So many exciting fanboy moments, yet still left with so many exciting questions!!!
The facial expressions by Finn are great and his "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" expression when Kylo Ren stepped at him was great. No more choregraphed fight scenes like the prequels.
Kylo Ren's voice is menacing fits perfecting!
Han Solo acknowledging that the Force is real. Big turn around from his original beliefs. "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." A New Hope (Han has seen some shit)
If I were a betting man I see Luke playing a tiny but powerful role in this movie to build a larger role in the next movie.

Two questions: 1) Have the storm troopers spent the entire time with target practice? Seriously, never seen so many point-blank misses. 2) Why the hell don't R2D2 and C3PO know who Vader is? For God's sake, he created C3PO and spent years there when Anakin when to train to be a jedi...then immediately knew him ("the creator"). He'd used the story as a "look what you can do if you put your mind to it" example to the young ones at the Jedi Academy once.
Obi-wan obviously knew about it and held it over his head during the Clone Wars veteran reunions.
Organa wouldn't even return Vader's calls or meet with him for coffee, so blowing up the planet was the only way to deal with that one.
The emperor didn't even bother to read that line on Anakin's resume, but it was there. At that point, everyone who could have possibly known was dead. After all, he'd made sure that C-3PO got scrapped back on Cloud City.

At least in episode IV, I always considered the bad marksmanship of the stormtroopers to be explained within the movie.
HAN: Not a bad bit of rescuing, huh? You know, sometimes I even amaze myself.
LEIA: That doesn't sound too hard. Besides, they let us go. It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape.
HAN: Easy... you call that easy?
Other than a little bit in the cell block when they surprise a couple officers and when they're taking cover further back in the cell block, every blaster fight they have with the stormtroopers is after Tarkin has been notified that they're trying to rescue Leia and come up with his plan to put a tracking device on the Millennium Falcon and follow them to the Rebel base. This also explains why a station with 1000s of TIE fighters only had 4 patrolling in the immediate area during their escape.

There is a theory that Luke has vanished due to his constant fear that he could change to the dark side. He is believed to be on a remote island away from all human contact which only builds upon increase that "the force" is just myth and stories for kids to hear by this part in the stories timeline.
I truly don't expect to see Luke until either the fight scene between Kylo and Finn or during the part that you see what looks like Rey and company walking into a temple of some sort with a big red robot passing by but I could definitely see Luke being all mysterious and we as fans completely miss that it was him till the very end for a Holy shit moment!

And I would be ok with either of these scenarios! To kind of augment your first point, I also read a theory where Luke is hiding out because he fears the force becoming known at all because once it does, that means the Sith are reborn as well. ...Now that I think about it, this sounds exactly like your first point...carry on. ha
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I have a theory that this is the build up for that exact situation to happen. Due to Luke's involvement and Kylo messing around with 'the force" (just my guess since he is a huge Vader Fan) I could see the rebirth of the Sith but it is known that there is never just one Sith. I can see a huge cliff hanger where because of all the increase use of the force, Luke will be needed and then is vital to help train the new Jedi's in the next movie in their fight against two Siths. Could be wrong, probably am but damn that would be sweet.

Could be, didn't think of that, could be a cool twist and definitely makes sense why Finn looks so confused all the time with all this crazy stuff going on with him. Also remember that Leia had twins as well. So I know the Rey is probably Leia's daughter but where is her sibling. I have heard some far fetched rumors that Finn could be the brother but I really don't see that. I don't see them leaving out the other sibling completely. My theory is Kylo and Rey are the Solo twins.

Last I recall everything that existed pre-Disney sphere of influence, that's after ROTJ is more or less considered non-canon...so no I don't think they are part of the new movieverse anymore.

That I agree with you on. We'll see. Im not expecting it though, but then again they made 800 yr old yoda kick ass in the prequels so I guess anything is possible

Just the sounds. The screech of the TIEs, the sound of the dogfights (X-Wing & Tie Fighter Collector's Edition 2 of the greatest PC games of all time). The music, everything about that trailer just says "STAR WARS" to me, where the prequels just never had anything close to that feeling.
I personally enjoyed Abrams Star Trek movies, I am not a Star Trek fan but they were entertaining. I think he is going to hit these out of the park. And if not they are still doing an amazing job with the marketing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Abram's included of fan's idea's and opinion before going into the production of this movie. I know there was a great and loud cry to stick to the novel series and that if closely followed it would be a success with the type of things Abram's does well as a director. Of course he will add his twist but Kevin Smith is a huge Star Wars nerd and was very critical of the prequels and he is friend's with Abrams. From all accounts, Kevin has loved all that he has heard and seen about this movie and is totally geeking out.

100% agree on the sounds. When the first trailer dropped, and they have that seen with the opening chord from the theme, the Millennium Falcon swooping in and Tie fighters screaming by... No words. I was so amped, and each successive trailer has made me even more pumped for this.

Sorry, but Anakin's blue was lost/destroyed in the first duel between him and Luke at Cloud City on Bespin. It absolutely fell down the garbage shift into the ocean.

C-3PO and R2-D2 ending up in the hands of Anakin's daughter with the plans for the Death Star and then being purchased by Anakin's son who takes them to Anakin's original master? Sounds good.
Anakin's "light side" lightsaber being trawled up by a salvager and somehow finding its way into the hands of a guy who has force powers and is likely to be trained by Anakin's son on the ways of The Force? Nope, no way, no sir. BOGUS.

Alright, who wants to make a wager? Let's have some fun with this. $50 USD that the blue light saber is NOT Anakin's from ROTS, ANH and ESB. Any takers???
Ok. Betting is closed.

Nobody on here is going to bet on something that trivial with someone they don't know. We're not idiots. That doesn't mean anyone is conceding that they think you're correct. I had heard a rumor very early on that the plot would revolve around finding Darth Vader's lightsaber. Anakin was Darth Vader, Anakin's original lightsaber fell into a hole, where it is entirely conceivable it could have been found later by some jawa or droid. Also, just look at the thing. It looks just like Anakin's blue lightsaber. Not just the blue coloring, but the handle. We'll see in two months, but I'm extremely confident that I've called it right.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
One other reason that I think it's Anakin's is that the secret to building new lightsabers is only known to Luke at this point. Think back to how Vader comments that Luke's skills were complete after seeing that he'd built a new lightsaber in RotJ.
I highly doubt that Luke is off making new lightsabers and handing them out to former stormtroopers. We can infer from the roughness of Kylo's lightsaber that he's working with limited knowledge of the technique. Therefore a high-quality blue lightsaber has to already exist before the end of Episode VI, and Anakin's makes sense if you want to give the audience a cool moment when it's revealed (as well as sell a gazillion Finn action figures with blue lightsabers).

I'm not a "fan" of the series but I enjoyed watching them the couple times I have. They're fun little movies with cool effects for their time that told an interesting story and Vader is awesome. I think to really like Episodes 1-3 you had to like the original trilogy since the dialogue and directing can be painful and cringe worthy at times. That and Lucas needed to be told "No that's a terrible idea" more.
The other issue is to really understand everything you need to read the cannon novels, comics, and TV miniseries which fleshes everything out and makes the story much more interesting and coherent. My turning point from "meh" was playing KOTOR which got me to read up on everything.

I think the thing about the Original Trilogy that much of our generation dont appreciate that I try to stress is that these movies are almost 40 years old. They were the first of their kind and compared to today, they were extremely limited in terms of technology. How do you make up for that? Story. I made my brother's gf watch them for the first time and she walked away incredibly bored. That was when I realized you have to lose yourself in the story and not be so worried about action (which is still excellent when it takes place) or how long the movies may take to pick up.

Exactly! My kids are teenagers and they really couldn't watch the original trilogy all the way through. Partly because they watched in order where as myself, as a young lad, could not.
The immediate gratification generation!

Just a thought after watching the trailer again. Do you think Poe Dameron could be brainwashed or under Kylo's control, or even be on the dark side and sent back to the rebel side to mess stuff up?
The reason I ask it during the trailer we first see Poe yelling no with Kylo passing his hand over his face. Then we see Poe as he passes Finn and pats Finn on the back which in turn Finn turns, kinda like he felt something. Also the voice over of Han is perfectly timed to say "the darkside" as shots of stormtroopers and then Poe walking by. Then Han says, " A jedi" when Finn turns around to look at Poe.
Probably over analyzing, but its the fan boy in me
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't think that's an over-analysis at all. One of the core themes of the series has always been that Jedi can be turned to the Dark Side and back again. They also have spent a fair amount of time on how the Dark Side can control people's thoughts via manipulation. When Obi-wan mind tricks various people over the years, I always got the hint that he was tapping into a darker force that a Sith would fully incorporate into his tools.

I was hearing a lot of speculation that he was actually "force choking" his brain, or something to that effect to cause pain, but your theory is entirely possible

Idk I really don't think luke is kylo ren. The evidence is the unstable red saber ren sports. Luke knows how to construct a saber since he's done it before. His red saber wouldn't be so flawed
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Does anyone else think that a character from the movie will be introduced in Rebels sometime this season? I'm wondering if we might see Kylo Ren as one of the inquisitors at some point.
A side note related to Kylo Ren is that his helmet is very similar in appearance to Darth Revan's mask from the Knights of the Old Republic games.

I have the X-Wing Trilogy collectors set that had X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing: Alliance (along with the demo "Flight School" version of X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, the full version of which I later picked up separately) and still play them, though not as often as I used to.

Yea, but the 'correction' was only to state that we don't know.... We're talking about theories here. So, no, I don't think you were corrected. How can you be corrected when no one knows the new story?
All we do know is that the books written after RotJ are no longer canon.

yea I worded that wrong but you are correct and there is no right or wrong unless 1) every species and alien speaks English and 2) the fight scenes look like dance routines off of dancing with the stars.

They could have made movies based off of those books and made a fortune. Thrawn was the best villain in the entire SW Universe outside of Vader himself. He wasn't really "evil" either in the classic sense.

I'm not actually sold that they are bro and sis, and if they are bro and sis, i really don't think they are related to the main characters, which would lead me to believe that Luke wouldn't have trained them.
I used to think that they would be inspired by the non canon solo twins, but i just don't see how you turn into a sith wannabe with a dad like Han, and Abrams has said that he wants this story to be about new characters, and I don't see how you do that with Han's son.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Man, I don't know. There was something floating around that Han/twins/etc were captured right after their birth and only Han/Rey escaped from the Empire.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If han and rey escaped from the first order, then why are they seemingly meeting each other for the first time in the trailer?
You are talking about two of the most prolific people in the galaxy (H&L). If their children get kidnapped, it would be much more obvious in the trailer. Han is an elite smuggler, he would find his kids.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Jumpin Jeezus, my gawd. Didn't know this was going to be a headache in the works. If they were captured at birth or as infants, anything could happen and they wouldn't know who their parents were.
Ill leave it at that. Im out.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I hope that's not the case. Because that's basically the plot in the background of the first trilogy. I want new plot. And limited callbacks to the old movies. Cause they did that in several recent Bond movies, and it got old fast.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I find that this is the opinion for a lot of people. I like the idea of callbacks to the old movies, when Han arrives is when I am most hype while watching the previews. I do, however, want an original story and not a re-hashed one for the next Skywalker/Solo generation.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
When I say callbacks, I don't mean just having Han there. I liked that. Even reusing Luke's monologue in the trailers is well done. I'm talking where they do like shot-for-shot repeats of scenes, or try and force certain things into the plot just so we believe they've seen the old movies. Think Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace, strewn across the bed covered in oil. We get it, Sam Mendez, you saw Goldfinger. So did we, now lets move on to the present movie. That's what I'm hoping we avoid in SW7.

I know it's off topic but I haven't been a huge fan of the style the new JB's movies with Daniel Craig. Great actor and definitely not his fault but the whole persona of Bonds is a lot more serious of a theme now and I miss the cockiness and swagger that the old Bond movies had. I mean less desperation, and sneaking around and more lady killer would be nice. I mean that's why most men wanted to be Sean Connery, plus the accent.

I'm finding myself appreciating them for what they are, but my excitement has gone down each movie. I loved CR, but Skyfall was very not james bondish to me. I think spectre will make or break this iteration for me

I think this is already in the "wants to do it" pipeline, just waiting for the release of the new SW movies. Brooks hinted at it back in February.
If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out, you know, maybe a couple of months later, Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, I'd have a big weekend, you know, no matter what, even if it fell on its ass and you know, didn't get that money back
But that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would, you know...I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he'd do it, and I've still got me.
Wouldn't be real Spaceballs without John Candy, though. :(

The loss of John Candy ranks up there with Robin Williams on the type of void they left. As for story plots Barf was half dog so dogs don't live as long as humans.
Replacement for Barf in no particular order:
Tyler Labin
TJ Miller (this guy is hilarious)
Danny McBride (if he doesn't play it like he does every role, a high overly sensitive want to be BA)
maybe Kevin James (Paul Blart still leaves a bad taste in my mouth)
Won't even waste my money if:
Zach Galifianakis
Seth Rogan
Jonah Hill

Could be wrong, probably am but damn that would be sweet.
I would seriously love to talk star wars with you! Everything you've posted up here has sounded spot on
It's a mixture of fanboy meets imagination and theories from other sources like reddit, who know more than me.
What do you think the chances are that Finn's last name is Calrissian? Just an off the wall theory I had just now haha
Is it confirmed that the solo's having twins is cannon? With everything being rewritten I have no idea what to believe
Last I recall everything that existed pre-Disney sphere of influence, that's after ROTJ is more or less considered non-canon...so no I don't think they are part of the new movieverse anymore.
Hmmm, damn would have been a neat wrinkle.
Or they could go in a completely different direction. Remember, there are always two Sith, a master and an apprentice...
Kind of hard to miss the guy missing his right hand. Go back and re-watch the trailer. He is there at the 1:40 mark
I want to see Jedi Master Luke's full force potential unleashed.
Also Disney has taken Marvel to a good place since acquiring them, so I have some faith for Star Wars.
They keep forgetting to show the scene where someone is feeding Jar-Jar to a rancor so we all get to cheer...

Does fried by force lightening work for you?
Is the dude playing the Emp supposed to be spoofing George W!? LMAO!!!
No its a play on Trump's TV show.
Who is the character at 1:03. Isn't that Luke or someone else.

Reminds me of this:
Calling it now, the blue lightsaber that black dude has is actually Anakin's original.
Sorry, but Anakin's blue was lost/destroyed in the first duel between him and Luke at Cloud City on Bespin. It absolutely fell down the garbage shift into the ocean.
Anakin's virgin birth? Sure, no problem.
BOGUS.
Its Anakin's saber
http://dorksideoftheforce.com/2015/04/24/star-wars-the-force-awakens-why...
Sorry, but until I hear/read/see something that literally ties it together it's only speculation and conjecture.
Fair enough. But you have to admit the resemblance is super close.
Episode IV:

Episode VII Trailer:

Respectfully, SUCK IT.
Confession: I've never seen a star wars film
Confession: I have never understood why everyone is obsessed with Star Wars. I never could get into those movies.
This is by far the closest I have ever been to -1'ing for disagreeing with an opinion. I held back, but it was close.
I respectfully disagree. I have ONLY watched the movies, and I understand just about everything and enjoy them (at least 4-6) thoroughly.
You say that as if it's a bad thing.
Oh no not at all. Just look at the slop that was created with the prequels...
Yeah, they sucked.
And I don't mean a little, I mean Death Star imploding sucked.
Don't forget that between episodes one and two, they went from suck to blow.
Can't seem to find an appropriate gif for this.
HR be all like
Very strange. Best I could find was the switch.
WHOAH WOAH WOAH. Please link to NSFW gifs...
kidding
Exactly! My kids are teenagers and they really couldn't watch the original trilogy all the way through. Partly because they watched in order where as myself, as a young lad, could not.
The immediate gratification generation!
Once I saw Chewbacca I was in.
Probably over analyzing, but its the fan boy in me
I am accepting this as fact until proven otherwise!
Seconded. Motion carries.
Notice how Luke is the only one we haven't seen in the trailers, yet?
Unless we have been seeing him, but his face has been covered up by some kinda mask................
Most people would barely recognize Mark Hamill now to believe that it's Luke.

Counterpoint:
Obi-Luke Skynobi?
You do see his robotic hand on R2-D2 during the trailer. It's right at the 1:40 mark.
"You do see A robotic hand on R2-D2 during the trailer"
FIFY
Idk I really don't think luke is kylo ren. The evidence is the unstable red saber ren sports. Luke knows how to construct a saber since he's done it before. His red saber wouldn't be so flawed
What if Luke is the Master Sith and Kylo is the Apprentice?
Again, if Luke was the Master, wouldn't you imagine that he'd make a solid, stable lightsaber for Kylo?
I thought that was one of the tests for a Jedi, to build your own lightsaber. Apparently Kylo didn't ace the test. But like they say, C's get Degrees!
D is for Diploma
So... F is for what? "F this I can make a perfectly good living without a degree (and without a pile of debt)?"
F is for Financial Misery... as you'll still have all the college debt, just without the diploma to get the job that'll pay it off
Does anyone else think that a character from the movie will be introduced in Rebels sometime this season? I'm wondering if we might see Kylo Ren as one of the inquisitors at some point.
A side note related to Kylo Ren is that his helmet is very similar in appearance to Darth Revan's mask from the Knights of the Old Republic games.
Leg just for KOTOR. I still play through those every now and then, especially KOTOR2.
Kinda hope those get a remastered edition for the XBone.
They do have the first one available as an Android App now
I wish you didn't post this. Crap. Now I'm going to know it exists.
Is it only available in German?
I've had KOTOR on my iPhone for sometime now. Well worth the purchase, it honestly looks better with some hi-res than it did on the original XBox.
Easily the best Star Wars game in existence behind the early TIE Fighter CD Collector's
I think Kylo Ren is probably a bit younger than 45 (which is based on where Rebels is set in the timeline).
Kylo and Rey are bro and sis. Luke screwed up some sort of training that led Kylo to dark side. Luke goes into seclusion.
I had that theory but I was quickly corrected above and with good reason why.
AND by the way... for all Star Wars nerds out there.....
The Thrawn Trilogy is a must read.
Could be he doesn't know that Han is his dad. I do think that one or both are related to Luke/Leia.
How? Did he fall out of the Falcon or something? Did they put him up for adoption?
And like the guy below me said, thats basically a rehash of the first trilogy.
Luke said, "you don't have enough patience" and kicked him to the curb.
Man, I don't know. There was something floating around that Han/twins/etc were captured right after their birth and only Han/Rey escaped from the Empire.
Jumpin Jeezus, my gawd. Didn't know this was going to be a headache in the works. If they were captured at birth or as infants, anything could happen and they wouldn't know who their parents were.
Ill leave it at that. Im out.
lol, i thought we were having a pretty cool discussion.
I hope that's not the case. Because that's basically the plot in the background of the first trilogy. I want new plot. And limited callbacks to the old movies. Cause they did that in several recent Bond movies, and it got old fast.
I find that this is the opinion for a lot of people. I like the idea of callbacks to the old movies, when Han arrives is when I am most hype while watching the previews. I do, however, want an original story and not a re-hashed one for the next Skywalker/Solo generation.
I actually really like that JB reference, because in this "Continuity" or whatever, goldfinger hasn't happened. Thought it was pretty cool imagery
I think spectre will make or break this iteration for me
My biggest hope is that this movie allows for another Spaceballs Movie by an competent and actually funny director and team of writers.
Isn't Mel Brooks still alive to bring the next chapter of the Schwartz!
Spaceballs: The Barely Awake
I think this is already in the "wants to do it" pipeline, just waiting for the release of the new SW movies. Brooks hinted at it back in February.
Seth Rogan
Jonah Hill
Keenan Thompson might be a good pick.
Frank Caliendo can play anyone!
Darth Madden confirmed!
I'd watch that all day.
Somebody put all the trailers together, and here I thought my nerd-boner could only get so big. Silly me
I am impressed with the seamless transitions....
Somewhat related: Jar Jar is not a bumbling idiot, rather he's orchestrating the whole thing?

Japanese trailer released, with new footage:
Footage we've never seen before?! JUST ABOUT A MONTH TO GO?!?!?
Did anyone else laugh at the fact that the trailer released in Japan included a scene that looked strikingly similar to Tora Tora Tora?
Tomorrow.....
...will be the last day of the countdown.
Actually I'm seeing it tomorrow night :D
If I see you on here for the next week and anything is revealed I will find you and I will ki.....give you a giant middle finger.

I'm not going to get a chance to see it till after Christmas.
So will there be Ewoks???
via GIPHY

so when are we getting the Jar Jar spinoff?
I suppose I was the last one to read this, and everyone else already knows Jar Jar was actually a Sith Lord
A post on Reddit about Jar Jar blew my freaking mind. If you haven't read it yet, please invest the time in the Darth Jar Jar Theory.
When Michael Bay stops blowing shit up..

Or when Abrams stops lens flaring it up
Well excuse me for asking...sorry I don't pretend to know a lot
about Star Wars. All I remember liking as a kid were the Ewoks.
...cute lil fellas aren't they?
You know, if you ignore the fact they were going to cook and eat Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie towards the beginning of the movie, and... you know that big feast at the end of it?
Yep....
YES!!
I would hope that the New Order isn't so dumb as to go anywhere near the forest moon of Endor given their failures there in the past. So I kinda doubt we see Ewoks. Now Jawas, on the other hand...
Just saw the movie, and while I've never seen any of the other movies...and not particularly enthralled with the lore...I found it be an ok movie.
If you're wondering why I watched the movie without seeing any of the others...
I agreed to watch it with my wife because watched The Martian with me.
