More important part of that article besides the title snafu:

With Frank Beamer announcing that he will retire at season's end, there are -- or will be -- seven Power 5 openings.

Coaches and agents almost unanimously agreed last week that Virginia Tech is second behind only USC in that pecking order. Virginia Tech, Miami and South Carolina form the second tier, with VT getting the edge because it combines both Miami's winnable division (ACC Coastal) and South Carolina's fan support.

We are in strong position to get our first pick of candidate.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

In the spirit of realism, I'm fine being behind only USC. So who does the interweb say are the top candidates for the USC job? Well, SB Nation LINK has Justin Fuentes second from the bottom and USA Today LINK has him dead last. Safe to say, if you want Justin not to go to USC, then it doesn't look like they are interested in him. I keep seeing Chip Kelly.

SB Nation:
Fuente's stock is soaring, as he's turned Memphis from a perennial doormat into arguably the best team in Tennessee. The Tigers are 5-0 and scoring points by the bushel. The jump from a program like Memphis to USC might be a bit steep, though. USC has gotten its last two coaches from [the guys Pete Carroll didn't want in Seattle / the NFL], and Fuente doesn't fit that mold.

USA Today:
10. Justin Fuente

If USC was going to look at anyone without a long track record as a head coach, this would be the guy. His work at Memphis has been nothing short of miraculous, taking a program that was completely in the dumps and leading it to a 10-3 season in 2014 and a 5-0 start this year. He isn't a flashy guy, but the former TCU offensive coordinator is going to outcoach most people he faces. His offensive schemes are fun, and his track record of developing quarterbacks (Andy Dalton and Paxton Lynch) is impressive.

Though Memphis-to-USC is a monumental jump β€” maybe too big β€” it wouldn't be terribly different than Jim McElwain going from Colorado State to Florida. That has worked out pretty well.

UGA may have an opening and would probably be considered a better college university. History, prestige, weak SEC east, fertile recruiting ground, strong alumni/fan base.

Travis Haney, you are a disaster of a journalist. He's been an insider for ESPN college football coverage since 2012 and is a graduate of Tennessee.

hmmmmm

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

That title gave me heart burn.

I trust in Whit, he's gonna go out and get a great hire. Look at our facilities and the Recruits from VA, we can lure a top tier coach to VT. How bout those Hokies!

Pour some Beer on it

Hey...ESPN fixed the title

there we go

49-3

For those of you who don't know what this means, that was the score of the Arizona-Washington game, and yep, AZ got the 3 points. They aren't having a great season LINK. Personally, this is why I'm not the biggest fan of Rich Rod. He's ok, but he didnt do great at michigan, and had just one good year (and counting) at arizona. His 3 great years at WVU were a long time ago

Who is your guy?

Pretty much ANYONE but RR and Golden.

Well, once you do enough research to determine who you want, let us know so we can point his flaws out as well.

There are no perfect candidates.

RR just doesn't have "flaws" he has huge neon signs above him! DONT HIRE ME

Interview both Foster and Justin Fuente, see which one gives the better interview

Hire Fuente, retain Foster.

Dream scenario, right here.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I would bet that "writer" is from South Carolina or Georgia. Since I have been living down on that area, I have experienced about 1 in 4 local types that don't realize there are two different states.

In their defense VT/WV used to be the same state. So yeah there's that.

Constitutionally speaking, they still should be.

Scholars also question the constitutionality of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

But amendments are part of the Constitution, so they are always constitutional. The process with those three was certainly questionable, but they're certainly more important than the existence of West Virginia.

Not a scholar on the topic but if VA was a part of the confederate states at the time, why would the Constitution of the United States matter to a different country?

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Because the US accepted WV in as a state, which still considered the confederate states part of the USA.

And Article Four of the Constitution says

no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.

And Virginia never consented.

Interesting. A short article I read by the WV department of culture acknowledges WV was not created with all states in agreement.
When I retire, I'm going back to school and auditing classes. So much to learn

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Diverging here. But, as part of the reinstitution of the Union, the South had to agree to the post-civil war amendments. Thus, the Southern state legislatures didn't ratify in a political process as designated by Article V of the Constitution.

During the Civil war, the laws of the Constitution were challenged. In fact, a major basis of the war was the constitutionality of state secession. Thus, the lack of constitutionality in of the formation of WV is pretty much a signature of the time.

These changes were absolutely necessary, especially in hindsight. But, whether they were constitutional, probably not.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Vermont and West Virginia were never one state ;)

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

YOU GO TO HELL. YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE

This is what I have been saying all the time. All these doubters or VT haters just don't understand. We are not a rural as some make us out to be. VA has great talent. We have great facilities, and play in a weak division of a weak p5 conference. Then we have one of the best fan bases. To me its a no brainer.

Possible wild card...French maybe?

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

I'd take $120K if they wanted a film consultant.

No doubt you'd be an asset for them!

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Please say no to Rod......I'd rather it be Herman

"Who will replace Beamer at West Virginia?"

--------------

If you take this literally, it means "Who will replace Beamer as head coach of VT, and then win at West Virginia?"

My favorite espin messup related to us is still when they switched the Fords around last year.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Here's a crazy thought... Butch Jones. Was Whit's HC at Cincy. Its not a big stretch to say the least. Know nothing about salary. Its been three years, and given UT has not had a breakthrough season yet, could be ripe for the picking.

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

given UT has not had a breakthrough season yet, could be ripe for the picking.could be a total waste of time.

FTFY.

The hatred for him during the Battle of Bristol would be immeasurable

The Dude Abides

This is why I don't exactly fall all over myself to read Travis Haney's words.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.
