NCAA Football '14 Demo Up Tomorrow

http://kotaku.com/ncaa-football-14-demo-offers-three-matchups-for-a-new-...

NCAA Football 14 offers three different matchups—Alabama vs. Virginia Tech, Oregon vs. Texas A&M, and the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry—when the game's demo arrives on Xbox Live and Playstation Network tomorrow.

Alabama-VPI will be the preseason Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome; Oregon will play at Texas A&M and Ohio State-Michigan takes place in the Big House. All games have three-minute quarters.

Bold emphasis is mine.

Bonus points to the writer for referring to us as VPI, and #BeatBama

Yea, I think he actually went to NC State a few years back.

I don't plan on buying NCAA 14, but I'll definitely be downloading this and playing it over, and over, and over...

Agreed. I have become disenfranchised with EA Sports titles over the years. Why should I shell out $60 for what essentially amounts to an update, especially when they're just going to shut off the online servers within 2 years, essentially forcing me to buy the next game if I want to continue playing? I can update the rosters and conferences myself, thanks.

I bought 13 thinking that I would have time to play and I never even made it through a season. As you said, there are no major improvements that make it better from one year to the next except updating rosters, conferences, and uniforms. Whoopdie-doo.

Actually! This year, they put in the Infinity Engine from Madden 13, allows for better in-game physics, etc.

It does allow it to play better than last year's game, you don't get as many "sticky" tackles, and there are actually dogpiles in the game now. Also, there is a new Skills Trainer mode, which I think is awesome, because I need to work on that type of stuff haha.

Here's a video on the Infinity Engine: http://youtu.be/nF_9dBuPp04 (I cannot for the life of me figure out how to embed the video...I tried the youtube embedded code, but it just showed a smaller version of TKP's main page....)

It works, it just looks weird in the preview screen. Happened to me before too.

Well thanks for verifying it, I kinda wanted to just put it up to see if it would work, but didn't wanna look like a moron lol.

Are y'all using Chrome, or another browser?

yup Chrome

OK this should be fixed for Chrome users now.

it just showed a smaller version of TKP's main page

That's a bug with the site's CMS, I need to track it down and fix it. Rest assured, if you post a video using the YouTube embed code, it'll show up fine for everyone else, and for you on subsequent views of the thread.

I've noticed this glitch as well and I use Chrome.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I've seen another bug in the preview screen. When I embed an image in the post and add a few words after it, then preview, the first few words of my post are repeated above the image in bold. Happened a few times to me in the last few days, but like this bug, the post is correct, it is just the preview misbehaving a little.

I only buy it when something major has changed in college football. I have '13, so I can create custom conferences (UVA is now in the Atlantic and is now my cross-over team. Goodbye BC!). I will skip this year, but I will grab next year's when Playoffs start.

I am very interested to see where this discussion goes tomorrow after we have all played the demo for a few hours. Who is the starting tailback?? Is Logan slow?? How nasty is Gayle?? ahhhhh

Per Gobbler Country:

Gayle is rated 93 overall with 86 speed, 81 strength, 77 agility, 91 acceleration and 85 awareness. Not quite the beast we know he is, but will still be a monster.

Logan has 81 speed, 83 agility and 85 acceleleration. Fast for a QB still.

No tailbacks in our top 10 rankings, so that's still a mystery. Mark Leal is in our top 10 though at 88 OVR!!!

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Obvious solution: move Logan Thomas to RB.

Tried to download the demo to play durring lunch. It's not available yet. :(

Apparently Microsoft and EA are in disagreement over when it was supposed to be released.

Playstation 3 downloads usually go up around 6pm EST...not sure about 360 release times.

EDIT: Apparently, you weren't the only one...People Flip the Hell Out When the NCAA Football Demo Doesn't Show Up

Also....the author has pissed me off greatly...First it was fuckin' Mama Giraffe, now this!!

Evidently there were folks foregoing sleep or getting up early just to see 'Bama kick the hell out of VPI in Chick-fil-A's preseason showcase.

It's on XBL as of an hour ago.

damn, as of an hour ago I was heading back to work for the day.

I'm too stupid for this. How do I download on xbox live?

Go to the games tab, then demos, then new releases, and it should be first.

I did that, but the first demo (sorted by release date) was Resident Evil?

It's up on PS3. Downloading it right now.

After one game of the demo, the play seems much smoother than 2012. I didn't buy 2013 because of how bugged 2012 was (all the new features didn't work or were absolute crap). Seems like I'll be buying this year's version.

I got a similar feel, except I wasn't able to get the passing game working at all. 4/10 for 78 yards, 1 TD and one pick. And about 40 yards and the TD came on a PA post after a string of ten straight runs. Maybe it's just me, but I never had problems throwing in 12.

At least I was still able to #BEATBAMA, 14-13.

LT3: 10-11 172 Yds, 2 TDs, 1 Rushing TD Rating: 90
JC4: 7 carries 58 yards 1 TD
Gayle: 1 sack Rating: 93 and a Star
Tyler: numerous "knock the shit outta them" hits Rating: 89 I believe
Exum and Fuller: Breaking up passes as usual. Fuller is a 90 and a star. Exum is mid-upper 80's

Game seems pretty much the same as last year. The hits do look better, but not even to dish out another 60. I think the menu design looks like it was created for a 5 year old. Playbooks are all the same. Gayle looks fat, Miller looks like a balding 40 year old. I think I'll just stick to '13 and download the rosters online. Much better resemblances and stats. Definitely a fun demo to play though.
Final Score: 28-7 VPI

They didn't update the uniforms (old VT on everything), Gayle is bigger than Luther Maddy, Coleman is too tall, there's no Trey Edmunds, and Michael Holmes is returning punts. But it was still fun to #BEATBAMA 7 times this evening.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't update the uniforms They tend to miss details like that. They didn't put names on the backs of the white jerseys last year and the orange ones had numbers OVER the shoulder stripes.

Maybe I missed something along the way, but did our football team even update the uniforms in real life? I thought the jerseys from the spring game still had the old VT on them.

Check the pics from Andrew Brown's visit. All they changed was the VT on the collar.

Thanks for the help. I like the new look. I could understand ncaa 14 missing that, but I can't understand why there are still numbers over the stripes on our orange jerseys and why our facemasks are gray.

I played through on Heisman. TJ Yeldon was unstoppable & I lost 28-7. I had the most success with option runs. Once I get better at reading the DE's, I'll be able to BeatBama

@Fightin_Gobbler

Go Hokies

Go Falcons

I'm glad to see someone plays on Heisman.

The passing and running in this years game is amazeballs.

Mkkk

Do the teams have top 25 rankings on the demo?

Bama was #1 and we were unranked

I'm not buying it if we're not ranked. Ill just play '13 for another year.

I usually play on heisman, but forgot to switch it. Just played my first game on the demo. #BEATBAMA 24-10, LT was 5-10, 98 yards. 192 yards, 2 TDs on the ground over 10 carries, that read option was unstoppable, especially when running to the left side.

Serious question: Did they change anything from 2013?

Phillip

You have to be an xbox live gold member? What a load of elephant poo!

I know! I don't have internet worth buying gold for, but man do I want to #BEATBAMA

I usually maintain a comfortable 6:1 W-L ratio online as the Mighty Hokies; even against the best teams.

I started to get the hang of the read option out of the pistol (which is in the VT playbook now) and every time I made the right read for LT3 to keep the ball, it was a 20 yard run.

What's interesting is the playbook this year will reflect O'Cainspring's playbook from last year, not Lefty's. Yes that would be putting a lot of responsibility on the programmers to know all of the coaching changes and their respective systems, but its not like they are making monumental changes to the game each year.

I just like the fact that breaking tackles has gotten a little more realistic. Don't know how many Bama LBs I ran over with LT to pick up an extra 3-5 yards. The tough part is that the defense plays the option better now. Make the wrong pitch and you toss it into the arms of the defense. It's closer to reality though.

i heard this year NCAA 14 will have a new feature on the recruiting engine to hire a Godfather. Is this true?

@VTimHokie85

Hahaha. It would be nice if one of the things you could do for your team is upgrade the boosters. Or get a waterfall in the locker room.

Or maybe risk NCAA violations by trying to pay recruits or hiring recruiters.

If I made an NCAA sports game it would be 1/2 playing ball, 1/4 Leisure Suit Larry, and 1/4 Grand Theft Auto. Maybe even sprinkle in a little Fable.

You'd be able to gain experience points by going to class, and you'd gain street cred points by going to frat parties and beating up popped collars, although I'm not sure which one I'd use to make you play better on the field.

I can see a mini game of Mike London running around the locker room before each game with a whipping towel to level up on time-outs for the following game.
