago at a Walmart at 1 AM (getting baby medicine) Hovaround 5x5 with angel wings and a "kiss my I'm easy" tank top. Sexy Costumes end two years after college for most people.
My favorite day is the day after halloween, Clearance Candy. (dentist hate me) Also Hershey's better variety and milky ways have no taste.
"Married with two kids!!!"
I resemble this, which is why I enjoy checking out the milfs that dress up while walking their kids around cause looking is all I am allowed to do meow...
Married with 2 kids and the wife still dresses in sexy costumes. Good to be me.
Full disclosure- I've been trying for decades to get her to be Lady Godiva for Halloween and for some reason, she balks.
Hershey's wins because of Peppermint Patties, but I'm a sucker for a milky way.
The actual Mars bar is my favorite candy bar. So naturally it cannot be found anywhere in western civilization. Snickers with almonds is just a close enough facsimile to piss me off that it's not the genuine article.
Having said all that, my BIL is a sales rep for Hershey, and he hooks us up sometimes.
Also, if you aren't aware of the Hershey School, Google it. Milton Hershey forbid the company to use it in advertising, but it's one of the most heartwarming philanthropic endeavors by a major corporation that I'm aware of.
Hershey School is amazing. I read about it a while ago. don't they have a good football program too? I wonder what advertising would have done to it. Chik fil a handles there's pretty good with their charity work.
Also Hersey wins because of the Hershey love for high school football
Milton Hershey just didn't want the company to use it in their advertising, for whatever reason. Of course the company itself claims it was because he didn't want to whore it out (my phrasing, not theirs, obviously). I'm sure he probably had a good reason. But yeah, it is an excellent academic institution in its own right, regardless of the benefactor.
I usually prefer gummy/fruity candy to chocolate, so HARIBO. Like the actual German version of all their stuff. But gun to my head, Hershey's or Mars? Hershey's and it's not close. Reese's and Cookies and Cream seal it.
Ever try the sugar free gummy bears?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EVOSE4?keywords=haribo%20sugar%20fr...
Yea, you want a way to quickly end your constipation. Eat half a bag of these things thinking they are regular gummies. WORST STOMACH FLUSHING EVER!!
Never saw a point to sugar free candy. And I believe these are actually manufactured by Haribo America in Baltimore (most HARIBO stuff you see in stores is), and none of their stuff is even close to as good as the German version.
Mars, hands down. Hershey can't touch the Whatchamacallit bar.
...and now since I have rediscovered whatchamacallits I must go find one. Like 5 minutes ago. Damn you vtfly for making me realize I had forgotten all about these
You. Are. Welcome.
Protip: CVS has them up front by the registers.
All chocolate based candy has some inherent goodness that must not be discounted. I refuse to participate.
Used to have a childhood fantasy about swimming naked through a room filled to the ceiling with M&Ms. As for the competition, I'd cherry pick the best of each and call it even. Don't like the gooey stuff so much, but chocolate and nuts, crispy wafers and chocolate, crispy rice and chocolate, and chocolate and chocolate and chocolate...
I'm starting to understand your childhood fantasy a little better. No judgments.
You went where I thought only I had gone. I mean, think about it, especially from a prepubescent fantasy perspective. Actually, even now, wouldn't it be cool?
I know they aren't so widespread here in the states, but Nestle and Cadbury make some pretty kick ass candy bars for overseas, particularly in the UK.
We have a couple stores here that sell those candy bars, and it's amazing the different tastes made for different parts of the planet.
Also, while I am not being true to the question posed, when discussing supreme chocolatey goodness, there is but one correct answer.
Ok just had a Heath Bar for the first time in years, I forgot how awesome they are so definitely Hershey!
Big fan of The Martian book and movie, but I gotta give the edge to Hershey's.
Mini Krackel and Mr. Goodbar can't be beat. If you have those at your booth at a career fair, I will be giving you my resume.
Mars! Twix bars are my favorite and snickers bars are always clutch.
I like dark chocolate. I like coconut. I like almonds.
So Mounds is the actual winner. Thanks Hershey. Though there is Bounty dark chocolate in Europe by Mars.
Why do they make you choose between an almond (almond joy) and dark chocolate (Mounds)? I almost always feel like a nut AND dark chocolate.
Was there a dark chocolate almond joy at some point?
I don't think so but there really should be. I love them both but Dark Chocolate
Almond Joy's sound like a piece of Heaven.
Hershey's wins for chocolate, M&M/Mars wins for non-chocolate (gum and Starburst, particularly).
Starbursts FTW
Hershey - Reese's (read the signature).
