Michael Holmes pled guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge today

He has to pay $13,403 in restitution. Where does a college kid come up with that kinda money?! Also, it says that Kierra Barnes has filed a $25,000 civil suit against him.

I don't like this at all. If the guy that got his ass handed to him was able to leave the hospital that night, then I don't think Holmes exceeded his right to defend himself. And I don't get how a few hours in the hospital costs $13k. I hope he gets reinstated.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Hospitals are damn expensive. Had to take the wife in when she was sick this past fall and without insurance, the bill would have been about $6,000 for laying in a bed for 3 hours having fluids pumped in her. So I can understand a $13k hospital bill because it takes into account everything, not just what his family may have paid after insurance.

Since it's a misdemeanor, does that mean he can play?

He's eligible to return. Weaver gets to decide. Felonies are automatic suspension from the team, misdemeanors are at the discretion of the AD, if I recall correctly.

"Exit light..."

Sounds like he did some damage and is overall a good kid. If I were Weaver, I would let him back in and tell him to channel that power/energy in demolishing other teams defenses.

That's pretty good outcome for him, but I really think our future is with Edmunds and Coleman.

I agree with this....i hope he gets back on the team & is able to contribute, but he just never looked to me like he had 'it' on the field....regardless of our line woes last year.....

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Yeah I think Holmes is done. He'll be reinstated but I think this will always follow him.

I don't think what he did deserved the punishment he's facing. The article states that he and his girlfriend were being followed by his ex, and that the ex assaulted his girlfriend. I suppose I filled in the blanks in my mind, imagining that the ex was following the two of them and harassing them (starting a confrontation) prior to assaulting the gf. I can't imagine a world where you can follow someone around, assault them, and then get paid. You shouldn't be able to get yourself into trouble and then claim it is someone else's fault.

If I were Holmes's girlfriend, I'd sue for $39k for harassment, stalking, assault, and battery. Then pass the money to pay off the hospital bill and lawsuit. If the lawsuit goes through at all.

Now, if Holmes intentionally broke his ex's nose with malicious aforethought, then GTFO of my university.

As far as the other guy is concerned, the way the Post article reads sounds right. If you are threatened by someone you're allowed to defend yourself (or others, if justified) as long as the threat remains. But it sounds like Holmes continued to pound him after the guy quit (willingly or not).

Still can't really discern from these details what Antoine Barnes did overall. Why did he get involved and what did he do? Also still not sure how Ciara Simms got her face borked. Would need to know this detail before judging Holmes.

Ugly situation. Will play poorly in the press no matter what the details say.

This is probably in poor taste...but I can't imagining if Holmes would have hit holes as hard and agressive as this situation seemed to be. If he had this fury in him, it wish he would've used it on the field (legally, of course) and stopped pussy-footing and dancing...
