I hate everything

I hate many things. But a 4OT loss to a team that is better than us and ranked higher than us does not fall into that category

Duke

Eh, Stanford isn't Stanford anymore, either. The pecking order of college football can change.

There were many areas for a VT win...

VT should have won this game. At first it was bad but VT had this game for a win after Duke lost the win it was playing for

Sailing the Eastern Seas....on a ship filled with sand....

That's my reasoning right now as well.

We had a pulse today. Ford and Hodges came through when we needed. McMillan and Rogers are a God send. We put up a fight.

Not saying I'm not still disappointed with the rest of the season though

I really don't like those tats, their a bit, ummm, over the top.

We were favored.

Watching out offense fight like hell to get TDs in OT only to see the defense give up the same in about 2 plays right after is incredibly frustrating.

I don't care who we were playing, what they were ranked or anything like that. We had one unit playing their asses off and another going through the motions. This year our offense has been let down by the defense more times than not. Which seems to be our thing. We can't have both doing well at the same time, it's either one or the other.

Culmination of years of decline in the program and recruiting along with lack of inspiration at the top.......u think this is bad?...wait till next season if same coaches lead this team again

Honestly it will probably be just as bad with a new coach, but at least we would be making progress and working in the right direction instead of just continuing to spiral downward.

I'm not even sure what I feel right now. Disappointment feels like the best word for it, but then that means that I had expectations for something better beforehand....I definitely didn't.

As much as I want to quit on this team, I love Tech and I'll watch them suck against BC next week. Go Hokies.

I would root for the Russians before I would root for Virginia.

The first step towards recovery is admitting that you have a problem.

No, first step is denial and I passed that stage long ago

Denial isn't part of recovery, it's a stage of grief.

Psychology facts don't apply when you have a Hokie problem.

@hokie_rd

And are we not grieving for this season? DBU? Sacksburg? Beamerball (been doing that for a while now)? The program in general?

If you play it, they will win.

Oh, we're definitely grieving.

I was just pointing out a minor technicality.

Grieving and recovery are two different processes.

I know. I was just pointing out that we have plenty of grief as well.

If you play it, they will win.

What's sad is that VT finally has an offense. Not a perfect one, but certainly effective enough.

The defense can't lock anything down consistently. They have their moments, but we're getting a maximum of two quarters per game, even with the offense giving them a pretty good rest. We haven't had a full game of defense the whole year.

Loeffler is getting a lot of criticism, and I believe he deserves some of that. Compared to VT's offenses of the past, however, his offense is pretty good. VT's defense is getting torn apart.

VT did pretty well against a decent Duke team yesterday, and that's mostly on Loeffler and the offense. That wasn't close to the worst game of the season. VT took Duke to the wire.

Worst game of the season would have to be getting pounded by Pitt.

Duke is a average program. They are not good. VT had more talent on the field. This game to be summed up by again poor coaching decisions, bad play clock management and a patch work of defenders who are not ready. I do not understand MOKU still sees the light of day on the field. He can't read plays, get off blocks or tackle in general. If we had a a real MLB this team would probably have 2 more wins.

Duke is something like 25-9 the last 3 years, I'd hardly call that average. And I'm not sure VT had more talent on the field, it didn't look that way to me. I completely agree with your take on our MLB problems though

They are a average program. (You forget ACC coastal is very very weak) And yes VT has more talent. Other than Cash, I wouldn't want any of there other players. (Well maybe we could swap them Motu) Duke is just better coached and more displined. I would say VTs O has some of the best talent I have seen in years. Hodges, Ford, Phillips, McMillan, Rodgers, Mallek. We have enough weapons were a team can't just target one. But of course injuries on D, combined with depth are killing them this year. And lets not forget the poor coaching and decision making.

I think Texas A&M and Arizona State would disagree with this. Both had their hands full with Duke.

@hokie_rd

Simply repeating that VT has more talent doesn't make it so. And for crying out loud learn to spell the players names
Rogers, Malleck, McMillian

But to your point, yes VT has some talent, but every single person you named is on offense, and has been pointed out, the offense did an ok job yesterday, they are the only team to score 20 points in regulation vs Duke.
But to say VT has more talent across the board I think is just a personal opinion more so than fact

Not repeating its a fact...The D started with talent.... Facyson Fuller Reavis, Daddi and Maddy.. Experts were even saying it prior to the season starting.... Lets face in injuries and depth have hurt them.

Looking at Dukes Schedule nothing has convinced me that they are anything but a average team with good coaching... Vice right now we are shitty team with shitty coaching. That still almost beat them... and beat them last year.

You're quite the mountain of joy around here. Re: Comment about whether I am happy with the state of the program right now.

@hokie_rd

Duke has an All-American in Cash and he played like it yesterday. Sadly, we made their QB (Sirk) look like one, too.

Cash is freaking good. I wish he were a Hokie.

More talent maybe today...but look at their recruiting now. Duke has recently "out recruited" us. If we don't correct the course of this ship, we'll be sunk. Clemson just kick the shit out of Miami, and other programs are steadily getting better.

Motu needs to be rotated with Lydon or Huelskamp.

Sometimes I wonder how Buzz would feel about coaching a 2nd sport.

What bothers me most is that all of our enemies (like Le Sabre) are ALL having endless LOLs at our and our team's expense. I can see it now: Complete Meltdown Over at TKP.

That doesn't bother me. It's fine for me that fans of our biggest rival (in theory) mock us when we lose. That's fandom.

I don't blame them. I blame our coaches. We scored enough points to beat Duke if our D and Special teams even played average.

We have a lack of depth that is just unacceptable. We play a type of defense that is high-risk, high-reward, and having multiple players unable to perform their roles is just astonishing to me. If it was just one position you could point a finger -- but it's at DB, on the line, and most disastrously IMO, in the LB corps.

Can't tackle. Can't line up correctly. Can't refrain from stupid penalties. Everyone looks confused and often looks checked out.

After the last 3 years I would have bet hard cash this wouldn't happen. Our offense is obviously improved, and Brewer's game yesterday showed exactly why he was the starter. But our D has completely shit the bed in about as embarrassing a manner as I could imagine.

If this was 4 years ago think how crazy good this team would be

A new season...new hope

This staff is unable to recruit both offense and defense and it shows. We focused on offense and the defense went to hell after years of having an elite defense with a shit offense.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I dont think we focused offense...I think we brought new coaching blood in there and they were able to recruit to their system or atleast land better offensive recruits. I think the Defense has been going to wrong way as along as the offense just bud and the defensive staff have been better at covering up their misses.

A new season...new hope

It pisses me off because I reside in this shithole and am gonna have to deal with it if they choke on the biggun at reg season's end.

This thread is the opposite of Rod in "Jerry Maguire" at the end when he finally gets his big contract during an interview with Roy Firestone. "I love everybody!"

Losing is tough. Nothing is good when you are in that rut. Winning makes everything more enjoyable.

Hope you guys stack up some wins to the end of the season.
