I haven't been this impressed by Brandon since 2013. He looked great in coverage and pretty much locked down whoever he was on (with the exception of that ticky tack PI call). DBU needs someone to step up big with Kendall out and I think he answered the call against the Wolfpack.
Brandon is back in form. Thoughts?

I don't know who made the call to attack Brandon three times in a row near the end of the game after that PI call, but they made a mad decision.
I said after Facyson nearly picked off a pass earlier in the game, "Please keep throwing it at Facyson." Brissett did, and the end result was not ideal for them.
It sure wasn't ideal. Facyson played lights out.!

I too, was surprised on how much they threw his way but the DBUnit as a whole played pretty good. Hats off to the Adonis for ending Brisset's interception streak!
Adonis pretty much jumped out of the planet for that pick. The kid must have a 44" vertical!

That actually wasn't that bad of a PI call. Facyson got there early and was pretty physical. But, overall, he was definitely a dude.

I agree with both of these. I'll even say that I saw one or two PI calls against NCSt which were questionable. I thought the officiating was relatively good most of the game. There were mistakes, which is normal, but the calls seemed to be pretty consistent. NCSt got away with a couple and VT got away with a couple. No reason to complain about the job the refs did last night.
We definitely got away with a couple. There were a few times I was already angry until I saw there wasn't a flag.
In the stands, it looked to me like the two calls should have been flipped. The one that was called PI looked to me like he was making a play at the ball, which he has the right to do. I thought the 4th down call was interference. I reserve the right to change my mind when I see replay.

On TV, you could see Facyson push the receiver right up under his grill just before the ball got there on the actual PI call.
If you are referring to the 4th down toss into the endzone, it was real close to PI, but that was the beauty of it. It wasn't. Facyson got his arms up in there and 100% played the ball. One of the better breakups I've seen in awhile.
The one in the endzone, from some angles looked like a PI but in one angle you can see that even though his arm was around the receiver, he never touched him with it and stayed open hand.
That's why it wasn't PI.

Facyson deserves some love for sure, but Terrell Edmunds and Adonis Alexander have both improved already during this season and have impressed me.
This. Both Adonis and Terrell Edmunds look like they're going to be real good. Edmunds had some clutch open field tackles when we needed them.
As lights out as Facyson was I was wondering why they weren't throwing at Edmunds much. Was coverage that good from the redshirt freshmen, or was Brisset just throwing at Brandon so much because he is a glutton for punishment?
From what i saw ,without breaking anything down, part of it was NC states tendencies & part of it is how bud used what they like to do to play into his strengths. Was a very (once again) high-risk high-reward game plan. The "best" read for the qb is where he funneled to his players strengths. And Much better execution from the nickel and Mike positions that helped. Side note, RVD is turning a corner a bit. He's looking like hes playing with his feet untied when it's his time.
Facyson, Alexander, Edmunds, Clark. Those DUDES are playing lights out. You could say they are playing their nuts off. You could even quote me on that.

The stats below were calculated before the Hokies played the Wolfpack, but they confirm Facyson is off to a great start in 2015.
I think Facyson allowed 1 completion in about 6 targets against NCSU. And Burress allowed quite a few completions

Facyson wants to be a surgeon when he is done with football. I imagine he will be getting his degree first before the NFL.
Or he might surprise everyone and forego the NFL for Med School. If you're a surgeon, you're gonna make bank for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer than the average NFL player, plus, if you get hurt and have neurological damage that shakes the hands, goodbye performing surgery.

They kept trying to attack him late, didn't work. Huge confidence game for a guy who probably needed one.
Yea, I felt he had his confidence back to a certain extent before. He has quietly been playing fairly well, but with a game like last night against (who I think is) an excellent QB, that is big for him heading forward. Intangibles like momentum, swagger, and bravado are understateted facets of skill position players' game. I think he exhibited all one needs to see last night. Aside from riley and clark, he's our elder DBU statesman, so to speak. Without Kendall, especially, we are going to need this rustless Facyson.
My two takeaways were

Facyson had the the dork magic twitch -- you could see bolts of energy leaping from his extremities, and maniacal laughter in his eyes - zinging.
Brandon is always right there in coverage. However, I hate the technique they teach them to not watch the ball. It is so hard to time knocking the ball away when you can't see it. He got called for one PI and could have had another in the end zone. Any good receiver can draw that PI every time if he knows what he is doing. I love Facyson but hate that technique. I don't get it. I think it takes too much luck to make it work cleanly - let's use his skills instead.
Seems they could mix it up a bit.
The technique is good, but you're right, it can be exploited and isn't always needed.
The tape NC State was watching on Facyson must have been from last year, when he was playing injured.
He has been very good. It was surprising that they went after Clark and Facyson, and left Alexander, Edmunds, and Riley alone in the passing game.
I think it was defensive alignment in the 4th quarter. NCSU was running 11 personnel (1TE, 1RB) and Facyson was lined up 1on1to the boundary side WR while Riley and Mook manned up on the two field side WR, with a safety over top giving them top cover.
Obviously Facyson could handle the deep passes on his side just fine on his own.
Facyson played great, but why not give credit to Chuck Clark for being our best DB all season long. Lead the team in tackles. Again.

I would say with 100% confidence that Chuck Clark struggled more than any defender this game. It looked like he took quite a few bad angles and was afraid to make an offensive player make the first move in the open field. Not his best game IMO.
And had a sack or TFL and a couple of blocked passes.

8 solo 2 assist for 10 total. Looks like Clarke really was in on all the tackles. 1 solo 6 assist for 7 total (Via Hokiesports.)
Led or tied in tackles against Pitt, Furman, and Ohio State too. I know that's not the end-all defensive stat, but I don't think he gets enough credit.
